Battlerite fans... a new Champion has entered the arena! + A $10K eSports tournament announced!

New Champion & an event announcement? Yep... the developer is going in for the audience!

NEW CHAMPION & ESPORT EVENT ANNOUNCED!

Wednesday (Feb. 15th, 2017)... Stunlock Studios releases a new champion into the arena. What's his name? Raigon "The Exiled Prince"... a flexible melee swordsman skilled in martial arts. He came to be exiled from his kingdom due to the manipulations of another champion, Pestilus. So the character has a target in this game adding to the depth beyond the arena. I don't see many players really caring about that... because the focus is using the right strategies in the arena to get the victory. That said... a little backstory for the characters doesn't hurt, or they would simply just be characters added in with no sort of origin. The cool thing though is that there are gamers out here who appreciate a characters backstory and connects a bit more with them because of it.

ENTER THE ARENA

Stunlock Studios partners up with major organizations Beyond The Summit and Twitch for “Enter The Arena”, the biggest Battlerite Tournament held so far. The event has a total prize pool of $10,000 and will be running simultaneously in Europe and North America.

“Enter The Arena is the perfect event for kicking off the competitive scene and showing off the game's potential in Esports. We’re hoping to not only offer an entertaining broadcast, but to also introduce the game’s intricacies to fresh audiences, newer players as well as esports fans." says Alexander Hermansson, Head of Esports at Stunlock Studios.

Onslaught eSports recently announced the signing of a currently top-ranked Battlerite squad who will compete in “Enter The Arena” under the Onslaught banner. The team members Connor "Averse" Shacklady, Alvin "Ninjas" Xu and Dominic "Arakune" Valentino are all on the global top-10 ranking, with Averse set as the best individual Battlerite player in the world. Here is an overview of all the invited teams:

Battlerite introduces a new... Champion to the arena? They're buggin'!!!

Meet Pestilus, an arrogant High Priest who controls swarms of insects (ooooo sounds scary).

Tomorrow, Wednesday 14th December, a brand new Battlerite Champion enters the arena. Pestilus aka “Lord of the Swarm” is the head priest of Quna and serves the royal family, but secretly worships an evil deity. His schemes manipulated the king into exiling the crown prince. Pestilus unleashes swarms of insects to infest and cripple his enemies, releasing his innermost darkest desires.

Pestilus is part of tomorrow's massive Winter Update. Patch 0.10 will also include a new ranking system with leagues and divisions, winter/xmas themed weapons, new mounts, new types of chests and the first legendary outfits.

EZMO, THE NEW CHAMPION IN BATTLERITE!

Only three weeks after releasing a huge patch, Stunlock Studios announces another new champion.

Introducing Ezmo “The Mischievous”, an aggressive spellcaster who can move quickly utilising teleportation. Ezmo was once imprisoned by the warlock, Aradu The Reserved, but managed to escape when his captor was too engrossed in reading his tome. Ezmo sealed Aradu's soul within the book, creating the Lost Soul Grimoire, and has carried it ever since. When he isn't playing tricks on people, Ezmo is searching for a way back to his home dimension.

Ezmo is part of the update scheduled for Thursday, November 10th. This patch will also include new types of chests, champion updates and general improvements. Don’t forget Stunlock Studios promises free champions forever when purchasing Early Access.

Hungry for more MOBA action?!

We didn't get the chance towards the end of last month to give props to Stunlock Studios... for topping the Steam Global Top Sellers chart's with Battlerite, but that gets a thumbs up. I have to follow up with a second thumbs up based on the studio providing us with a copy of the game to check out.

Battlerite, the new team arena brawler from indie developer Stunlock Studios, soars to the top of Steam’s Top Seller list with 96% positive user ratings!

Stunlock Studios, an enthusiastic team of indie developers working out of Skövde, Sweden, launched its new online team arena brawler, Battlerite, into Early Access on Steam this week. The team and co-investor, Coffee Stain Studios, are incredibly excited to share that Battlerite immediately soared to the top of the Steam Top Seller list. Initial reactions among players have been overwhelmingly positive and Battlerite currently holds an astounding 96% positive ratings on Steam as of the time of this writing.

“As a small indie development team trying to do our own thing in a genre dominated by some of the biggest games on the planet, seeing these first reactions from players is really amazing. It’s also incredibly humbling, and we’re all keenly aware of the responsibility we have to see the game through Early Access and into full launch and truly make it the best game it can possibly be.” says Peter Ilves, Game Director at Stunlock Studios.

Battlerite is the spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Bloodline Champions, the 2011 PC game also developed by Stunlock Studios. In Battlerite you engage in quick and intense online action by taking control of one of several unique champions. The game is played out in adrenaline-fueled 2v2 and 3v3 battles, and while it can certainly be easy to get into, Battlerite is a game that is challenging yet very rewarding to master.

I don't know how much VR will really change or immerse the level of gameplay depth in a MOBA, but... I wouldn't underestimate or hate on such an option for owners of the hardware. Game on!

I hope all the gamers (and non-gamers) out there are safe and sound. Our condolences to the citizens of Haiti and other locations that have lost people due to the recent Hurricane Matthew. We had the luxury of getting the hell out of here, but not everyone was so lucky and... I can't begin to say how sorry I am for the victims and their family members.
