Discover the Enchanting World of ‘The Spirit & The Mouse’: A Perfect Adventure for Young Gamers

Discover the Heartwarming Adventure of “The Spirit and the Mouse

Embark on a Charming Adventure from a 2-member Indie Dev team!

“The Spirit and the Mouse” is a game that captures the essence of childhood adventure. While it’s perfect for younger audiences, adults can also enjoy its charm. With only mild language, it’s a family-friendly game that looks great and is packed with action.

A Tale of Unlikely Allies

After a shocking thunderstorm, Lila the mouse and Lumion the Spirit Guardian must join forces to restore balance to their quaint village. Lila, with her big heart and newfound electrifying powers, embarks on a journey across Sainte-et-Claire. Along the way, she befriends playful electric spirits called Kibblins to bring light back to the village.

Narrative-Focused Adventure

This narrative-driven adventure game encourages players to explore every corner of the world, complete objectives, and collect items to help those in need. Listen to the villagers’ woes and find the mischievous Kibblins causing electricity problems. By working together with these lively spirits, Lila can help Lumion return to the sky where he belongs.

Key Features

  • Explore Sainte-et-Claire: Discover the secrets of this charming French village from the perspective of a tiny mouse.
  • Electricity-Based Powers: Use Lila’s powers to traverse the world, solve puzzles, and bring the villagers’ stories to life.
  • Engaging Quests: Help local villagers by completing quests and playing mini-games to placate the Kibblins.
  • Unlock New Abilities: Collect energy and happiness to unlock new abilities throughout your adventure.

A Short but Sweet Experience

While the main story is about 4 hours long and takes around 6 hours to complete fully, the experience is well worth the $19.99 price tag. Despite its length, the game’s charming story and engaging gameplay make it a delightful adventure. So, if you get your hands on “The Spirit and the Mouse,” game on!

Dear Developers: Why Sony’s Concord... Didn’t Have to Fail!

In this installment of Dear Developer, I have to start by saying... Sony's Concord flop didn't have to occur.
You heard me right. (Yeah... I said it!)

This guy looks like the alien version of Nathan Drake mixed w/ Yondu!

Knowing When Enough is Enough

Developers must recognize when a particular concept has reached its saturation point at a particular time. With the abundance of PvP games on the market, how was Concord going to successfully compete? Instead, it could have been a single-player experience featuring a cast of memorable, badass characters on an unforgettable adventure. The concept was there as seen in the trailer, and this can still be salvaged and flipped because the structure is still there. For $400,000,000... I would sure as heck try to flip it.

Missed Opportunities

Imagine the blockbuster single-player title with a compelling storyline that this could have been. It’s disheartening to see so much investment go down the drain when this could have been a viable alternative. While I’m being vague (unless Sony pays for more details), it’s clear that a different approach could have yielded better results. Again, it doesn't have to be over (but make it download only).

Balancing online and Single-Player Elements

There could have been an aspect of the game that allowed for competitive online play, but... a full-blown PvP game in today’s saturated market, especially with numerous solid free-to-play options, was a risky move. I would have been surprised if it succeeded. I wouldn't even add PvP personally, competition would be served up in a different way.

A Different Perspective

This isn’t coming from the angle of a hater. $400,000,000 is a lot (like aloooooottttt) of freaking money to lose. The reaction from gamers might have been different if I had been involved in the decision-making process regarding the genre and direction of the game though and I highly doubt they'd be sitting in discount bins for $1. I can say that with a straight face. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can make all the difference.

Overall, Sony’s Concord game had potential, but a different approach might have led to a more successful outcome. The assets can and should be whipped up to make single player magic, everything doesn't have to be multiplayer and this didn't have to be a... PvP hero shooter. It's okay to salvage or give it away.

Over Horizon X Steel Empire Bundle + Watch & Nab!

Shout out to the team over at ININ Games for supplying copies of this game bundle, my opinions are my own.

This Over Horizon X Steel Empire bundle is a blast from the past, serving up 1991's Over Horizon, 1992's Steel Empire, as well as 2004's Steel Empire.

In Over Horizon, you take off in your spaceship traversing through a number of bizarre worlds. With three different weapons which you can upgrade and combine, you will face a variety of bosses and enemies that will come your way.

I like the fact that you can edit your attack layout as far as where you place your secondary... gunners on the screen. What I wasn't crazy about was trying to move the ship around with the Switch analog stick in this game. I don't know what it is, but I wasn't crazy about the movement when it comes to this Over Horizon. Once you get the hang of it, it's not bad, but... Steel Empire is more so my cup of tea.

In Steel Empire you strap into the cockpit of a Striker Airplane or a Zeppelin to take on the Motorhead Empire, and to me it feels a bit more refined. It's understandable because the games came out later than Over Horizon. The movement is a lot smoother, the animations are better and you don't explode as soon as you're hit once (which varies by game). I did notice some lag issues, which is interesting and I will reach out to the dev team about that), and while I ran into a situation where I lost control of the ship... I blame it on the JoyCon connection (for now). Once I snapped the JoyCon back in... I was able to get back into the action, but I'll run this by the dev team also.

Similar to Over Horizon you also get secondary ships to assist you in battle based on the power ups you get. I love the arcade feel of this game, and the ability to break enemies down in segments. Not only do I appreciate the ININ Games team for sending over a code, but they also wanted to show some love to our audience by providing an additional code for an episode of... SDGT's Watch & Nab!

So... with that said, check out some gameplay (the video features Little Bear & ClemiPie) and if you're the first one to nab the game code, you will get a copy of this bundle for free!

Overall, no matter which title in the bundle you prefer more, they're both served up in this high flying bundle for... $14.99! I think you will enjoy it, and... it makes me wonder if ININ Games will consider developing a new Steel Empire title in the near future. Anyway, enjoy and... game on!
