Overgrowth is here... time to get crazy!

After 9 years of development, Overgrowth (known for its ninja rabbit combat) is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Overgrowth is an absurdly ambitious 3D action game featuring a surreal mix of cute talking animals, bone-crunching bloody kung-fu violence, and a rabbit protagonist who can effortlessly run along walls and leap fifty feet in a single bound. Get it here.

A Few Noteworthy Facts:

  • Launch Sale: We will be conducting a special 30% off launch sale for Overgrowth for one week, starting at its launch on October 16 at 11 a.m. Pacific time.
  • Extra Free Game: Buying Overgrowth also gets you a free copy of Wolfire Games' realistic first-person, gun-handling simulator, Receiver.
  • The Story Is In: Overgrowth finally includes the full story campaign.
  • Graphics Tech: Overgrowth uses its own proprietary rendering engine that includes features absent from even AAA game engines: such as dripping blood physics, refractive raindrops, swirling volumetric fog layers, true MSAA anti-aliasing, perfectly smooth slow-motion interpolation, and simulate flame streaks.
  • Physics Tech: The Overgrowth engine has a strong focus on detailed physics simulation that runs at 120 updates per second, and use constraints to replicate characters' muscle movements and other special effects (like being impaled by weapons or spikes).
  • LOTS OF AWESOME MODS: All of the levels in the game were created using a built-in level editor, which is included for everyone to try. This, combined with Steam Workshop integration, means that there is a wealth of fan-made content to enjoy.

    • For example: Therium 2 (full story campaign mod) is a full polished fan-made story that takes several hours to complete.

Dead Alliance... reviewed!

A competitive FPS game featuring zombies.

Before playing this game, I made an unfair assumption. I didn't really see the value in it because all I saw was head to head matches using zombies to our advantage and that's it. Even if it was an assumption, it turned out to be a pretty safe one... unfortunately.

Dead Alliance puts you smack dab into FPS action crawling with zombies, and you're able to hit your enemies with zombie-attracting goo... to send the zombies their way in your fight for victory. That's not horrible... but... (facepalm) that's pretty much it and it's not done in dramatic fashion... they're just there. If Dead Alliance were a mode in a full-fledged game... then that might be a different story.

Picture this: At the end of the main game they found out how to use the extracted goo they found to control the zombies. Then that would link and justify a Dead Alliance mode. (SDGT Concepts at your service, we can help you round out your games for maximum appreciation. Anyway... back to the review.)

You have different modes of the usual... for this zombified multiplayer FPS:
King of the Hill, Capture and Hold, Team Death Match, Free for All, Capture the Flag and Attrition with 6 maps (Port of Los Angeles, Presidio, Pier 70, Waste Water Plant, Seascape, and Attrition).

They're okay maps, but I am still underwhelmed by the overall package. It's nothing that feels exactly... fresh (and movement feels a bit stiff compared to other shooters) which could've at least lent to the value of this title. You can't even lay on the ground if desired. The biggest problem with this game is the price and the DLC.

This multiplayer experience is $24.99 without the DLC (the same DLC I'm about to go out of orbit on in a few seconds). There are games with more depth than this for $19.99. Unless someone is just crazy about the development team and want to support (because they know something I don't know), or they buy anything zombie related, or a team of kittens made this... or someone made it using only their brain connected to some sort of robot... it's not really going to wow the crowd. To be fair... every single game won't wow, some are even sleeper hits even... but I think the team went wrong in thinking it's all about the multiplayer with zombies. It can be fun, and I didn't mind running around for a few matches in this game... but it just doesn't have enough there for me to rack up some serious playtime.

It totally could have been done in a way to deliver the goods, especially to capture that Zombie-MOBA feel they advertise... but the tools need to be there for players to utilize in an assortment of different ways on the battlefield. Upgraded maps wouldn't have been a bad thing either, but lets just into this DLC.

The so-called Full Game Upgrade makes me think of the full version of the game, and since the multiplayer is what we experience in the base game (which is more like a mode... at this time) I thought it was a single player experience. You'd also be wrong if you simply purchased this DLC by reading the title... because you're not facing in-game single-player missions that allow you to experience some sort of story with a team/military unit... in this world of zombies. For the absurd price of $19.99, you're getting an offline mode of the online multiplayer. An... OFFLINE MODE (say that slow 3 times, then rinse and repeat)! WTF?!

HELL to the NO, no, no... and (yep you guessed it) no! Enough of this, seriously. I don't like doing reviews where I really have to lay into developers, but I have to in this case because it's insulting. Modes (just like we warned about other games) should not be presented as full games, especially with a bad price tag. That doesn't work and... it wastes the resources put into the development.

Step back and think about what a full game is, then update this DLC. It's better than leaving it in a position of facing less sells and scrutiny regarding future releases. At least a cooperative experience to enjoy a survival horror story would increase the justification of the purchase. What could help, is to simply add the DLC to the main game instead of trying to get an extra $19.99 for an offline experience and just charge $20 for the entire package. Any DLC in the future should be worth the purchase and could/should be story content for the most part.

Currently getting the game and the DLC will cost you $39.99... which isn't that far off from games priced a little higher and... most likely containing more content.

A plus I will give the game (yes... I'm giving it a plus):
Regarding the score, one thing I give this game an extra "Fun factor" and "Replay value" point for is the fact that it has LAN capabilities. The ability to get together with friends via laptops... that may be in a location without internet to play online, is something I give the team props for. It may not seem like a big deal, but you have to put yourself in the shoes of someone without internet connection... or really crappy internet connection. I want every gamer to have access to some sort of gaming experience.

Overall, it's not the worse gaming experience in the world, but its nothing I'd recommend.

Fun factor: 3
Visually: 4
Replay value: 3

FTS: WORLD-FIRST GAMING CONTROLLER OPERATED NISSAN GT-R ACHIEVES 130+MPH RUN AROUND SILVERSTONE

LONDON, UK (October 12, 2017) – Nissan has created the ultimate remote-control car for gamers – the Nissan GT-R /C.
Celebrating the release of Gran Turismo Sport and marking 20 years of Nissan involvement in the Gran Turismo gaming series, the one-off project car was extensively modified to be driven entirely by a DualShock®4 controller.

Gran Turismo Sport will be released in the US on October 17, Europe and Australia on October 18and Japan on October 19.
The GT-R /C was put through its paces by Super GT NISMO racing driver and GT Academy winner Jann Mardenborough, around Silverstone’s famous National Circuit. Mardenborough controlled the GT-R /C from the cockpit of a  helicopter.
On Mardenborough’s fastest lap (1:17:47), the GT-R /C averaged 76mph/122kph and reached a top speed of 131mph/211kph.
The GT-R /C is fitted with four robots that operate the steering, transmission, brakes, and throttle. Six computers mounted in the rear of the car update the controls at up to 100 times a second.
The unmodified DualShock®4 connects to a micro-computer which interprets the joystick and button signals and transmits them to the GT-R /C’s onboard systems. The wireless operation has a primary control range of one kilometer.

To help Mardenborough judge the vehicle’s speed through the corners, a Racelogic VBOX Motorsport sensor was installed to relay speed data to an LCD display in the helicopter cockpit.

The GT-R /C is also fitted with two independent safety systems, operating on different radio frequencies, which allow two additional operators to apply full ABS braking and cut the engine in the event of the main operator losing control of the vehicle.
“This was once-in-a-lifetime, truly epic stuff. The GT-R /C has brought my two worlds together – the virtual of gaming and the reality of motorsport – in a way I never thought possible," Mardenborough said.
"The response from the car when using the controller was far more engaging than I thought it would be. JLB Design has done an incredible job at making everything respond really well.
“Steering, acceleration, and braking were all intelligently configured, allowing for a controlled application so I could really get a feel through the corners and hold it steady down the fast straights.
"Driving a full-size, remote-control GT-R to 131mph at Silverstone whilst chasing it down in a helicopter was an unforgettable experience. Now that’s innovation that excites!”

Now racing full-time for Nissan in Japan, Mardenborough starred in the latest round of the Super GT Championship last weekend in Thailand, qualifying on the front row and setting the fastest lap of the race.
In 2018, the Nissan GT-R /C will be used in a tour of primary and secondary schools in the UK to promote future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) subjects.

Samsung Odyssey VR Headset... to wait or to buy? That is the question.

The Samsung Odyssey is coming out this fall... along with Windows VR headsets from Dell, HP, Asus and others. Prices will vary along with quality, look and comfort but... are you interested?

This looks bad ass. - Luis D. Lucha | Sdgt Ent
If you're looking to get a VR headset for your Windows 10 PC... first make sure it can handle the hardware through the official Microsoft compatibility app, but also take a step back and find out if it has the content worth buying the hardware for (when it comes to you). Luckily for gamers... SteamVR will be here for us, but even with that in mind... make sure the games are up your virtual alley. If you know what type of VR action you're into, that is.

I think it'll be worth it for the entertainment. - Yang | Sdgt Ent
Not everyone will get a chance to try before they buy, but try to get your eyes on plenty of reviews before you fire off on a specific one. Look out for the quality and make sure its something you can wear for a long period of time and often. Also, look out for the sound quality if it has built-in headphones, to make sure it's not crappy.

Weigh your options!!! What else can you get, if you're strapped for cash and you have to save up for one of these... then drop the money into one that's worth the money. In other words... avoid the ones that are understandably cheap.

These specific headsets are known as mixed reality headsets (that don't require additional sensors around the home) and... I look forward to the day these things are advanced enough to be wireless, allowing me to walk around my home freely. If I were going to get one this fall, it would probably be the Samsung Odyssey due to the AMOLED screens and the AKG headphones... because the quality needs to be there in order for me to get my actual worth out of it (especially for $499 + tax). The better the quality, the more I can appreciate the experience.

A game has to be... super good to get me back to motion controls. - RkRk | Sdgt Ent

The Samsung Odyssey gives you 2880 x 1600 in resolution, OLED display, 90Hz refresh rate, 110˚ max field view, headphones + dual array mics and motion controllers (the ones you see here). By the way... when it comes to VR controllers, it wouldn't hurt to have some with additional buttons for the purpose of advanced gameplay. Then again... I am completely fine holding a standard game controller while without flailing my arms about.

Samsung Odyssey VR Headset... to wait or to buy? Hmm, depends on if you're content with the cost mainly. There are people that go after the latest tech and want to maximize their experiences, so if you want to get your hands on one... do yourself the biggest favor and enjoy it to the fullest.
