Level Up Your Date Nights: The Unexpected Perks of Arcade Fun!

Date nights are essential in any relationship. While traditional outings like dinner and a movie have their charm... for sure, why not add a twist and embrace the vibrant world of video game arcades? Here are some unexpected benefits that couples can enjoy by including an arcade visit to the mix to level up their date nights:

 Rekindle Childhood Joys

Stepping into an arcade can transport you back to simpler times, tapping into the pure joy and excitement of childhood. Sharing this nostalgic experience with your partner can create a unique bond, reminding you both of the fun and carefree moments that first brought you together. I know there is always someone in the room who will say that they've never been too an arcade or they've never played a game, but... there's nothing wrong with going out to enjoy quality time by way of a new experience!

 Friendly Competition

A little friendly competition can be incredibly invigorating for a relationship as well. Whether you're battling it out in... air hockey, playing pool, arcade basketball, racing against each other in a driving game, or teaming up to conquer a co-op mission, the playful rivalry adds a dynamic layer to your interaction, that may foster a... deeper connection.

 Stress Relief

Life's daily stresses can take a toll on even the strongest relationships at times. Arcades offer a fantastic (or... funtastic) way to blow off steam and unwind. The vibrant atmosphere, coupled with the physical and mental engagement of the games, provide a nice escape. Sometimes that's all you need to take the edge off, along with some serious laughter. If you're going out to have fun... (actually) have fun!

 Communication and Teamwork

Multiplayer arcade games increase their difficulty with every person who joins the action, requiring teamwork to succeed. Adding communication increases the chances getting further as well. Working together to solve puzzles, defeat virtual enemies, or achieve high scores can strengthen your partnership skills. It’s a fun and engaging way to improve your collaboration and understanding of each other... in some form by identify how you approach problems and solutions together in a fun way.

 Spontaneity and Adventure

Arcades bring an element of spontaneity and adventure to date night. The diverse range of games and activities ensures that there's something for everyone, making each visit a new and exciting experience. This sense of unpredictability can keep your relationship fresh and exciting. Maybe the winner chooses where you go for dinner or dessert! Winner winner... steak for dinner?

 Physical Activity

While not all arcade games are physically demanding, many do require movement and coordination. Dance games, interactive sports like arcade basketball, and virtual reality experiences can get you both moving and having a blast. It's a fun way to get active together without the formality of a gym. Nothing too crazy though... especially if the night is still young.

 Affordable Fun

Compared to some traditional date options, arcade visits are often more budget-friendly. This means you can enjoy a fantastic night out without breaking the bank. Plus, the emphasis on experiences rather than material things can lead to more meaningful memories. Which is why some of us loved gaming in the arcades and with others via couch co-op.

Here are some places worth considering in Orlando, Florida if you want to add some arcade fun to your date night if want a break from the parks:

Dezerland Park Orlando

Andretti Indoor Karting & Games

Top Golf also has an arcade, but... our focus is launching balls into space! By the way, they have a new limited-time Block Party game based on Marvel Studio's Captain America: Brave New World. It gives you multiple areas to score as your balls move from tile to tile. See: Topgolf deals to save!

I didn't forget about you, consider checking out some of your local video game arcades! Wouldn't hurt to incorporate a visit into your date nights every now and then based on the fun and other benefits. Plus you may come across other fun loving couples as well. Game on!

10 Activities to Enjoy while waiting for Disaster Relief + More!

Waiting for disaster relief can be stressful, but engaging in fun activities can help greatly pass the time and lift spirits. Here are ten activities to consider:

1. Storytelling and Sharing Experiences

Gather with others and share stories or experiences. This can be a great way to bond and support each other emotionally. Laugh as much as possible together, and express yourselves during this traumatic time so you can support eachother. You may also consider online therapy if you have phone service or internet connection after a natural disaster. Here are 8 of the best online therapy companies that therapists work through to provide online services as reviewed by Steven Gans, MD and mental health expert Katelynn Rigano.

2. Board Games and Card Games

If you have access to board games or a deck of cards, these can provide hours of entertainment and distraction. Portable gaming is certainly an option, but if you're limited on power... it may need to wait. Create a game, toss a ball in a basket from a distance if that's all you have and have teams so that you can have some fun competition!

3. Reading

Bring along books, magazines, or e-readers. Reading can be a great way to escape and relax.

4. Crafting or Gardening

Engage in simple crafts like drawing, painting, knitting, making friendship bracelets, or gardening. These activities can be calming and productive, especially with the results being cool creations and even food!

5. Listening to Music or Podcasts

If you have a charged device, listen to your favorite music or podcasts. This can be both entertaining and soothing. Also consider drum circles while grilling outside if you don't have music!

6. Exercise and Stretching

Do some light exercises solo as a group or stretching to keep your body active and reduce stress. Simple activities like walking, yoga, or even dancing can be beneficial.

7. Playing with Pets

If you have pets with you, spend time playing and caring for them. Pets can provide comfort and companionship.

8. Cooking or Baking

If you have access to a kitchen, try cooking or baking something simple. This can be a fun and rewarding activity.

9. Meditation and Deep Breathing

Practice meditation or deep breathing exercises to help manage stress and anxiety. There are many guided meditation apps available if you have a smartphone and the ability to charge it.

10. Organizing and Planning

Use the time to organize your belongings or plan for the future. This can give you a sense of control and purpose. Make a list of items you could have benefitted from today, like a pocket solar charger to charge your phone. My first one was given to me by Intel, it had various charger types to work with the older cellphones back in the day (before smart phones were a thing). It came in handy on more than a few occassions.

These activities can help make the waiting period more bearable and provide some much-needed relief from stress.

To go a bit deeper beyond the activities, it's awesome that people are donating to organizations... but I also love seeing more people beginning to work with friends, family, and other members of their community based on needs. It's a beautiful alternative to simply waiting for relief, but... take precautions in disaster areas!

Make or buy a supply bag with the right supplies. Medical supplies and surival tools is what we recommend with dry food rations. In my opinion, there isn't time to order these items online but you're welcome to try. It might be better to see what you can gather at the store if your city doesn't provide certain supplies.

Pay attention to the updates/instructions from the local & national authorities because... they may know something you don't know. It's easier to move with official clearance, but we understand when you have to do what you have to do.

Avoid floodwaters, driving through might not be a good idea because your vehicle might stall or become a boat or sink unexpectedly. Not everyone will have a life jacket or waterproof boots, so beware!

Before you stand step into a damaged home to possibly help a neighbor, you have to be cautious and make sure whatever hurt them won't hurt you. If the ceiling caved it, there's a risk that more might come down and you don't want it to come down on you. Try to inspect it to the best of your ability and if aid is on the way, don't make more work for them if it's too dangerous. I get it, but... beware and try to complete your objectives in the daytime.

Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning by using generators, natural gas, propane, charcoal end any other potentially dangerous product safely. Follow the instructions and make sure they're at least 20 feet away from your windows, doors, and vents. Play it safe!

Watch out for electrical hazards like downed power lines. And if flooding is in an area or a home, turn off the main breaker to avoid being electrocuted. Other hazards to avoid are contaminated water. Fill your tub ahead of a hurricane if you have one, and if you have empty bottles, fill them with water. Avoid using tap water until it has been declared safe, unless you know how to properly filter water. If you're running low on water, take this gift from the Water Quality Association. It's the "Water Treatment for Dummies: Second Edition" downloadable absolutely free! There is also an article from a member of the WQA on how to filter water.

Wear the proper clothing to help with the mosquitoes and other bugs, and if you don't want to use certain repellent, peppermint oil drives bugs and pests crazy. It's really strong and they hate it.

Don't go at it alone, work with others, and let your whereabouts be known just incase. Stay safe, take care, and... game on!

Hangout Spots For Gamers... in Orlando!

I was asked recently about hangout spots in Orlando that may appeal to gamers, so it's the perfect opportunity to recommend some and turn up the in-person interaction with fellow gamers.

One location that immediately comes to mind is... The Pinball Palace at Dezerland. This location has a lounge where you can kick it with friends and play various games on Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, retro consoles, and ofcourse... pinball + Pool! This lounge also has a bar with an assortment of drinks. Outside of couch co-op games, I'd probably go and play pinball or pool. https://pinballatdezerland.com/

Dezerland is near the corner of International Drive & Oak Ridge Road (It's directly across the street from McDonalds, and the word 'Dezerland' are in huge letters). *There is also full arcade just past the bowling area at Dezerland as well.

Dezerland Park Orlando
5250 International Dr, Orlando (FL) 32819

Player 1 Video Game Bar is similar to The Pinball Palace, but you have a lot more drinks + snack options, which some have a game theme to them.

Snacks are limited. The current options are Boneless Chocobo Tenders, Itsa-me, Mario! Mozzarella Sticks, and Raph's Pizza Pockets. These prices are reasonable for the snacks, especially when compared to the sodas, which are $6.00 per bottle (yikes). https://player1orlando.com/

Player 1 Video Game Bar
8562 Palm Pkwy, Orlando (FL) 32836

Gods & Monsters is a comic book shop that serves drinks in it's Fallout themed "Vault 5421" bar (featuring games like free Joystick arcade tables). It has all sorts of figurines, the atmosphere feels like the perfect after party location once Comic-Con comes to a close. Which is crazy because the Orlando Toy & Comic-Con is going on right now! I can't confirm if they have food or not (in the vault). https://godmonsters.com/

Quickly Boba N Snow isn't a place with video games, but... this Asian Fusion restaurant shows gamers, and anime fans a lot of love. Gamers will actually take their Nintendo Switch systems to this restaurant to chill, chat, game, and grub. You can really get your grub on here, and the prices are reasonable. Those Korean corn dogs are next on my list, we would get them here and there from a new place near by (Mochinut), but... you can basically get two for the price of one (because Quickly's Korean corndogs are $4 compared to $7.50). https://www.yelp.com/biz/quickly-boba-n-snow-orlando

While these are options you may be interested in checking out, there are other game/card related shops you can meet at if you don't plan to lounge. Also, you can go to a number of places and turn it into a hangout spot for gamers, because it all boils down to where a number of gamers choose to frequent. Seek places with a great option for lounging, good food at a reasonable price, and keep it respectful so that the owners appreciate the constant presence of gamers. They might even be gamers themselves.
