Side-Scrolling Action Adventure will Feature Legendary Yakuza Series Actor Takaya Kuroda as Lead Voice Talent

TOKYO, Japan – June 4, 2024 – NetEase Games announced today that Rusty Rabbit, a new 2.5D action side scroller will launch on September 24 for PlayStation®5 and PC. Developed in collaboration between NetEase Games and visual novel company NITRO PLUS, Rusty Rabbit brings a personal story that delivers plenty of adventure and exploration along with “smash and dash” gameplay action. In Rusty Rabbit, players take control of Stamp, a rabbit living among the giant ruins of a frozen world abandoned by humanity. The original concept and screenplay for Rusty Rabbit was created by Gen Urobuchi, writer of famous anime series’ such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica and PSYCHO-PASS, as well as writer of the Godzilla animated movie trilogy which aired on Netflix. Pre-orders for the game will open on June 5 and PlayStation 5 customers who pre-order will receive early access starting September 21, three days before its official release. Rusty Rabbit will have an MSRP of $29.99.

Rusty Rabbit will feature Takaya Kuroda (Kazuma Kiryu in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series) as the Japanese voice of the main character, Stamp. Additionally, Rusty Rabbit will be a part of the upcoming Summer Game Fest event (June 7-10) and will also be a feature panel at the upcoming Anime Expo in Los Angeles (July 7). During the panel, fans will be able to join Gen Urobuchi, Takaya Kuroda and producer Yuichiro Saito for a discussion and see brand new content from the game. A fan Q&A will follow the panel presentation.

Thousands of years after humans left this planet, it was rabbits who inherited it…

Stamp, an old and eccentric rabbit living on a planet abandoned by humanity, spends his days piloting his trusty mech affectionately known as “Junkster”, collecting junk throughout the ruins of the frozen world and tinkering with machines. In a stroke of bad luck, Stamp crashes down into the world’s lower levels. There he finds D-TAM; terminals for storing information. Using D-TAM, he finds info related to his missing daughter and a hidden truth about the world they live in. Thus his journey begins, digging deeper into these ruins to unfold the mysteries surrounding this world.

Yakuza Kiwami 2... Reviewed!

Thank you for checking out my first review! Yakuza Kiwami 2 was provided to us by SEGA to review the game on Xbox One, and it's running on the same engine as Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 follows Kazuma Kiryu after his days in the Tojo Clan, or so he thought they were behind him. After an assassination, he was trusted right back into the world of the Yakuza.

Visuals: Running on the Dragon Engine, the graphics in Yakuza Kiwami 2 are on point. I love the way each area flows seamlessly into the next. You can tell the difference between this re-creation of Yakuza 2 and the original.

No matter if it's raining or the wind is just blowing, it's a beautiful game and there was no break in the gameplay when entering or leaving the buildings. The visuals in this re-creation are night and day when comparing the overhauled character facial animations to the original, and the experience has been improved through the audio also. Key voiced lines got a mulligan for Kiwami 2, anything else would've been a fail when you've rebuilt everywhere else.

The cutscenes were amazing and I didn't look for a skip button once, even if some of them were long I didn't want to lose track of the story. The camera angles and action were packaged well with the dramatic music and they didn't keep the camera locked into one position, it was like an animated movie.

Gameplay: I enjoyed the gameplay, the interactions, the objects in-game aren't just immovable props that do nothing when you run or walk into them and I just appreciate those little touches that add to the experience.

The fighting in Yakuza Kiwami 2 was very fluent, there were no big delays in-between button commands from picking up an object to combo strings or blocking. Street brawling and weapon-based combat were both fun, but so were the leisure and other action-packed activities. I like games like this where you can enjoy a story and other experiences that extend the gameplay.

Replay Value: Some of the mini-games took me back to old school Sega games, and Virtua Fighter 2 was a blast from the past. That's one thing SEGA has taken advantage of when it comes to games like this, they gave us old school access in newer school games. Remember the old school games in Shenmue? Some of the mini-games took me a few turns before I got the swing of them. Darts took me a few turns to get into but it's fun and so were the other games. I think these are great additions to Yakuza Kiwami 2 because they're fun and they give you a break from the main storyline.

Summary

Kazuma Kiryu thought his Tojo Clan days were behind him. He and the young girl in his care, Haruka Sawamura, have built a peaceful life from the ashes of conflict. All it took was a single gunshot to shatter that peace. Yukio Terada, the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, has been assassinated. With war on the horizon, the legendary Dragon of Dojima is pulled back into the world he wanted to leave behind.
