New School Year Ice Breakers For Gamers

As the new school year approaches, it's important to help your children feel comfortable and confident as they enter a new environment. One of the best ways to break the ice and make new friends is to find common ground. While sports, music, and art are great options, don't overlook the power of gaming.

Gaming is a huge part of our culture, especially with the younger generations. Many students play video games, and it can be a great way to connect with others who share the same interests. Multiplayer games are particularly effective for icebreakers because they allow students to work together towards a common goal in a game they collectively enjoy or may desire to play.

We don't recommend taking your Switch to school, but the Tzowla Anti-Theft Backpack is a great way to protect it if you do.

There are many great multiplayer games suitable for children 10 and under. Here are the top 10 multiplayer games for this age group:

1. Minecraft: This sandbox game allows players to build and explore their own virtual world together.

2. Roblox: A popular platform where players can create and play games made by other users.

3. Among Us: A fun and engaging game of teamwork and deception.

4. Animal Crossing: New Horizons: In this game, players can create their own island and visit other players' islands.

5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: A classic racing game where players can compete against each other.

6. Splatoon 3: A colorful and fun shooter game where players compete in teams.

7. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: A fighting game where players can choose their favorite Nintendo characters and battle against each other.

8. Rocket League: A fast-paced game of soccer with rocket-powered cars.

9. Overcooked 2: A cooperative game where players have to work together to cook meals in a chaotic kitchen.

10. Fortnite: A popular battle royale game where players can compete against each other to be the last player standing.

Here are 10 popular multiplayer games for students ages 16 and under:

1. Fortnite: A popular battle royale game where players compete against each other to be the last player standing.

2. Minecraft: This sandbox game allows players to build and explore their own virtual world together.

3. Overwatch 2: A team-based shooter game that emphasizes teamwork and strategy.

4. Rocket League: A fast-paced game of soccer with rocket-powered cars.

5. League of Legends: A popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that emphasizes strategy and teamwork.

6. Rainbow Six Siege: A tactical shooter game where players must work together to complete objectives.

7. Apex Legends: A free-to-play battle royale game with unique characters and abilities.

8. Valorant: A team-based shooter game where players must work together to plant or defuse a bomb.

9. Among Us: A fun and engaging game of teamwork and deception.

10. Gunfire Reborn: A lighthearted yet challenging multiplayer shooting game.

Please note that these games have online interactions with strangers, so it's important to supervise children's gameplay and ensure that they are playing in safe and appropriate environments. Nintendo titles are fairly safe, and will usually prevent any inappropriate messaging from being shared. There are also private gaming servers for select games if you want to decrease the chances of your students interacting with unsavory characters, but if they game online already, just remind them to report abuse.

Multiplayer games are a fun and engaging way for students to work together and get to know each other better. They'd have something to talk about while at school, including multiplayer events and updates. This is also a great way to get them to finish their homework and chores as soon as possible to increase their game time with friends.

"I wanted to tuck this in, just as a reminder. While gaming can be a great ice breaker, it's a good idea for them to keep kindness and consideration in mind. Encourage your children to be as respectful and accepting of other students of different cultures... just as much as they'd like to be accepted (live and let live). Everything certainly doesn't have to be accepted, but differences aren't the same as unacceptable behaviors like bullying other students.

Believe it or not, common-ground hobbies like... gaming, could actually decrease things like bullying if certain students desire to take part in a collective activity (and don't want to miss out on the fun). There are students who would seek to flip this though and get pretty good students to break bad for the sake of joining in on their fun, but... it's not worth it. There should be other students available to game with, even if it means connecting with other parents in your area or perhaps an online group... and your children connect via online games." Blu

Here are 5 additional icebreakers that teachers and students can use for the new school year:

1. Two Truths and a Lie: Each student takes a turn introducing themselves and telling the group three statements about themselves - two true and one a lie. The group then has to guess which statement is the lie.

2. The Name Game: Students introduce themselves and choose an adjective that starts with the same letter as their name. For example, "I'm Funny Fiona." Then, the next student repeats the previous name and adds their own, like "Funny Fiona and Super Sam."

3. Find Someone Who: Each student gets a sheet with a list of characteristics or experiences, such as "Find someone who has a pet" or "Find someone who has traveled outside of the country." They then have to walk around and find someone who fits each characteristic.

4. Human Knot: Students form a circle and take hands with two different people across the circle. They then have to work together to untangle themselves without letting go of each other's hands.

5. Scavenger Hunt: Give students a list of items to find or tasks to complete around the classroom or school in a set time. For example, "Find a book with a red cover" or "Take a selfie with the principal."

These icebreaker activities are fun and engaging ways to help students get to know each other and build connections as they start the new school year. Teachers will often have an activity prepared for the entire class to break the ice. As long as students participate, it increases the chance of them breaking the ice and warming up quickly. Adding a timer will introduce a challenge that gamers will love.

In conclusion, the new school year can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking time for students. Using gaming as an icebreaker for individual connections can be a great way to help your children feel more comfortable and confident in their new environment. With options like "Among Us" and "Splatoon," students can work together towards a common goal and build lasting friendships. Just remember to keep kindness and consideration at the forefront of all interactions.

Best Nintendo Switch Games For Family Fun: Animal Crossing - New Horizons

Gaming as a family is a great way to bond and spend quality time together. It also gives parents a chance to enjoy game time with their children and make memories that will last a lifetime. Gaming can be a great way to teach kids about teamwork, problem-solving, and competition in a healthy and fun way. In addition to games relieving stress and delivering fun, there are some that provide other benefits that most movies & TV shows don't deliver.

In the case of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, your children also learn about money management, which is a great thing to instill in them at an early age. So, next time you're looking for a fun way to spend some quality family time, break out the controllers and give family gaming a try with Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons might come off to some as this single-player game where you interact with a bunch of NPC (non-playable characters), but... you'd be wrong. In addition to the online experience, you can also play with 4 people via the same system or up to 8 people via local wireless on individual Nintendo Switch systems.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you start off on a deserted island with a little team making the experience as smooth as possible for you. You will have to explore, collect items, create tools, etc. Over time your island will go from being not so deserted to the island everyone's writing home about.

This game had to be added to this list, because other players not only have the ability to start a game on their own island, but they can also start on yours. While it's cool to visit other islands and see what's popping, it's really awesome to have that community experience where your family's on the same island working together. It introduces an interesting dynamic where you might find yourselves talking about new announcements and developments based on something one or all of you have accomplished.

It's good to have this one in your library because it's a shared experience, even though you have your individual accomplishment to tackle. So even if someone was unable to enjoy a multiplayer session (maybe they were sick and getting as much rest as possible), they're going to be able to see all the updates. Even if you aren't under the weather, and it's just one of those games family members play here and there when you aren't indulging in family fun gaming, It's a cool experience worth sharing as a family. One thing that I've done with this game is talking to my daughter even more regarding money management.

In the game, you will have a home loan that you need to pay off, and I explained to her how it's similar to real life. Even in terms of just saving bells and not spending them all, it puts you in a better position to get other in-game items that you may really like. So if you come across something that you think would prove to be useful advice to your little gamer, this could be a great game to use as an example (bonding + teaching + gaming).

- Build your community from scratch on a deserted island brimming with possibility

- Create your personal getaway and customize your character, home, decorations, and even the landscape itself

- Collect materials to construct everything from furniture to tools! Then, use what you create to give your island a personal touch

- Watch as the time of day and seasons match real life- even your hemisphere! Each day holds the potential for surprises and discoveries

- Get to know the island residents, garden, fish, decorate, hunt for fossils, and more!

- Show off your paradise- play on the same system with a total of 4 people, or play together online or over local wireless for fun with up to 8 players

I wanted to include the things this game offers because it's not an action game or anything of the sort (unless you're chasing sea creatures down), but it's gameplay that my family loves.

This game is rated E for Everyone!

Updates from Nintendo... which include no NX at E3 2016! Momma no!

No NX at this years E3? #%*!

Yesterday our bubble was popped... because Nintendo's update included that there will be no Nintendo NX action at E3. If they are going to skip one of the biggest gaming expos... there better be a good reason and they'd better come out with guns blazing for will be presented.

When it comes to the NX itself, its coming March of 2017... which is cool and we have something to look forward to beyond E3 2016 by way of Nintendo Direct... but they have to seriously think about their approach this time around. If they desire those PS4 numbers, the system is going to have to be awesome and centered around gaming for all. It was centered around gaming for people of all ages... but it was hard to tell based on the delivery a good chunk of the time (as well as placing multiple games in a category listed as "Games for Kids" or some crap... if you're a frequent reader of our posts then this should ring a bell because it was an annoying "WTF" moment).

I don't want to see any company fail, especially if it means more options for us as gamers... so I wish them the best in hopes that they play their Pokemon cards right! :p
On the flip side of the NX not being at E3 this year, I can see that being something done to avoid the system being picked apart in a negative way without them explaining it well on their on terms (they just have to explain themselves well... because they hold the cards). Also I could see them trying to get the remaining life out of the Wii U before the focus shifts.

From what we know, The Legend of Zelda will be released simultaneously for the Wii U and NX game systems... and will be one of the only (if not the only) game Nintendo showcases at E3 this year based the information provided. The Wii U version will be playable. Check out the information from Nintendo below.

Nintendo changes its approach to the show every year. This June, Nintendo will focus its attentions on the upcoming game in The Legend of Zelda franchise. The Wii U version of the game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, and it will be the only playable game Nintendo presents at the show, in order to provide attendees a complete immersion. Additional information about Nintendo’s E3 plans will be announced in the future. - Nintendo | REDMOND, Wash., April 27, 2016

Though we'd love to see more... as long as the attention is going towards good things, its fine with me and almost feels like something 3rd party developers do. 3rd party developers don't always show up at E3 with multiple games to play... some only have one in hopes that it gets enough love to be successful. Let's see how this goes.

By the way, Nintendo is also celebrating over 10 million downloads of Miitomo starting tomorrow April 29th - May 8, 2016. While I am on the subject of... Miitomo, something i'd love for Nintendo to do is to allow us to connect with people through Google+ also (the app is on Android, so... it kind of makes sense). Even the ability to connect with your phone book would be cool because you're using the app on your phone, but that's just me and multiple people who are still wondering around digitally with no one to talk to.

Nintendo didn't only drop that bit of news... they lit things back up with the mention of their next mobile apps, which are for Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. The plan is for a fall release on both of these games. They want to make Fire Emblem more accessible by delivering a mobile experience, while Animal Crossing sounds like it will allow you to play on mobile and console. Nintendo will obviously deliver more info about these apps as fall approaches, but they could be planning even more apps moving forward as they aim to have multiple types of "...apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players". I hope this translates over to the NX.

Fun fact: Did you know that Nintendo of America owns a percentage of the Seattle Mariners? Although yesterday they mentioned that they are selling the majority, they are maintaining 10%.

I'll end this post with some StarFox Zero animated short action... and if you remember the previous games (especially Star Fox 64), you'll probably enjoy SFZ. Its a blast from the past... but its new at the same time. An all-new Star Fox adventure should be released on the NX going even deeper in depth with visuals, story and action.
We're heading out... all aircraft report!
