Disney's Peter Pan & Wendy... Reviewed + Neverland Experience in Orlando!

I have fond memories of Peter Pan and the Hook film. When I initially saw this film advertised on Disney+, I was apprehensive about even watching it but... I decided to shower in the old fairy dust and dive in.

Story: This film starts off as some of you would expect... by introducing Michael, John, and Wendy in their home just before bedtime. Michael and John are sword fighting in their iconic pajamas when Wendy came on the scene leaving her parent's room to enter the stairwell. Wendy Darling is the leading actress played by Ever Anderson, who looks like she could literally be the daughter of... Milla Jovovich.

Fun Fact: After doing some digging, I found out that she is the daughter of Milla Jovovich.

Anyway, the kids make their way to the room... and I thought Wendy was going to put her head in her pillow and cry or something (but she switched gears), but she grabbed a toy sword and joined in on the action. It was all fun and games until something happened that got their father's attention, and he wasn't happy. He sent her on a guilt trip about her behavior and referenced it being her last night at home (she was being sent off to boarding school).

Her mom also jumped in on it, but she had more of a soft-handed approach. Nevertheless, they set the tone regarding Wendy moving forward with expectations of being a mature example for her siblings as she makes her way into womanhood.

These exchanges between Wendy and her parents brought something to mind. I look at so many adults who almost seem to assume that not only do they have to leave their childhood behind, but also joy in general. I know I'm not the only one that's seen such a thing. It's sad, and I'm not saying that we have to be childish, but some people forget what it's like to almost smile or even laugh.

I think that's one of the reasons I get a kick out of showing people funny pranks or hitting them with left-field twists in my jokes just to catch them off guard. It's great to see people smile or erupt in uncontrollable laughter. Doesn't make sense to be miserable just because we've entered adulthood. There's no age limit on Joy! The writer's had similar in mind because the film is based on that in part, outside of showing Peter Pan that he needs... others (i'll leave that there).

I don't know why, but Jude Law really didn't deliver as well as he could have as Captain Hook (in my opinion). (No shade) He just felt like someone casted for the part and acted it out to the best of his ability, but... he really didn't embody Captain Hook (the way Jim Gaffigan did with Smee). He tried, but... I don't know, it felt like he wanted to be serious but... I couldn't take him seriously and I didn't know where to really place him regarding his personality until later in the film.

I could place Dustin Hoffman in... Hook, he was charismatically sinister (and will probably hold the crown for the best portrayal of Captain Hook for quite some time). It's not fair to compare, but... I just couldn't get into Jude's particular rendition as much. He had his moments (skull island, on the ship, and during another serious scene that took place in the middle somewhere) that felt like he made the role of Hook his own, but... he didn't embrace that in full. When you see it, either you will know what i'm talking about... or you'll hopefully enjoy the character twice as much as I did.

Now on to Peter Pan, played by Alexander Molony. I didn't really know what to make of him at times, he gave off a tight-lipped vibe to me. He did a pretty good job in the role, but... when I think of Peter Pan... I think of a joyful character who was. He was... sometimes, but I walked away with him having a tight-lipped vibe. To be fair, I can't just overlook the script because almost as soon as Team Darling entered Neverland, all hell broke loose... so I didn't get to see Peter's joyous side as much as I would've liked. He likes adventure, so where are the smiles and joy in terms of adventure? Y'know? I saw glimpses.

Going back to... Hook, the lost boys were a bit more memorable. In Peter Pan and Wendy, they were kind of just there to a degree. They played their part when the writers remembered to utilize them, but there wasn't much in the way of charm (for me)... even though I believe they tried. You could certainly see pockets of it, but in other instances, they were more like extras.

Fun Fact: I think it was awesome that one of the actors cast in the film as one of the lost boys was an actor with Down syndrome. Not because he has Down syndrome, but because the actor was given the opportunity regardless of his Down syndrome. Slightly, was played by Noah Matthews Matofsky.

Overall, it's a decent film with pockets of enjoyment, and I like the connection between Peter and James... that gets a thumbs up. There were a few things that I wish were done differently for the sake of effect and action, even if it meant extending the film to let the lost boys and pirates shine a bit to showcase their quirks in battle (a bit more... because I liked the comical interactions). That would've been cool, but either way... I don't mind the ending, that was joyous.

I won't give it away, but you can see that Peter Pan chose... joy and I think that if more of us did, the world would be a better place.

Last but not least, Tinker Bell (played by Yara Shahidi), definitely played her part... but like other members of the cast... she wasn't memorable for me. The only lines that she had were at the end. She was there, the parts she played were critical, and they absolutely needed her to pull off a number of things including flight... but she went right back to the background. The leads are the leads so that's why I wasn't trippin' about the supporting cast as much it would almost be fair to call this movie... Wendy.

Visuals: When it comes to visuals, this was a beautiful film... even if CGI looked a little interesting at times (but it was easy to look past). Special effects were amazing when they were showcased, but... scenes and angles were stunning throughout (with or without them).

I'd have to say that my favorite scenes include Michael reaching for his teddy in mid-air in slow motion (that was awesome), skull rock when the croc came out to play, and the battle on Captain Hook's ship that threw everyone for a... loop.

I'll give the best scene to the ship battle, the best special effects scene to the clock tower, and the truest Peter Pan-style scene to Skull Rock (it was badass).

Audio: I used the 1More Aero Bluetooth 3D Earbuds to experience this film, which made the experience even better regarding the audio. The sound effects were utilized well... to the point that I was looking around the studio based on sounds coming from differing angles. One of the lost boys swung in on a swing and you can hear the stretching of the vine incoming from the back right side and coming to the front right side.

I think it would've been awesome to have the 3D sound effects throughout, but I didn't mind at least having them tucked in here and there. The audio was served up in 5.1 surround sound.

Price: Price-wise, you can enjoy Peter Pan & Wendy for no additional cost beyond your Disney+ membership. So... instead of the price of one film, you get a month of Disney+ & Hulu for $9.99/Month.

Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal: The Complete Second Season... Reviewed!

Shout out to Warner Bros for supplying a copy of the show for review. My opinions are my own.

The prehistoric duo is back in action as Spear & Fang set sail on a new adventure in season 2, but does it hold up to what made season 1 great? Let's find out!

Visuals: I'm starting off with the art this time around because the visuals were even better in season 2. I loved when they were asleep on the raft and the moon came up. Them sailing on the raft was definitely a new frontier as they saw whales for the first time. Newcomers may wonder where the words are, but you get it.... they didn't know what to think of the sea creatures and you can see the look of concern based on their fear of the unknown.

I have to give props to the artists because they knew how to showcase the emotion well. I loved seeing the huge colorful jellyfish in this initial episode and I'd love a lithograph of that scene. They should definitely consider creating such things for collector's editions, like a great scene from each season (wink wink). This would make for one great-looking video game with amazing animation.

Story: Anyway, all is calm for the most part in this first episode until the prey came out to play. This included a freaking megalodon... and at this point, in true Primal fashion, you know it was... about to go... down.

Trust and believe episode 1 doesn't disappoint, and definitely usher's you into an amazing and somewhat mythological season with a left-field entry.

The duo gets separated at some point and it places them in a very interesting situation where they were on two opposing sides, you'll have to check that out. I think the way the overall situation played out was quite interesting, and regardless of the lack of words you can find in this show... one thing I appreciate is the ability they have to say certain things without saying anything at all.

You can expect completely new experiences for sure that take things in a not-so-prehistoric direction, but based on where things left off in season 1... when Mira was captured, I was curious about what I'd see.

Episode 5... is interesting. It's a change of pace... filler to show the primitive side of the modern man in colonial times, but I probably would've tucked that in as some sort of extra so that wouldn't eat up an episode. It is what it is I suppose, because episode 6 got us back on track with a battle that was bound to happen based on what occurred in episode 4. By the way, I like the way episode 4 wrapped up because it made the antagonist think twice about their treacherous ways. I won't reveal what you will see in episode 6, but if you were paying attention in earlier episodes... you will pretty much assume what the deal was. I put it together when Fang was sleeping in the cave.

Episode 7 might piss you off a bit if you aren't paying attention... because it isn't in Spear & Fang fashion at all, but there's a reason for it. The justification will be revealed twice in this episode, and greater understanding will emerge in part 2 of The Colossaeus, as Mythology emerges with revenge in mind.

The pace of season 2 was pretty good aside from the last episode, but when you see it, it will be justifiable after the final boss battle. Things got a little weird towards the end but I won't drop any spoilers, just keep in mind that the dwelling was wide open and Spear was in a situation. I'm curious as to what season 3 is going to look like based on how season 2 ended. Good stuff.

Overall, season 2 is amazing and showcases why Primal is an Emmy Award Winner. Just be warned, this isn't for children and contains uncensored content better reserved for ages 17+.

Audio: When it comes to the audio, you will certainly enjoy the suspense delivered via the music and sound effects. You get quite a bit of tribal-like music, along with some variety when facing one of the more dangerous antagonists this season. Season 2 also features DTS-HD Master Audio English 5.1.

Price + Extras: Price-wise, you can get Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal: The Complete Second Season for $29.98 on Blu-ray & $24.98 on DVD. I think the sweet spot would be $5 less in my opinion, but... luckily you can get it for the price I feel is much more fitting... here.

Season 2 has a runtime of 222 Mins and includes a bonus feature: Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal: Inside the Evolution.

Update Your Game Library: Don't let genre burnout get you down!

If you're feeling burned out on your usual genres, why not try something new? There are plenty of amazing games out there, across all genres, that you might be missing out on.

Trying a new genre can open up a whole new world of gaming for you, and who knows... you might just find your new favorite game. So don't be afraid to branch out, and explore all that the world of gaming has to offer!

It's no secret that some gamers are more genre-loyal than others. In fact, many gamers only stick to one genre, and within that genre... they only play certain IPs. No hybrid genre action for these guys!

We've talked to well over 1000 gamers this year so far, and one guy told me recently that he gets bored playing Call of Duty pretty quickly now. I pointed out that there are other games out there, and he says, "Yeah, but what else is there? Like... that's where everyone is". I tried to hold it in, but I was like:

There are plenty of popular games out there that get a lot of love within the same genre (and across genres). I got him though because I presented him with a list of IPs (similar to what you see below) which he acknowledged he was aware of, but... he hasn't played one of them.

It's nothing you have to do, but knowing other games are out there only to deny yourself the pleasure of enjoying them because you (yourself, and the person being reflected in the mirror) choose to only stick to one genre or one IP is a... personal decision. You can see it on the faces of some people that they truly miss a controller being in their hands, so why not fun it up? We can never get any of this time back, so you might as well enjoy as much of it as possible.

Switching things up is the perfect solution to a gamer's funk regarding... genre burnout. Instead of playing the same games over and over again, try out something new to get a break.

Buy the AAA game you love (no shade), but add a AA game to the mix, show indie developers some love by adding an interesting game to your library from that side as well, and show a free-to-play game some love.

Free-to-play games don't require money out of the gate (and they're available on console too), but if you like the game, buy something to keep the free-to-play party going.

I can't just leave you with the list above, here are some of the latest games:

Galactic Empire: Special Edition... Reviewed!

As a music lover, I was thrilled to get the chance to review the Galactic Empire's Special Edition album. And as a huge fan of both Star Wars and metal, I was doubly excited for this strum-fest.

From the very first track, a rocker's remix of the 20th Century Fox Fanfare, I was excited. The opening guitar riff instantly transported me to a galaxy far, far away. And the pounding drums throughout the album kept my head banging the whole way through.

While I would have loved to have heard some vocals on the album, I think the overall presentation is still respectable and fitting for each theme. This is my first time listening to Galactic Empire, they're actually a heavy metal instrumental Star Wars cosplay band. How badass is that?

Star Wars and Revenge of the Sith could have easily been two separate tracks, but the way they flow from one to the next makes for one kickass 7-minute experience. This is the longest track at 7:30.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was my favorite track, it made me want to grab a lightsaber and attempt to reenact a battle. The Battle of Hoth was a close second – an energetic and exciting track that will definitely get your heart pumping in the gym or wake you up to finish your (school) work.

I listened to the Special Edition album using the iFi Audio GO link in conjunction with the Philips Audio 9500 HiFi Headphones.

The thumps of the drums made my ears dance, but it wouldn't be the same without the guitars driving the sound. For what it's worth, I'd give this album a 4.75 out of 5. They tried to deliver variety, and there is with the different themes, but I did find myself checking certain tracks to see if the playlist looped over.

Price-wise, I think $9.49 totally works for MP3. You can also get it on CD for $11.98, and Vinyl is $23.99. *Streaming options are also available.

Overall, this album is worth a listen for any Star Wars fan. It will make its official arrival to earth on May 5, 2023, and they're ready to take over your eardrums.
