Quit Gaming? Why?!

It sounds bad, but I can agree that video game addiction isn't a good thing... but before you try to come at me (and force me to go all Bruce Leroy), I don't think that quitting gaming is the answer either. Woosah people... woosah!

A hobby doesn't have to be an addiction, there are casual gamers, hardcore gamers, professional gamers, and I guess the people who do more than their healthy share of gaming. Getting the addicts to game less and do other things might require cold turkey for some of the poor souls out there, but you can actually start with a timer.

I remember one of my friends was put on a game-timer by his mom. She didn't play, she had the system plugged into a timer and it would shut off. Imagine you're doing great in a game and everything just shuts off. (Momma no!) That sucked so bad, but... if you feel like you need to put a timer on that's an option. If you decide to put your children on a time, be fair and let it be a simple egg timer so they can save their progression, or... the money spent on the game will go to waste.

I think I was addicted at one point in my life. I know I was... but I found a happy medium with friends who motivated me to put down the controller and enjoy other things. We (well... Blu) talked about this already but the post was a year or two ago and I just feel like people like the Well Being Chief may have to pull it back some. If you game in moderation and you love it, why can't you play a video game?

One thing we promote is playing the types of games that work with your lifestyle. A busy bee can't work all the time and dedicated hours to Final Fantasy, but the busy bee has the right to dedicate an hour or two per week to enjoy his or her favorite game if they want. What's a life full of work without play? Grace mentioned that it's a break from reality for her.

What's the other side of not having time to smell the roses? That's straight-up depression in my opinion, and I believe that some people run into a midlife crisis because they didn't stop and enjoy once in a while. Being a grown-up doesn't mean a life of working every hour with no fulfillment. That's cap though because some adults aren't working all the time, some sleep in a lot when they aren't at work but a crap ton of people are on their phones too flipping through social media.

I call cap because (come on) it's not like that time is going to anything that's comparatively better than gaming. If we aren't playing single-player games (offline), we're playing multiplayer games interacting with other people doing something we enjoy doing while socializing. My idea of socializing isn't taking pictures of myself with filters to show my good side on camera just to wait around and see who likes and comments on them. We're enjoying some game time. I was thinking about this and I was going to add it to the top 10, but I wanted it to be separate.

Yes, you can put too much time into something, but just eliminating it isn't always good. You can eat too much fruit, but that doesn't mean you should stop eating fruit. Exercise your options, there are different types of games and some have hundreds of hours in gameplay but sports games are limited to a time clock. Fighting games are on a time clock. Racing games are based on the length of the track. Casual games can be picked up and played on your phone and when you close it, you can pick up where you left off if it's like Candy Crush.

It's up to you if you want to quit... that's up to you, but if you want to game on... you have the right to.
I don't think that some people realize they're gaming when they play Wordle, but... they are (ha).

First 30: Mighty Goose... the second coming of Metal Slug?!

Mighty Goose is like the second coming of Metal Slug... except with a goose. My first game on the Neo Geo Pocket Color was a Metal Slug game... and it looked and played beautifully. I don't want to make a 1st 30 of Mighty Goose an overall discussion about Metal Slug, but... it's hard not to. Everything about the game reminds me of Metal Slug and I honestly felt that there was a missed opportunity to bring back Metal Slug when the Nintendo 3DS was on fie.

Metal Slug fell into that hole where the only new installments that followed were actually just the same old titles released on new systems. I don't mind diving back in, but if they took another approach and increased the replay value... Metal Slug could've been a whole new animal powered up. Maybe one day we'll see it but in the meantime... I have to give Playism props for bringing this action arcade platformer to light. It's awesome.

Mighty Goose

Assume the role of Mighty Goose and bring the fight to the Void King. This galaxy conquering monarch commands a vast army of minions and mechanised monsters. Dealing with these baddies means traveling to distant worlds and facing all kinds of dangers. But not to worry, this is no problem for the legendary Mighty Goose!

Mighty Goose is a fast paced run & gun shooter starring a bounty hunter Goose. Use epic weapons and devastating warmachines to battle against screen filling bosses and hordes of enemies! Apart from that solid arcade formula, the game has a ton of crazy weapons, companions, upgrades and secrets for you to discover.

・Fast-paced run-and-gun experience with tight controls.
・Battle against screen filling bosses that will test your skill, timing, and dodging
・Customize your playing style using a combination of upgrade chips, secondary weapons and assist characters.
・Pilot devastating war-machine vehicles to decimate large groups of enemies.
・Beautifully crafted vibrant pixel art worlds, vehicles and characters.
・An amazing soundtrack featuring crunchy synth-rock and funky jazz-fusion melodies. Composed by Dominic Ninmark (Moonrider, Blazing Chrome, Gravity Circuit).

Top Audiences Last Week + PC Shipment Slump + PlayStation Tournaments!

Blu wanted to provide gameplay for this week's list, but he's down for the count after two days of helping a friend prep and move. I'll eat gummies in his honor... because it was brutally hot outside (momma no!). Before we just into the list of the top audiences, let's talk about the PC market's shipments from Gartner's list.

The PC market is going through some challenges right about now... with its sharpest decline in product shipments in about 9 years. While that may be true, it's nothing I believe anyone should (seriously) be... shocked about. When you have a pandemic + lockdowns + supply chain issues + resignations through the roof + sky-high gas prices + inflation + recession fears... I think it's safe to expect that to happen.

According to Gartner, Inc... HP had the biggest decline at -27.5%, Acer had a sizeable decline at -18.7%, and Lenovo was also down at -12.5% for their shipments. Apple was the only one up at 9.3%. I might be wrong, but... they gave manufacturing another chance in the US... which may have helped avoid one of the current issues. I believe this because Lenovo grew 2% partly because they improved their supply chain/access. Keep your eyes peeled for deals & discounts from these brands (Dell included).

The one listed here... isn't a joke, you can get a Lenovo Chromebook + headset for $89.

Now... it's Top 10-time baby, let's go!

Digital Grace: My Journey as a Filipina Gamer | Page 2

Hello, this is Grace again! This is page 2 of my experience as a Filipina gamer and how gaming has had a positive effect on me. If you missed page one, click here

Filipina gamers are often overlooked in the gaming industry, but this does not mean that their contributions go unnoticed. Through my own experience, I have learned about what it means to be a Filipina gamer and how playing games can positively affect my life.

How did gaming become my escape from reality?

When I was younger, playing games with friends and family had always been a part of my life. But as the years went on it became more important to find an escape from reality because life can get tough sometimes.

For me, gaming was always an escape from my reality. It gave me the opportunity for self-expression and creativity that wasn't possible in daily life with all its restrictions on what you can do or say because your family might not approve of how things will turn out. But instead, it forced players to take control of their own story where all the impossibles of the real world are possible in the digital world.

You can be whoever you want, do anything that tickles your fancy, and forget about the troubles in life for just one or more hours of playtime!

What video game changed my perspective in life?

When I was younger, my favorite video game to play would have been Super Mario Bros. I remember when Mario made his jump-out observation that life is all about staying ahead but if you don't keep moving forward then you lose out on the time provided to you.

This has turned true for me too because anytime there's a stagnation period (no pun intended) somewhere deep down inside me tells my brain to "stop”, think, and strategically proceed.

When you live life at a slower pace, the little moments that make up our everyday lives can take on new meaning. These simple pleasures bring joy and happiness to our hearts as well as productivity for work – which is why I recommend slowing down! Haste is wasteful, but a slow strategic approach leads to greater fulfillment because I was able to give my best effort.

Super Mario Bros is all about moving forward but there's no harm in stopping to discover new things along the way. You might even make new friends and grow in ways you didn't believe possible.

Final Thoughts

When I was younger, there were few Filipino gamers. But now with the rise in internet popularity and availability of video games like PUBG and Fortnite, it's not hard to find another gamer who shares your passions. It's a great way to connect and have a sense of belonging.

Video games have always been an important part of my life. They're something that helps me escape into another world, where anything is possible. The graphics are amazing and there's always new content being released which ensures you'll never run out of inspiration and fun times in between accomplishing goals.
