LightSup! Hands-On Preview – Chaotic Co-Op Action, Chibi Charm, and Family Game Night Energy

There’s something immediately charming about LightSup! that grabs your attention before the chaos even begins. Between its colorful presentation, energetic pacing, and... fun chibi-inspired character designs, this upcoming roguelike action title already feels tailor-made for multiplayer game nights vs single player sessions like mine. The art style strikes a perfect balance between approachable and expressive, giving the game a playful personality... that makes every frantic moment feel even more entertaining.

But don’t let the cute visuals fool you (at all)—LightSup! can quickly become a wildly challenging experience. From my time with the game, it’s easy to imagine just how intense the four-player action could get once everyone is scrambling to the Alter of Light. On that note... let's play!

Tip: Don't forget that you have the ability to pick the Alter of Light up and move it where it's needed most.

You'll certainly need it... because one moment you're pushing through enemies with confidence, and the next... chaos erupts around the battlefield.

Fight, pray, recover teammates, pray some more, defeat enemies, and somehow continue progressing a step further (via Quests) in the adventure. Choose wisely when it comes to your Mysterious Blessings as well, because you may need one card over another that you really want. The good thing is... there's always next time.

Co-Op Ready: From the Couch and Beyond!

The couch co-op support especially stands out here. In an era where local multiplayer experiences sometimes feel overlooked, LightSup! embraces the kind of pick-up-and-play teamwork that can instantly turn a regular evening into a full-on gaming session with family and/or friends. Honestly, this has “Family Fun Gaming” written all over it. At the time of the preview, there are 4 characters to choose from with 5 additional characters to unlock:

As you see there are noticeable differences in the character stats, and especially their trats. I probably would've give Tim the Fear Effects +20% but... that's just me (seems more fitting). I appreciate the unlockable characters that further add to the replay value, and seeing the locked icons definitely motivates you to find out more.

You can upgrade the various Stats via the Mastery... as long as you meet the requirements. Survivability being one of them that increases your Max HP. Upgrading this Mastery from Lv.0 to Lv.1 bumps up your Max HP +75... so even if you're getting your can kicked initially, it gets better.

These aren't the only things that aid you in your quests, Father Q's Gardens provide helpful bonuses. You can trade for goods, weapons upgrades, strength restoration and more!

No Complaints... Just A Feature Request

As for gameplay feedback, there honestly isn’t much I would change based on my early impressions... I love the roguelike arcade feel of LightSup! along with the depth. One feature I would personally love to see added, however, is the option to attack using the R2 trigger while aiming with the right analog stick—particularly if those inputs are currently unused. The existing control scheme works perfectly fine as is, but having that alternative option could make movement and combat feel even smoother for players who enjoy a more fluid “twinstick” style of play. It wouldn’t need to replace the current controls at all—just offering the option could raise the skill ceiling and make the action feel even more dynamic for advanced players.

LightSup! is currently planned for a 2026 release, though a specific launch date has not yet been announced, so fans will want to stay tuned for future updates. Shoutouts go to Red Dunes Games and BugBlio Studio for bringing this promising co-op adventure to life and it's great that the team is nearing the... finish line. LightSup! will be released on PC/Steam, PS5, Xbox X|S + NS2!

Family Game Night with G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra

Why This Game Works for Families

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is built around local and online co-op for up to four players, making it a perfect centerpiece for Family Game Night. Parents and kids can sit side by side, pick their favorite Joes like Duke, Scarlett, Roadblock, or Snake Eyes, and take on Cobra’s forces together.

Unlike single-player titles, this game thrives on shared experiences. Every punch, kick, and combo feels more rewarding when you’re coordinating with family members, laughing at chaotic moments, and celebrating victories as a team. There is also no blood and gore, so parents can breathe easy.

Benefits of Multiplayer Teamwork for Children

Games like Wrath of Cobra aren’t just fun — they’re teaching tools in disguise (in my opinion). When kids play in multiplayer mode, they have the ability to learn:

Collaboration: Success depends on working together, not just button-mashing.

Communication: Players must call out strategies, warn about enemies, and share power-ups.

Problem-solving: Boss fights require adapting tactics, teaching resilience and creative thinking.

Patience and empathy: Younger players often need guidance, giving older siblings or parents a chance to mentor.

These lessons translate beyond the screen, reinforcing teamwork skills that children can use in school projects, sports, and everyday life.

Why Higher Difficulty Makes Victories Sweeter

When the difficulty setting is raised for four-player action, the game doesn’t just throw more enemies at you — it forces tighter coordination.

More enemies on screen means players must divide responsibilities (one handles crowd control, another targets bosses).

Stronger foes demand combo timing and resource sharing.

Increased chaos pushes players to rely on each other more than ever.

That’s why the reward feels sweeter: overcoming tougher odds together creates a sense of accomplishment that’s bigger than any solo victory. It’s the difference between winning alone and celebrating as a team.

 Unlockables and Replay Value

The fun doesn’t stop after one playthrough. Wrath of Cobra includes:

Unlockable characters beyond the starting roster, giving players fresh options and strategies.

Additional modes that boost difficulty even further, ensuring the game stays challenging for seasoned players.

Adding an additional title to the mix ensures that Family Game Night won’t get stale — there’s always something new to discover. Go Joe!

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is more than a nostalgic throwback; it’s a family-friendly co-op adventure that teaches teamwork, communication, and resilience while delivering pure arcade fun. Whether you’re unlocking new heroes, cranking up the difficulty, or just enjoying the chaos of four-player battles, this game adds to the quality time. G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Up!

Big Helmet Heroes: The Cartoon Hack & Slash Game... that may become a Family Favorite!

Looking for a fast-paced action game with the ability to deliver big laughs, bold battles, and doesn’t break the bank? Big Helmet Heroes might be a great addition to your collection... and the best part? It’s fun for all ages! This feels like a first party PlayStation exclusive to me, check it out:

This colorful hack-and-slash game blends hilarious cartoon visualscustomizable armor, and satisfying combat into a package that’s both entertaining and family-friendly. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer able to string combos like an EVO vet... or just want something lightly sprinkled to enjoy with the family, Big Helmet Heroes has enough... oomph for everyone + the sound effects & background music are beautifully blended with the visuals to make this awesome sauce!

Why I think this could become a family favorite, is a feature the game doesn't even have yet! (You heard me right, but...) If the Devs are able to resolve the performance issues with 4-player co-op... Big Helmet Heroes will be perfect for family fun night! It's one of those highly entertaining games that can set a Friday night off right alongside a really good pizza, your favorite drinks + a fun movie! Everything feels like it should be a 4-player co-op too, so... I think it's just a matter of time. You get to choose from 4 distict combat styles with heroes like... The Warrior, Brute, The Rogue, and... The Monk. Their different combat styles are a perfect co-op combo to take on the challenges ahead when 4-player action is finally implemented, plus look at the amount of space + the placement of the player HUD on the screen was evidence enough that you can place three more with ease.

I believe it would add to the longevity of the game's support to add 4-player co-op, and if they serve up DLC adventures (which they may simply turn in the direction of sequels instead)... it would keep the party going. Big Helmet Heroes has the potential to be a franchise in my opinion, that could also serve as a gem of fun for game nights. By the way, I will present this article to the Devs to help fuel their multiplayer motivation.

By the way, if you want the full package... the Exalted Edition is only a few bucks more. Meaning, you get:

Big Helmet Heroes (same version as the basic edition)

+ Big Helmet heroes - Artbook

+ Big Helmet Heroes - Soundtrack

Grab Big Helmet Heroes while its 20% off and you'll get it for $19.99 or $23.99 for the Exalted Edition. So strap on your helm, grab your favorite game controller a + 1... and game on!
