What exactly is... Townscaper?

If you don't know what Townscaper is... let me start by saying it's not exactly a game while being one. It's super casual, a chill & build... that kicks objectives, and just about anything else to the curb if it's not... click & create related.

In Townscaper, you go in armed with your finger, controller, or mouse to construct buildings, bridges, homes, stairways, lush backyards, arches, towers, and things like that. I can only imagine what ideas they have up their sleeve when it comes to updates. The game is a little addictive, to say the least, and you can certainly lose yourself in your creativity to the point that hours go by... but I challenged myself to do some 5 minute builds (for schedule's sake).

If you have a busy schedule and love games that allow you to build to your heart's content, check this one out. If you don't have time to flesh out your town because you have to get out the door or a call came into the office... no worries, you can pick right back up where you left off.

Anyway, click play below and check out my first project in... Townscaper.

I'm playing the game with a mouse, and the controls boil down to...

Controls
Left Mouse Button Click = Build
Right Mouse Button Click = Remove

Camera
Scroll Wheel Forward = Zoom In
Scroll Wheel Back = Zoom Out
Hold & Drag Left Mouse = 360 Camera Rotate
Hold & Drag Right Mouse = Camera Moves On X/Y Axis

If I could suggest one thing for this game... I would say that it should have people.
They can be simple, but I would like to see some moving around the towns that I construct for them. These aren't meant to be ghost towns, so that would be a nice touch, they have birds and other props that pop up based on the build so... why not people? This would be a nice update.

Morning Run: Genshin Impact - Let's Play 4

(That feedback is... whew, I need to ax my mic or my headset.)

Action Genre Generated $436M In H1 2021 – 104% Increase From H1 2020

Mobile games are the most lucrative segment of gaming and the lockdowns of 2020 resulted in a massive uptick in engagement. This momentum from 2020 seems to have carried over into 2021 as data from Sensor Tower shows widespread revenue growth for many mobile game genres in the US. Among all the major genres, the Action genre experienced the highest YoY revenue growth in H1 2021 compared to H1 2020 – 103.8%

The Action genre generated an estimated $435.7M in H1 2021 compared to an estimated $213.8M in H1 2020. Revenue from the Fighting subgenre generated the most revenue for the Action genre, amounting to $183.3M which is a 27.7% YoY increase. In terms of games, Genshin Impact was the largest revenue-generating action game after recording nearly $174M in player spending in the US for H1 2021.

The hyper-casual genre was the second-fastest-growing genre in terms of revenue after experiencing a 60.4% YoY growth from H1 2020 amounting to $59M. The third-fastest growing genre in H1 2021 was the Tabletop genre after experiencing YoY growth of 41.7% in H1 2021, amounting to almost $389M.

Saints Row is back... but

When it comes to Saints Row, the game that did it for me was Saints Row: The Third. It wasn't just this over-the-top sandbox that reminds me a heck of a whole lot of Grand Theft Auto, it was the cast of characters. I couldn't wait to progress and see what the crew was planning next, they had a Pimp on the team who spoke with auto-tunes.

Come on, just... come on! Johnny Gat, and even the other members of Saints Row. This is the squad that I enjoyed... and my head turned when I heard the announcement of a Saints Row reboot. I was excited. I thought that we would get a new story with more depth... that included more of the origin stories that brought the team we know and love... together.

Instead, this is the trailer that dropped.

Now that you've seen that, I want to start off by saying that I don't hate the game. At the time of this post... I have not played the game, it could be awesome and I will probably end up playing it, but there was a hard sigh because of the change in the cast.

Tomb Raider didn't ditch Lara Croft, why? The game wouldn't be the same without her, so apply that to the new Saints Row reboot. Don't ditch an awesome cast, they could have worked new wonders with the originals.

On the flip side, I have seen posts where people are calling the game... woke, and I have to say... that word is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo played out because it has gone from being used as a specific reason to being used for everything else that doesn't even apply. Like with this Saints Row reboot, what makes it... woke? Nothing in my eyes, it just feels like they modernized the cast of characters while trying to make sure they still have a pop of purple in their outfits. They're a group centered around organized crime and chaos, nothing about that is... woke.

So all I can say is let's see how things... play out. If it's good, it's good, if not... we may see them take the route of Capcom and... make their way back to the previous cast. I can't lie, when I saw the new cast I was like a dad walking in on their baby standing over a new gaming laptop... and it's broken. I wanted to yell... what did you do?! Overall, I won't completely dump on the game, it's mainly the cast as stated above... but I may grow to enjoy them (while looking for the first DLC that brings the old cast in for some nostalgic fun).
