Best Nintendo Switch Games For Family Fun: Sonic Superstars

Gaming as a family is a great way to bond and spend quality time together. It also gives parents a chance to enjoy game time with their children and make memories that will last a lifetime. Gaming can be a great way to teach kids about teamwork, problem-solving, and competition in a healthy and fun way. In addition to games relieving stress and delivering fun, there are some that provide other benefits that most movies & TV shows don't deliver.

In the case of Sonic Superstars, your children learn about teamwork + healthy competition, which are great things to begin grasping at an early age. Sonic Superstars launches October 17th, 2023... and would make for a great launch title for family game night! If you're a big Sonic fan, consider making it a chili dog night!

Sonic Superstars... takes things back to the 2D days of Sonic The Hedgehog with 3D models, and serves up a multiplayer game where up to 4 people can drop in & out of the action as needed. It's the first time a Sonic game allowed for 4-players to play through the full campaign together in the pursuit of harnessing the power of the chaos emeralds to take down the baddies.

When it comes to the 4-player action, you will choose from Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and... Amy. Your team will take on the likes of the infamous Dr. Eggman, Fang, and Trip as they execute a plan to turn the Northstar Islands giant animals into Badniks.

In Sonic Superstars, you aren't simply side scrolling and going through loops, your team navigates in a variety of ways that bring back the signature moves we know and love, but also new moves as seen here:

In Sonic Superstars, you can:

- 4-player local co-op & online Battle mode

- Multiply, swim up waterfalls, change form, and more with the powers of the Chaos Emeralds

- Multiple paths and secrets

This game is rated E for Everyone!

Sonic Frontiers

Sonic the Hedgehog is back with an all-new adventure that Speed Freaks may want to check out! With worlds colliding and high-speed action around every corner, this latest installment in the Sonic franchise is definitely one for Sonic fans to consider!

Players will race across five massive overworld islands, each with its own unique action-platforming challenges and hidden secrets to uncover. The all-new battle system and skill tree upgrades will come in handy as players take on mysterious foes, and the new Cyloop ability will help Sonic speed through cyberspace levels at lightning speeds!

If you're a Sonic fan, check out this latest mystery-filled adventure that takes the Blue Blur to a new frontier! This isn't an official review, but SEGA has something with Sonic Frontiers, and should certainly build on it with improvements. Would you be upset with Sonic Frontiers 2 or 3 if you can enjoy new adventures?

Mario & Sonic: The Frustration

Super Mario & Sonic The Hedgehog are two legends in their own right, right? They've both had some pretty awesome adventures... although i'd have to hand it to Mario for having more worthy of actually playing, but I won't get into all that (right now).

I'm just wondering... why do we have these two adventurous legends in multiple titles together, but we can't seem to get them in a collaborative adventure game? I'm sure I've spoken on this before, but... I don't know, it was just on my mind.

It would be a major win win for both companies. Nintendo Switch has a nice sized user base, and it definitely wouldn't hurt SEGA to have Sonic in a bigger spotlight than he's been in awhile.

I'm not talking about another Olympics game that i'll never buy, again.

I'm talking about a full fledged kick ass adventure game with tons of amazing action, adventure, Easter eggs and everything else. Where there's a will there's a way.

What I wouldn't want to see is a 2.5D adventure that reminds me of... New Super Mario Bros Wii. Been there... don't want that. I wouldn't want to see the Blue Blur flying through levels either. Instead I'd like to actually see Sonic's speed used in a different way, you can't appreciate the worlds when he's just flying through. No offense to SEGA, but Nintendo would be the best one to hold the reins considering their track record with Mario.

I won't be dishing out specific ideas (sorry James), but they have enough to go on and the ability to marry ideas from both worlds to create something new and worthy of a sequel... if done right. It starts somewhere, but they already have the relationship... so there's no ice to break. One thing i'm confident a collaborative adventure would do without a doubt... is rake in the money.

Aside from that, i'd love to see a full remake to Sonic Adventure... and a full 3D remake of Super Mario World. If Capcom can do it, it's not above Nintendo or SEGA to do so... just saying. Game on!

Just because its FRIDAY... Sonic The Hedgehog Bling-Bling

Every time you see the Blue Blur... bling bling. Put respect on his super speed... bling bling. He goes gold when he gets the em-e-ralds... bling bling. The king of collecting gold rings... bling bling.

He's spinning... grinning... dashing... thrashing... forever winning... he's name is Sonic... forever beloved by all the women... and he's rocking red shoes with a white strip, white socks... and chaos emeralds... he truly rocks.

If you can't keep up... he'll be right back... with a Jaleel White voice firm-ly in-tact... grabbing ya by the hand as he runs to victory... could you imagine even having a tad of super speed?!... always my pleasure to share my flow... but look at the time... vroom vroom... GAME ON... I gotta go!

Every time you see the Blue Blur... bling bling. Put respect on his super speed... bling bling. He goes gold when he gets the em-e-ralds... bling bling. The king of collecting gold rings... bling bling.

Grab this bundle now and get your spin on with Mr. Blue Blur himself... Sonic The Hedgehog!

SEGA needs to take a long hard look at why Sonic Adventure got praise + Sonic Generations + Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection. They can do so much more with Sonic the Hedgehog, and the fans continue to buy (for now) in hopes that the game is a hit.

They can also do their homework with Super Mario Odyssey. The game made a splash in a big way, and it wasn't just because they made the game flashy... they took their time to make it stellar. I could care less about a custom character being in the Sonic world... that's not new and exciting, I want to take Sonic to the bleeding edge of mind-blowing that soars off the "Bad Ass" meter.

Sonic can run on water, and I'm sure there are other things that can be done with his abilities. Tails too, and I can't forget about Knuckles and the other cast of characters. There is so much potential, and I hope to see it one of these days... perhaps in Sonic Adventure 3. There are more than enough talented people in the world able to get the job done right. Think about it. - Blu

From the source: Nintendo... eShop action includes Sega Dreamcast content? Hmmm

Games... galore! By the way, I wonder what +Nintendo could possibly be cooking up with Sega. I doubt it would be a co-ownership of Nintendo or a merger with Sega, but there could be more Sega Dreamcast content on the Nintendo hardware. I mean... think about it, why would a company allow a past platform to be represented on its system in any way beyond games or characters that may have been on that system. Keep your eyes open, because this may be one... interesting... E3 2016!

From the Source: Sega - Sega 3D Classics Collection

Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Power Drift and Puyo Puyo 2... are easily the top games
in this collection for me. What about you? Sound off in the comments below.

+Nintendo, you should seriously consider achievements in the project nx home console and handheld OS. I can't stress this enough, because... it increases the life of games via various challenges we'd have to accomplish in order to be rewarded with something that adds to our collective rep.

Relive Nine O.G. Sega Games with the SEGA 3D Classics Collection
Yo wassup dawg?! Remember loading up your SEGA Master System or Genesis with the raddest cartridge back in the day and playing for hours? Well, you may not be a kid anymore, but we've got the illest cure for your feelings of nostalgia, because the SEGA 3D Classics Collection will be released physically and digitally in the Americas! Sega will be hooking playas up with nine old school games -- that have been powered up with fresh new visuals and content by the fly M2 posse -- for the Nintendo 3DS system on April 26. (Alright, that's enough 90s corporate video game store training video, we apologize for subjecting you to it.)

The SEGA 3D Classics Collection, available on the Nintendo eShop and in retail stores contains nine classic SEGA games originally released on SEGA's Master System and Genesis consoles:
  • Power Drift - A high octane sprite-based circuit racer.
  • Puyo Puyo 2 - A head-to-head competitive puzzle game.
  • Maze Walker - A 3D mystery adventure.
  • Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa - A classic psychedelic scrolling shooter.
  • Fantasy Zone II W - Fantasy Zone II W is basically an updated version of the game above.
  • Sonic The Hedgehog - Control the iconic character in the classic fast-paced platformer.
  • Thunder Blade - Helicopters, guns, missiles and explosions. What more do you need?
  • Galaxy Force II - Save the galaxy in this space themed3D shoot 'em up.
  • Altered Beast - A beat 'em up set in ancient Greece.
You may have noticed that some of the games in the collection are already available Γ  la carte only on the Nintendo eShop, and wonder why you need the SEGA 3D Classics Collection. Well, in addition to getting a physical release, the collection includes four games that haven't been released on the 3DS before (two of which never made it out of Japan!), and the total for the nine games clocks in at just $29.99/CA$44.99. So take a chill pill, quit trippin' yo, and check out these fly screenshots! (Sorry, we said we'd stop, and we didn't. Apologies again.)

The never-before-released-outside-of-Japan Power Drift will satisfy your need for speed.

The other never-before-released-outside-of-Japan Puyo Puyo 2 will test friendships.
Take a psychedelic trip, man, in Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa.
Whatever you do, don't panic in Maze Walker.
Unleash your beast mode in Altered Beast.
Guess who has to save the Space Federation in Galaxy Force II.

Don't Drift Aimlessly - POWER DRIFT with Purpose in the SEGA 3D Classics Collection
Nine Sega Classics (some unreleased!) Arriving on April 26for Nintendo 3DS
IRVINE, Calif. - Jan. 21, 2016 - The best thing about classics is that they never go out of style, which is why SEGA of America is bringing nine classic SEGA games to the Nintendo 3DS™ system as part of the SEGA 3D Classics Collection. The best part - four of the nine classics are games that have never been released on the 3DS previously. For all of the included classics, developer M2 painstakingly recreated the experiences by breaking down the original games and powering them up with new visuals, game modes, and more to take full advantage of the Nintendo 3DS system. The SEGA 3D Classics Collection will be available in stores and digitally exclusively in the Americas for $29.99/CA$44.99 on April 26, 2016.
Because it's a collection, the most prudent thing to do would be to list the games included, starting with the titles never-before-released outside of Japan first:
  • Power Drift - This sprite-based circuit racer puts you head to head against other AI racers in a twisting, turning, jumping, looping race to the finish.
  • Puyo Puyo 2 - This head-to-head competitive puzzle game is simple to learn, hard to master, and compellingly addictive. Compete against the AI or friends in local multiplayer. Note: because of the quirks of trying to localize a game hard-coded in Japanese, the game has been left entirely in its original language. English instructions are available in the included digital manual.
Next, we have a pair of rarities not released on the 3DS before - true collectibles for the Master System enthusiast:
  • Maze Walker - Originally designed for the SegaScope 3-D glasses on the Sega Master System, Maze Walker comes to life on the 3DS, faithfully reproducing the sense of depth as players try to escape the mysterious, twisting maze filled with unknown dangers. Originally released as Maze Hunter for the Master System in the West.
  • Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa - The sentient space ship Opa-Opa is back to defend its bases from evil (but cute!) invaders in the classic scrolling shooter. For SEGA history buffs, this version ofFantasy Zone II is the original Master System version.
And for the previously released titles:
  • Fantasy Zone II W -Fantasy Zone II W, which was originally created for the Master System, is the version of Fantasy Zone II upgraded to the graphical capabilities of the System- 16 arcade board with added 3D effects. You can enjoy it in 2 game modes with different rules.
  • Sonic The Hedgehog - The evil scientist, Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik), has snatched the animals of South Island, turning them into robot slaves. Only the famed blue blur can defeat Dr. Eggman and rescue the animals from his vile clutches in the game that started it all for the fastest hedgehog - Sonic!
  • Thunder Blade - In Thunder Blade, players control a helicopter and use guns and missiles to destroy enemy vehicles while flying between buildings, through caves, and into enemy bases. The re-mastered version boasts stereoscopic 3D visuals and adds a host of new features.
  • Galaxy Force II - As the star pilot of the Space Federation, it's up to you to strap yourself into your TRY-X fighter and turn the tables on the invade forces of Halcyon and the Fourth Empire in this 3D shoot 'em up.  This remastered version has upgraded graphics with double the resolution of the original for a more pleasing aesthetic.
  • Altered Beast - Summoned from the dead by Zeus, players in Altered Beast must shape shift into various beasts and fight off hordes of demons to rescue the captured Athena from the clutches of Neff. Offers local co-op multiplayer.
