From the source: Nintendo... eShop action includes Sega Dreamcast content? Hmmm

Games... galore! By the way, I wonder what +Nintendo could possibly be cooking up with Sega. I doubt it would be a co-ownership of Nintendo or a merger with Sega, but there could be more Sega Dreamcast content on the Nintendo hardware. I mean... think about it, why would a company allow a past platform to be represented on its system in any way beyond games or characters that may have been on that system. Keep your eyes open, because this may be one... interesting... E3 2016!

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For over a decade, Pokémon video game and Pokémon Trading Card Game players have tirelessly trained and battled in official Pokémon Championship Series events throughout the year for the opportunity to be crowned Pokémon World Champion. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International announced today that the upcoming Pokkén Tournament game for Wii U will join the Pokémon Championship Series beginning this spring. One way to prepare for and even gain entry into the official 2016 Pokémon Championship Series, as well as getting the chance to play Pokkén Tournament before it launches on March 18, is attending the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competitions being hosted by Nintendo at select GameStop locations across the United States on Saturday, Feb. 27. Winners from the regional tournaments will advance to the finals being held at the Nintendo NY store in New York on March 17. The final two winners of the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competitions will earn travel awards to the 2016 Pokémon US National Championships (July 1-3 in Columbus, Ohio), where they will battle to advance to the 2016 Pokémon World Championships, the premiere Pokémon tournament of the year.
On Feb. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. local time, GameStop stores in the following cities will host local qualifiers for the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competition. Registration will begin at each regional location starting at 10 a.m. local time. Players will compete at these regional competitions for a chance to move on to the finals at the Nintendo NY store in New York:
  • 2201 Preston Road, Plano, TX
  • 1841 Chamblee Tucker Road, Chamblee, GA
  • 3972 Barranca Parkway, Irvine, CA

The Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competitions are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be split into two age brackets: players born in 2001 or later and players born in 2000 or earlier. The winner of each age bracket will then be trained by a professional fighting game player during fun training sessions that will be shared on Nintendo social media channels. Once training is complete, the winner from each city and age bracket and a guest will be flown to the Nintendo NY store on March 17 for the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competition finals, where they will battle against all other local champions. The winners of the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competition finals will each win a Wii U system, the Pokkén Tournament game and a travel award to Columbus, Ohio, where they will battle at the 2016 Pokémon US National Championships for the chance to advance to the 2016 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco.
“If you have fighting game skills and love all things Pokémon, but never had a chance to combine the two, the Pokkén Tournament Early Access Competition is your chance to show off your skills,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “You’re only a few battles away from the chance to win an amazing travel award to the largest Pokémon competitive event in the United States!”
“We cannot wait to add Pokkén Tournament to the Pokémon Championship Series,” said J.C. Smith, The Pokémon Company International’s Senior Director of Consumer Marketing. “It’ll be fun watching who’ll quickly master the game, moving on to the Pokémon US National Championships, and ultimately battling Pokkén Tournament players from around the globe at the 2016 Pokémon World Championships.”
Pokkén Tournament launches for Wii U on March 18, and brings high-definition game play and over-the-top action to never-before-seen battles between some of the most recognizable Pokémon characters. People that buy the first production run version of the game will also receive a special Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card, which can be tapped to the Wii U GamePad controller to unlock the Shadow Mewtwo playable character in the game. When customers pre-order and purchase Pokkén Tournament from GameStop, they will receive a double-sided poster featuring art of some of the epic battles in Pokkén Tournament (while supplies last).

Choose Your Fate in Fire Emblem Fates for Nintendo 3DS

Different Games Offer Unique Adventures
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For the first time in the beloved Fire Emblem series, you can play through different adventures with unique storylines and characters in the Fire Emblem Fates games for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The first two versions, Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, launch on Feb. 19. You are faced with a major choice: Do you choose to team up with the birth family you barely know and battle the family that raised you in Birthright? Or do you walk the more challenging path of Conquest and change your misguided kingdom from within? The choice is yours. Let the adventures begin.
In Fire Emblem Fates, you play as a princess or prince of Hoshido who was raised by Nohrian royals, ...
In Fire Emblem Fates, you play as a princess or prince of Hoshido who was raised by Nohrian royals, forced to make a choice that will change history (and the game itself!) forever. (Graphic: Business Wire)
Fire Emblem Fates is a tactical RPG with a massive cast of memorable characters, an epic story and a deep, yet deceptively simple, battle system. In the game, you play as a princess or prince of Hoshido who was raised by Nohrian royals, forced to make a choice that will change history (and the game itself!) forever. For the first time in the franchise, your customizable female or male avatar is the main character in the game.
Battles in the game take place on a series of grid-like maps, which serve as your setting for commanding an army of characters with different specialties. Fans of past Fire Emblem games will be familiar with the famous “weapon triangle,” or the way different weapons are strong or weak against others. A sword will best an axe, an axe will best a spear and so on. This battle system seems simple at first, but adds an immense amount of strategy to each turn on the battlefield.
Like previous Fire Emblem games, by playing the game on the default “Classic” difficulty setting, characters that fall in battle are gone … forever. This makes every decision an important one, as favorite characters that you’ve grown to love could be gone in an instant after just one bad decision. You can also choose to play in Casual Mode to have fallen comrades return after each battle’s conclusion, or Phoenix Mode to have lost allies return immediately in the next turn of the battle.
To give yourself the best opportunity for success in battle, allies can pair up to receive stat boosts. Pairing up with another character is as easy as standing next to them on the map. In a new feature to the series, landing on special Dragon Vein spaces on the map with Hoshidan and Nohrian royals can also alter the battlefield in dramatic ways … usually to your advantage.
“ ‘Which path will I choose?’ That’s the big question fans have been asking themselves going into the launch of Fire Emblem Fates for Nintendo 3DS,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “With multiple massive adventures filled with exhilarating game play and surprise-filled stories, maybe the best answer is ‘all of them!’ ”
One of the most robust new features in all versions of Fire Emblem Fates is an area called My Castle. Here, you can prepare for upcoming battles, interact with allies to build stronger relationships or defend the castle from mysterious invasions. Many facilities of different types can be constructed in your personalized castle, including an Armory to purchase powerful new weapons, an Arena to battle for prizes and even a Private Quarters to meet with and strengthen relationships with your allies. As you progress through the game’s main story, more structures can be built, and existing structures upgraded.
Building relationships with fellow characters is one of the most fascinating parts of the Fire Emblem games. In Fire Emblem Fates, this feature continues and is more intriguing than ever before. The higher the support level, the better these allies will battle together. When two characters reach the highest relationship level, they might even get married. New to the Fire Emblem Fates games, you can use Second Seal items to give spouses the same character class.
The rich history of the Fire Emblem series meets Fire Emblem Fates by using the Marth, Ike, Robin or Lucina amiibo figures (sold separately). By tapping these figures to a New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL system (or to a Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL or Nintendo 2DS system using the Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer accessory), you’ll receive special items or battle against them for the chance to have them join your party.
All versions of Fire Emblem Fates are full games with unique stories offering hours and hours of role-playing game play and unique stories with their own twists and turns. On Feb. 19Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest launch in stores, in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS or at http://www.nintendo.com/games at a suggested retail price of $39.99 each. Once one version is purchased, the other version can be downloaded from the in-game shop that appears in Chapter 6 for only $19.99, opening up a new adventure to experience. On March 10, a third option,Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, will launch as downloadable content from the in-game shop within Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest for only $19.99.
Fans that want to play through all three versions can purchase them all separately, or pick up the Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition bundle, which launches at select retail locations on Feb. 19 and includes all three games on a single game card, an artbook and a Nintendo 3DS pouch at a suggested retail price of $79.99. By purchasing the Special Edition, fans can play the Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation game weeks before it launches as downloadable content on March 10.
Starting on Feb. 19, further downloadable content in the form of new maps will also be released on a regular basis. You can choose to buy each of these maps individually, or purchase Map Pack 1 for a suggested retail price of $17.99 to get access to all 11 maps plus bonus content as they are released at a discount when compared to buying everything individually.

When Your Species Faces Extinction from Dragons, Logically, You Turn to Time Travel

We wanted to take a moment and clear up the common misconceptions about dragons these days because of all the movies and TV shows depicting them in a positive light. So let's clear that up right now. Dragons. Are. Bad. News.

So naturally, the dragons in 7th Dragon III Code: VFD are realistically shown as the colossal vessels of destruction that prey on humanity they are. And you can see this scourge in action in the latest trailer for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS RPG.

Starting off mid-apocalypse with terrifying dragons flying around and the toxic Dragonsbane flower in full bloom, it's pretty obvious that Earth is an extremely bleak place for humans. Fortunately, Nodens Enterprises -- the video game company dedicated to stopping the dragon menace -- has a plan: Travel through time to three different eras, so a small force can weaken the dragons' power. This therefore gives mankind a much-needed edge to defeat the True Dragons and stand a chance against the most powerful one of them all... the 7th Dragon: VFD.
Talking about traveling through time to defeat dragons is one thing, but actually traveling through time to defeat dragons is a whole different beast. The road to humanity's salvation is paved with a variety of draconian dragons, High Dragons, and True Dragons, so players must choose their teams carefully and adapt to each encounter.

Will Nintendo be able to attract more Nintendo fans with this new app by attracting Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook users? Sound off in the comments below. I can picture it being an app that parents get their kids to use instead of those other alternatives... which IDK what that would mean for the older audience at that point.

Not to sound like a hater... but it's something that can happen. The assumption is still in the minds of some that... Nintendo is for kids, but give the app a chance if interested and see what you think for yourself. It won't be an app of 100% childhood users, but it won't have 100% teen or adult users either.

This is the type of software that should be tied into the NX home console & handheld software... which should have achievements, status updates that sync to all your registered devices, etc. Xbox Live has something of the sort... but it doesn't have what Nintendo is presenting with Miitomo, though it should, and Xbox had plenty of time to do so (for the benefit of Xbox Live, Windows Phone, and Windows PC users). Anyway... check out this from the source information and... game on!

Preregistration Now Open for Miitomo, Nintendo’s First Smart Device App

Create Nintendo Account Before Launch Day and Receive My Nintendo Platinum Points
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo’s first-ever app for smart devices, Miitomolaunches next month, but now’s the time to sign up to receive a notification when the app is available for download. Now through launch day, anyone can preregister for Miitomo by signing up for the new Nintendo Account service at http://www.Miitomo.com and be among the first to be notified about the availability of Miitomo when it launches in March. Those who create their Nintendo Account before the launch of Miitomo will also receive Platinum Points for the new My Nintendo rewards program, which will launch simultaneously with Miitomo.

Miitomo is a free-to-start social experience that lets you spark conversations with your friends in a whole new way and uses Nintendo's Mii characters. (Photo: Business Wire)
Miitomo makes it easy for people to express themselves and interact with their friends in new and fun ways,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Preregistering now is the best way to be among the first to get in on the fun when Miitomo launches next month.”
Miitomo is a free-to-start social experience that lets you spark conversations with your friends in a whole new way and uses Nintendo’s Mii characters, which first debuted with the launch of Wii Sports in 2006. More than 200 million Mii characters currently exist across Nintendo systems worldwide. To get started, users can quickly create a Mii character, customizing its facial features, eyes, hair, as well as voice and personality. Users can also use the camera of their smartphone or tablet to snap a photo that will be translated into Mii form, or they can simply import their Mii from the Wii U or Nintendo 3DS systems using a QR Code.
Once their Mii is ready to act as their social go-between, users can add friends in person, or through their existing Facebook or Twitter accounts. Once that step is complete, then it’s time to answer some questions. Miitomo creates conversations and turns discussions into a form of play by prompting users to answer all kinds of questions. Did you know that your best friend’s favorite food is pizza? Maybe, but did you know her favorite music genre is secretly polka? And that she believes in aliens? The answers get shared among friends, sparking interesting conversations – part of the fun is discovering surprise facts about your friends that you never knew before. When users hear how their friends responded to questions, they can give it a “heart” or comment through text or with a picture.
Mii characters will travel around and visit others that users have added as friends in the app, so it’s important to look good. As users experience Miitomo, they’ll earn Miitomo coins, which can be redeemed in the in-app shop to get all kinds of cool outfits. Users also have the option to get more Miitomo coins via in-app purchase. Users can set their own style with shorts, pants, socks, shirts, shoes, accessories and hats. If users want to go further in expressing themselves, they can dress up in a variety of outlandish costumes, such as a bear costume, pirate costume or hot dog costume.
Users can also express themselves with the Miifoto feature, which lets them put their Mii characters in fun poses with cool stamps, or by combining their Mii image with photos they have taken themselves. These creations can then easily be posted to social media services like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Launching alongside Miitomo in March, My Nintendo aims to become much more than a traditional rewards program. It is a more comprehensive service that rewards users for interacting with Nintendo products and services in a variety of ways. Miitomo users with a Nintendo Account will be able to take advantage of My Nintendo to enhance their experience.
