Women's Month: Women + Gaming!

During Women's History Month, my mind fondly turns to my mother, who played a pivotal role in introducing me to the world of console gaming. While it was a shared interest fostered by both my parents, with the tabletop Pac-Man arcade game as a nostalgic starting point, I credit my mother particularly. She was my steadfast companion in gaming, offering even greater encouragement for the passion we shared. Of course, my experience with my mom isn't just about gaming. It's important to counter the enduring stereotype that questions women’s interest in video games though, because I honestly didn't come from that. My mom, my female siblings, and my female cousins gamed (and still do). There's a certain pride in defying such narrow expectations. Existing in that grey area is a beautiful thing because we had a blast together... and some of you can say the same thing.

Reflecting on this theme, a situation from my past springs to mind. As a project manager for a game development project, I encountered resistance when I appointed a woman to a leading role within a department. The project was already underway, but they needed someone to bring structure... so I was brought in to make sense of it. Despite the urgency of our development timeline, this appointment unexpectedly became a controversial issue due to one team member's inability to accept her leadership. His reaction was so extreme that he shut down altogether. I was honestly like... WTF is this?

Confronted with this obstacle, I engaged in a sincere discussion with the disgruntled team member. His unease, as he revealed, stemmed from the false notion that reporting to a female leader was demeaning. My approach wasn't to embarrass him but to highlight the valuable experience and insight he forfeited by not acknowledging her expertise (which was far greater than he had). I emphasized the importance of being open to female leadership, which is an inevitable reality in any professional landscape (it just boiled down to where he'd end up working). It's irrational to jeopardize one's career because of a woman's leadership role. And it wasn't like she was being mean to him, she went by the book... followed objectives and everything ran smooth outside of that guy. That is... until I got his mind right.

Addressing such bias is crucial, and he had to be challenged on what his experience was (in one of a series of one on one meetings so that he understood that her experience exceeded his and it has nothing to do with her gender) – and not to generalize; this isn’t the mindset of all men which is a good thing but does it exist? Yes! Is it a win? No, undermining or contesting a woman's leadership based on gender can hold back the individual pushing prejudice (in this case sexism)... along with their growth. Don't let this be you.

Anyway, let's acknowledge and celebrate the women whose leadership has shaped some of the incredible games that enliven our leisure time and to the ladies who don't game... pick up a controller and game on! There are varioius options from casual games to the most challenging games that some guys even shy away from... because it's all about what you prefer to play.

By the way... don't miss out on the current Humble Heroines game bundle!

Valve Steam Deck is available now without the wait!

Valve's Steam Deck is now available without the waiting list. There is no guarantee that there won't be back orders, but this is promising.

I don't believe it's just that. I think Valve made this decision... because if gamers or their parents had to reserve a system, the Steam Deck would be a no-go option for the 2022 holiday season. - Blu

This is possible, but for Valve's sake, they should be prepared for the potential sales that pour in during the busy holidays. Before they took away the waiting list, Valve did ramp up Steam Deck production. This could mean that they are confident in their production performance to the level of what they'd need for the 2022 holidays.

If they can handle the season, we believe the Steam Deck is a great option to consider as a gift because it's a portable gaming PC, it's a handheld system, and it's also a console that you're able to connect to your TV. If this was the only reason to buy a Steam Deck, we wouldn't recommend it. Steam has a huge platform with games of various genres.

Whether you're looking for the latest AAA title or an indie gem, the Steam Deck has it at different budgets and you can use your collection of games.

Call of Duty: Mobile... Reviewed!

To sum things up, COD: Mobile is amazing!

There is a good selection of guns (like a really good selection of guns) that don't seem overpowered. You get plenty of guns, nades, and more of those options are coming as the season's progress.

You will have to earn Battle Pass points by completing certain tasks & challenges in order to get access to the free Standard Battle Pass items. The other rewards will require you to upgrade to the Premium Battle Pass, which obviously unlocks better rewards. So you do get access to some of the better (looking) weapons, along with hero's like Season 2's Alex Mason but a good looking gun and better/different specs won't make or break a match if can't hit a target. So get in lots of practice vs bots!

The Premium Pass for Season 2 has rewards like Tier 10: AK-47 - Glacier, Tier 25: Ruin - Jade, Tier 60: Arctic .50 - Glacier, Tier 100: Epic M4 - CQB.

You get the standard touchscreen controls, but you also have the option of going traditional with a Bluetooth controller which is amazing for console players like me.

In comparison to the PC/Console gameplay, it doesn't skip a beat you're pulled right in. You start with the tutorial and then you go right into the multiplayer.

The game is a blast and contains familiar modes like zombies, team deathmatch, domination, and more. The fun factor doesn't stop there, even if some modes are more enjoyable than others but you get Event options also. It's the Holiday season right now, so you get events like the Candy Cane Collection, and Chasing Zombie Santa. There are more event options like One Shot One Kill, Multiplayer Weekly Challenges, Log-in Events, and New Player Login Rewards that you shouldn't miss if you're looking for an edge.

The game is better with friends, so connect for some fun.

The graphics look great on mobile, and you can change them if needed. If your phone or tablet can handle the best graphics, you can take advantage of them. If you can't take advantage, you can still play at a lower resolution so you aren't missing out. Win Win!

Here are the graphics at medium quality.

Replay value is basically the weekly challenges and other events that help you build up and unlock new weaponry, but also the standard multiplayer matches make you come back for more. You aren't going to have the same exact matches, no one is going to play the same exact way all the time. You win some, you lose some and this increases the incentive to come back and also improve your W/L ratio.

Gotta love those matches where your team feels like a lost cause vs a team ready for an eSports tournament!

You have Premium Pass and Premium Pass Plus. The basic Premium Pass is CP 800 and the Plus is CP 2000 (they have it listed as 80% off so I don't know the full price but 2000 is $24.99).

If you want to invest, invest, but if you want to take advantage of the freebies and the great multiplayer you can do that too (which I probably will be doing). Maybe after a while, you will be sold on buying something which is up to you and keeps the game available for all to enjoy. DLC ranges from $0.99 to $99.99.

I haven't found any downsides to the game just yet.

COD: Mobile is available now on Google Play and the App Store. Lock & load soldier!

Fun factor: 5 out of 5
Visuals: 4 out of 5
Replay Value: 5 out of 5
DLC price: 5 out of 5

I give it 4.75 out of 5 Cool Points!
