Zelda Triforce Heroes… reviewed!

Pretty good game that could use more… pretty good players.

The Toon Link world is sweet, and the 3D view is solid and clean (though I'd expect no less of Nintendo... while appreciating the results of this Co-Developed project. I hope they do more of them and may they not be centered around working with JP developers for the most part.)

Zelda Triforce Heroes looks nearly as good in 2D as it does 3D (but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy some of the visual in 3D a lot more). Filling the shoes of… Toon Link and now Toon Linkle, you make your way into the Drablands… in style, in the name of fashion (I kid you not).
I say style, because suiting up is a big part of the adventure, allowing you to take advantage of each suit’s… ability. Suits don’t substitute one’s ability to play the game though… and unfortunately I wish it did in some cases. Why? Well… since there isn’t exactly a practice area, you may find yourself encountering quite a few unknown heroes who need a bit more experience or at least lack an interest in playing with progression in mind.
Luckily you have various options of playing this game, whether it is with unknown heroes, friends, or with… dolls (yes dolls). I will get back to the dolls in a second, but… I want to speak about these multiplayer options quickly.
I like the multiplayer options of this game… and you aren’t just stuck with playing offline or online, or even with people who have the game… you have the option of download play as well. Thumbs up to Nintendo on giving gamers the option of adapting to the situation of multiplayer, because not everyone has someone locally to play with, and not everyone has internet.

Multiplayer Options are as follows:

Local Play – Create or Join a team.

Download Play – Create or Join a team.

Online – Play with Unknown heroes or Friends.
So you aren’t out of luck if friends have a 3DS (or 2DS) and you want to kick back locally chomping on some good eats while slashing your way through the Drablands with one copy of the game (or even during a long commute)… so game on!
On the single player side… the dolls are optional team mates when you desire to play by yourself, and the challenge is increased because you will literally have to control each doll as well as yourself separately (unless you totem it up). To be successful with the dolls, you will have to get adjusted to bouncing Link’s soul between his body and the dolls, and Nintendo knows it isn’t a walk in the park because they give you the option to skip areas of a level if needed.
Levels are segmented in this game into areas sending you from start to Triforce teleportation station… and then on to the next with various puzzle/skill challenges in between. The elements add to the challenges in a number of Drabland areas, so expect… to experience some hot areas, cool areas, etcetera.
This game comes alive for me when you have a great team in a heated battle. One of my favorite moments thus far (without spoiling it) involves… a battle of the bombs.
Beyond the Drablands, the little Kingdom is… nifty, with little things that occur as you progress. I would’ve liked to see more in the area, but for now what they have does the job with buildings that serve various purposes. Outside of the castle, you have the shops… like the ever stylish Madame Couture’s boutique where you go with items you obtain from the Drablands, and enough gems to cover the cost and the creation of your costumes. You also have the daily prizes in the shop just in front of the boutique that literally reminds me of many mobile games that have daily prizes… in the name of keeping the players on repeat. It’s a pretty good incentive, while the photo shop to me… doesn’t really gain my interest. For fans of Miiverse and sharing gameplay images though… this is the place to be when you want to share/show off your adventures in the Drablands.
There are cons in this game… and they primarily center on fellow gamers who don’t go online with the intent to play. Yes, bad gamers have also managed to slither their way onto this game also, doing things like picking up team mates and intentionally throwing them off of cliffs or trying to stifle gameplay. There are also the players that manage to sign online to play, and then they just… stand there (perhaps inspired by the dolls), while others really want to play online but their bad internet connection makes it a LAGtastic experience. I also… most absolutely cannot forget about the players that sign online to play, their area isn’t chosen, and then they leave (talk about annoying).
Another con in some ways is… the dolls, because the single player experience could’ve been a bit different. It’s not a mode that I find myself venturing in that often, but another con results in me utilizing it here and there.
The next con (again) really isn’t a big con, but when you want to complete all the areas of a Drabland’s location… sometimes it boils down to you being lucky enough to have your selected area chosen via a roulette system when the decision isn’t unanimous. No doubt playing with friend’s locally will allow for an easier choice on the preferred area… but also playing locally gives way to the potential of even greater strategy (through your conversion with each other).
I have to bring up the plus of… local “conversation” because the in game emoticons do a good job, but they still can’t replace basic communication when you need to explain something. That’s why fans of the game may be able to appreciate the Friday “Drama’N’Drablands” posts.

Overall, this is a great handheld game that can be enjoyed by both hardcore and casual gamers that are fans of Zelda games. It will challenge some casual gamers a bit more than the games usually considered… casual, but you're able to get in and play a section of an area in a short period of time. If you happen to add this game to your collection, you will be able to enjoy the replay value as well as the fun factor. Trust me, with the various areas you have to access individually... replay value has no choice but to be there if you want to move forward, and even going back to play some of the previous areas can happen so that you get your hands on treasure that you may have missed... not to mention the Drabland Challenges!
(For the record) The audio gets a thumb up also… especially with headphones, and price wise it works… though a sweeter price would’ve been $24.99. Anyway, my 3DS is calling my name (though not really or else I'd be freaked out, but... you know what I mean), game on!

Fun factor: 5

Replay value: 5

I don't like looking at content like... meh, so I just remind myself of different strokes for different folks. Nintendo should figure out various creative ways to bring more content to the platforms by actually considering things like introducing developers... to fellow developers that may result in cooperative titles (that don't have to be published by Nintendo but it could result in additional games) on Nintendo platforms.

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Have you ever wanted to be a Pokémon in a world inhabited by nothing but other Pokémon? That’s the premise behind the fun new Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon game, now available for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. After choosing to play as one of 20 fan-favorite Pokémon, including Pikachu and Riolu, you embark on a journey to discover a mysterious force that is turning Legendary Pokémon into stone. In addition to being able to play as a Pokémon, the game features all 720 known Pokémon from every game in the series, including Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. As you journey through the game, you will enter a series of Mystery Dungeons with randomly generated interiors – meaning you will never play through the same dungeon twice! With the game’s near-infinite replay value, a new adventure awaits you around every corner.
Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon is one of the most exciting and transformational entries in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Whether for yourself or the Pokémon fans in your life, the game is a great gift idea this holiday season.”
Traveling through a series of mysterious and twisting dungeons might sound like a dangerous task, but no need to fear: In the game, you can befriend different Pokémon and have them join you on your quests. You can also collect items to equip and use while fighting enemies in engaging turn-based battles. During these battles, strategy is key, so you’ll want to make sure to bring along the right type of Pokémon when you enter each Mystery Dungeon.
With the new Connection Orb – a giant galaxy-like map that connects you with other Pokémon and gives you new quests to complete – you’ll befriend Pokémon and conquer dungeons in no time at all. You’ll even get to battle alongside Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, and combine the moves of your team to unleash attacks that will knock out even the mightiest Pokémon foe.
For a limited time, when you purchase Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon in stores, in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS or at Nintendo.com at a suggested retail price of $39.99, you will also receive a free theme inspired by the game for your Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu. Purchasers will receive a download code for the free theme until Dec. 6. (The code expires on Oct. 20, 2016.)

SPACEBASE DF-9... reviewed!

http://amzn.to/1SyHPLd

A game with great potential that suffers from (hmmm)… asphyxiation.
Ever play a game that has the potential to be a really good one, yet finds itself tripping over those annoying… WTF’s?! That’s exactly what this game does for me.

The trailer shows a pretty good space sim experience, but it’s like pulling digital teeth at times to get any of your crew members to comply with their roles (if they comply at all). The willingness of the behaviors should be more instant if they’re happy to comply... and sluggish the more they aren't. Simply pile the tasks (or something) and allow them to be cancelled for each member's set tasks, or have the tasks cancel each other out if we need them to do one thing immediately… or swap the tasks around (drag’n’drop action).

SpaceBase DF-9 reminds me of the Sims… in space (kinda sorta, with less personality and different frustrations). Nevertheless, the potential experience is what makes me continue to play the game in hopes that I can reach the makings of a great base. It’s not a game I play back to back… but with improvements, it could honestly be a great game and I see that regardless of the frustrations.
The type of experience it offers (that shouldn’t have other things in the way) are… crew roles that allow the base to grow based on their individual roles and interests. You aren’t just skating through from one progression to the next either, you have to build, run, and protect your base. I find it very interesting, and that should be the thing that’s able to shine… greatly.
A major plus (for me) in this game is figuring out how you’re going to take on raiders that invade your base. I just wish that members of your base complied in the way they should… and if it were my decision, I’d want a manual option that allowed me to move the members where I wanted them to go. I would list my reasons why, but… Double Fine doesn’t pay me to make their games for them.
What you see in the trailer is not as easy as just placing things, and I get that. Dealing with the elements and… raiders is fine BUT (and that’s a big but) things have to be a bit smoother than the tug of war compliance with commands. Get it done instead of standing around or “wandering around” as the game puts it… or running around in a panic because the member is concerned about the level of oxygen when the place... has… oxygen.
One thing I’d do regarding the game is… do something about the frigging walls that block the outer view of your space base. That should be easy… and the front walls could either be a low cut or an extremely low opacity wall. In sims… we have to be able to count out the amount of blocks needed for our next build, and if you can’t see the amount of space available… it’s a bit difficult to do that. It's doesn't stop you from building, but with building being the name of the game, don't block it out.
The fun factor is there, but the frustration factor is greater. I'll... leave it at that.
Visually, I think the game looks great in the 2D top side view, and the art style is cool (long live 2D art).

Replay value is there also, even if it’s something that initially sends you back to the drawing board, again… and again (and… you get the picture). The true replay value can be experience once you get a stable base that covers the needs of your members, and give it a try to see if you can obtain that… if this game interests you. I do suggest to the developers that they should at least see what they can do to ensure that it’s a game that is given a chance without the unnecessary getting in the way. A good update that gets it to where it needs to be, will turn those mostly negative steam reviews (as of 11.17.2015) around, because then the challenge would be the welcomed sim challenges and not challenges regarding characters ignoring what they were told. Speaking of going back to the drawing board, I don't want to downplay that (for what its worth), because if your decisions send you back... you have the option to go back and game... game... again until you get it right.

The game is $9.99 on Steam, and that’s not a bad price (at all)… but I still need a game to feel stable (to allow for a well-rounded experience).

Zelda action: It's Friday... and we're switching things up! (Slowly but surely anyway.)

It's Friday... and it's been awhile, but we've been busy (I even had a close call with the purchase of a clunker of an SUV... but I wasn't spending a dime above free on that one). :p

Anyway..., things are still busy but news and reviews will pick up. We are actually working on switching things up little by little... getting Nintendo-Demand over to SDGT Ent fully.
Broken record time: The reason the switch began in the 1st place is... (hmmm..., ah yes) Nintendo represents specific platforms (like the Wii U and the 3DS), and as mentioned before... we represent all platforms.

On that note... representing all while one is headed over the others is something we wanted to change.

Nintendo's turn is up next... as I review... (the game they sent at the end of last month... and as you know by the awesome image below, its) The Legend of Zelda Triforce Heroes!

You only get...One Life (in this game)... that's it, good luck!

Okay... sooo (right), there's this game called "One Life" where you have "One Life" and... that's it (you're done), because it locks you out of the game after that. We will be providing more coverage on the game, including a daring game review... just to see how long "One Life" can last in the game, as well as the various other things it has to offer (that make for a thorough review).

I don't want to get deeper than that, but I do want to point out something that should be apparent to anyone buying this game... (remember), don't expect to go C-O-D, or you'd probably end up one... and done quickly (if the game remains that way).

One Life (seemingly) would require a lot more thinking in my opinion. If you're just going in trying to take any and everyone out, that decreases the amount of trust you'd have with others playing with the game.

In other words... if you like to go Rambo, just expect for there to be a rise against you to make sure that the investment in the game doesn't go up in smoke.

This game is doing something no game has intentionally done before (from what I know)... and it could end up being good and/or bad. Bad for those that die early, but rewarding for those truly able to survive, gain friends... and trust as they band together to grow against enemies that also include... zombies. You don't know who would decide to do what in this game, so you'd better know your friends, foes, and frienemies.

My advice to those new to FPS games: You'd better get some practice in other FPS games, crank up the difficulty and up your experience before stepping into this game... especially since you only have "One Life". Coverage for this game couldn't come at a better time... Halloween approaches. Gwahaha(coughing)haha!

Anyway, if you want this game to be released on Steam, vote it up on Steam's Greenlight: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=534994203
