PARIS – May 21, 2026 – Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive are excited to announce the release of the new “Purgation" Update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 during today’s Warhammer Skulls Festival. Available today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, this update brings a host of both free and paid content, including the long-awaited Iron Hands Chapter Pack.

A new Operation and the most significant Siege Mode update so far

Today’s Space Marine 2 update comes with free content for everyone, featuring a new PvE Operation in the heart of the Kadaku swamps and a major revamp of Siege Mode progression mechanics, in addition to the Hive Tyrant and Mutalith Vortex Beast joining the game mode. All players will also receive new Heroic weapons and armor pieces, a new Practice Arena in the Battle-Barge, and a new secondary weapon, the Bolt Carbine Sidearm! The Purgation Update also comes with the Iron Hands Chapter Pack, the last of the First Founding Loyalist Chapters to receive a DLC. Available for free to all Season Pass 2 owners, the pack contains a Techmarine Champion skin, exclusive Omnissian Axe skin, and four unique, mechanical armor pieces honoring the warriors of the 10th Legion.

Back on the battlefield with Captain Titus in... Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2!

Can you believe the first Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine... was released back in September 2011? That was 13 freaking years ago. I was fresh out of college living in Miami at the time, and Onlive was still... online. While trying to support emerging tech platforms, I decided to get the game through Onlive and enjoyed every bit of the brutal action adventure starring Captain Demetrian Titus. I tried to get into the online mode, but... the adventure grabbed my attention more so.

The decorated 200+ year Vet represented the Ultramarines Chapter of the Imperium of man well in the first installment and allowed us to take on the invading Orks on the Forge World Graia. I think one thing that got me into that game were the personalities of the Orks, led by the badass... Warboss Grimskull. He isn't the only threat in the game either, you have to take on... traitors & daemons like The Warp.

Even if you jump into Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2... it wouldn't be a bad idea to check out the first installment. Part 2 picks up the story... years later. I won't hit you with spoilers when it comes to the way part 1 left off, but it definitely made me curious about how he would emerge in the next installment. Titus is now a lieutenant, and returns to the battlefield to face new threats with loyalty, duty, and freaking politics that don't make the fight against the forces of Chaos any easier.

I won't spoil it for ya, but it's once heck of an adventure that's worth playing. Here's a dose of gameplay via the first 30:

Game Modes and Features

• Campaign: Follow the story of Lieutenant Titus as he battles the Tyranid threat across various planets. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op with up to two other players.

• Operations (PvE): Engage in endlessly replayable PvE missions with up to three players. Complete auxiliary missions on six different maps with unique objectives and threats.

• 
  Eternal War (PvP): Participate in 6 vs. 6 PvP matches in three different game modes: Annihilation (Team Deathmatch), Seize Ground (Domination), and Capture & Control (King of the Hill).

Personal Experience with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

I played the original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine extensively, enjoying the main campaign’s rewarding journey of mowing down aliens with both ranged and melee weaponry... from beginning to end. The PvP multiplayer was okay, but the main campaign was my favorite. It’s been over a decade since the first installment, and I’m excited to dive into this long-awaited sequel. (Time has flown by.)

Game Features and Modes

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 invites players to embody the titular supersoldiers in all their brutality and glory across single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes. Players will face horrors from beyond the stars as the full weight of Warhammer 40,000’s galactic warfare descends on a single star system. The combat is a grand spectacle, combining fluid movement and lightning reflexes with massive weaponry and overwhelming power.

Co-op and PvP Gameplay

Players can take on swarms of alien creatures, otherworldly daemons, and corrupted traitors to the Imperium in a co-op-enabled campaign as Titus and his battle-brothers Chairon and Gadriel. Additionally, specific PvE missions and PvP battles allow players to customize and upgrade six unique classes of Space Marines.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is available for pre-order now. The Standard and Gold Editions are available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation stores. The digital-only Ultra Edition offers another option for fans and includes the exclusive “Ultramarines Champion Pack” DLC.
