Official Release of Artifice: War Tactics | August 16, 2024

Chennai, India – August 16th, 2024 – Today Silvine Game Studios is thrilled and excited to announce the full PC Steam release today (16th August) of  their  polished and challenging turn-based strategy game, Artifice: War Tactics! The release marks four years of dedicated focus to produce a title that will excite fans of turn based strategies everywhere!

Unleash your tactical prowess in a mediaeval fantasy world where survival depends on thwarting enemy ambushes with an array of champions at your disposal. Defeat powerful bosses to conquer strongholds and lead your army to victory!

My Initial Impression:

If you enjoy strategy games with roguelike elements that deliver action in a board game-like setup, then Artifice: War Tactics might be right up your alley. What really captivated me was the intensity brought on by the limited movement. While the concept isn’t entirely new to me, the unique movement mechanics—where characters can move straight forward, at an angle, or side to side with a step or two forward—present a challenge I haven’t encountered in quite some time. It reminded me of chess. You have to carefully consider your approach because you only have so many shards, and to secure victory, it’s crucial to conserve as many as possible.

I haven’t yet explored any complex strategic combos, but I’ve managed to use neutral enemies in the environment to attack the opposition. I’m eager to see how many combinations can be strung together, as some of the enemies are quite formidable, not to mention the bosses. Enough talk—check out the First 30 of Artifice: War Tactics:

Game Highlights

  • Innovative Combat: Asymmetric Combat system allowing for strategic combinations and synergies. Positioning your champions is crucial, as each unit has specific movement and attack patterns. Tactical positioning can turn the tide of battle, making it essential for players to plan their moves carefully.

  • Dynamic Environments: The biome hazards come in four types: Sandworm, Frost Wraith, Poison Ivy, and Floating Rune. They can be both dangerous and useful. Hitting enemies near these hazards causes additional damage, but taking a hit near them can result in losing a shard (life). Master tacticians will need to use these hazards wisely to gain an advantage.

  • Challenging Gameplay: Each unit has unique traits and abilities, with boss battles unlocking new islands. Every hit counts, and if you lose all your lives, you'll have to restart—true to its roguelike nature.

FTS: Ladybug and Cat Noir are back in... Miraculous: Paris Under Siege + My Thoughts!

Fight Evil Together in Miraculous: Paris Under Siege, Launching on Consoles & PC This October

Ladybug and Cat Noir leap into their most daring adventure yet in this solo and co-op action-adventure platformer!

MINNEAPOLIS  Aug. 16, 2024 – Announced today, Miraculous: Paris Under Siege is an all-new third-person action-adventure platformer inspired by the beloved animated television series Miraculous™ - Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, launching later this year on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. Embark on a thrilling adventure where heroism, acrobatic combat, and stunning parkour collide as Shadow Moth unleashes a wave of villains across the city. It’s up to Ladybug and Cat Noir to save the day!

My Thoughts:

As we gear up to rescue Paris once again from the clutches of Shadow Moth, who this time controls the ruthless... Stormy Weather with ancient Egyptian powers, my fingers are crossed. You’ll battle akumatized villains from the series as the heroic Ladybug and Cat Noir in an all-new original story. Use unique abilities, master epic combos, and traverse the city of Paris with parkour finesse on your own or with seamless drop-in, "drop-out" local co-op with a friend. Yes, I quoted "drop-out". If you know... you know, and it has everything to do with the first installment.

While the description sounds exciting, I have some reservations. Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx was clunky and lacked split-screen functionality when players split up, making it easy to fall off rooftops when off-screen... a lot (ahhhhhhhhh!). This shouldn’t have to be an issue; they should show the other player’s icon on the opposite side and teleport or respawn the player to their partner when the time is right. This could bring them back into the full screen (tada!). Additionally, I hope the long, drawn-out character scripts are replaced with more appealing content like... cutscenes or at least add in voiceovers!

I want Miraculous: Paris Under Siege to feel like a true 2024 release with significant improvements over Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx. Developers need to fix the camera issues and ensure co-op gameplay is smooth, with both players respawning correctly. Kids might tolerate some flaws, but everyone appreciates effort and quality. Hopefully, the dev team has researched other 3D platforming titles to get a solid idea of how to excel, especially with couch co-op in mind.

The goal is to get people excited for the next release, not to brace themselves in hopes that it’s better. That’s a fair expectation... right? Fingers... still crossed.

Key Features:

  • Legendary Heroes Unite: Play as Ladybug and Cat Noir, each with their own stylish combat moves, and switch seamlessly between them. Call upon your fellow heroes like Rena Rouge, Carapace, and others during battle to turn the tide with coordinated attacks!
  • Master the Martial Arts: Execute agile combos on the ground and in mid-air, harnessing the full spectrum of Ladybug and Cat Noir’s abilities to defeat your enemies in high-flying style.
  • Fight Fearsome Foes: Face off against classic villains from the series, each posing unique challenges. From The Bubbler and Lady WiFi to Truth and Sole Crusher, you’ll need to adapt your tactics to counter their powers and save Paris.
  • Stylish Acrobatics: Use amazing parkour moves such as swinging, rail slides, and wall jumps to navigate the Parisian landscape, uncover secrets and outmaneuver enemies!
  • Customize Your Playstyle: Enhance your heroes’ abilities by earning experience to upgrade your traits: Life, Speed, Damage, Assist Energy, and Evade. Tailor your abilities to your preferred style and maximize your impact in battles.
  • Save the Day: Liberate Paris one district at a time, choosing your path through non-linear gameplay that encourages exploration and strategy. Restore light and hope to each corner of the city besieged by Shadow Moth’s dark influence.
  • Couch Co-op Adventures: Battle alongside a friend with seamless drop-in, drop-out local co-op and experience the thrill of saving Paris together.

School Is Back In Session: Let's Break The Ice with Games... and then some!

Back to School: Embrace the New Year with Positivity and Action

School’s back in session, and... I know (I know) some of you might be feeling a bit bummed out because the trips are over along with the long days and late night fun (excluding weekends). But hey... it’s just a part of life (again... excluding weekends). The plus side? You get to see your friends again and dive into new adventures together.

Some of you need a bit more encouragement than that... especially at a new school, in a new class, with new classmates you don't know from a can of paint on the other side of the planet, but... talking about video games can be a great ice breaker.

Ask fellow students what their top 5 videogames are. Teachers can even have their students present their top 5 video games and present team building ice breakers like something I call... CLASS VS TIME: This came to mind because it would get the students involved and working together to figure out the answer to brain teasers or other questions (i.e. Math problems) before the time runs out. The reward could be an idea the teacher comes up with that allows the students to look forward to something fun on Fridays... or something.

If it were me (hehe)... I'd have the weekly brain teasers also result in students being able to play a simple game (i.e. Pac-Man 256 or Crossy Road) if they solve all the brain teasers. If they can solve them every week, they can either walk away with a treat bi-weekly... or pizza once per month (gotta have a budget for such a thing)! I might even give a treat bi-weekly + pizza once per month if the students reach a certain collective score in the game to unlock pizza for the month. Can you... imagine... the excited they'd have if they reach that combined score together? That's the feeling I'd go for, and... I love pizza, so I'd be on the side like a proud coach.

Over the summer, we spoke to parents, including the grandmother of a kid who was being bullied. Bullying is far from... cool, and I remember those random kids who tried to make school difficult for a number of us. It’s crucial that we encourage our school districts, schools, principles, and teachers to decrease tolerance for bullying. Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported on their journey through school life.

Parents, Your Role is Vital

Parents, make it a point to know the principal and have a presence at your child’s school. If the school knows you won’t hesitate to show up and address issues like bullying, they’ll be more motivated to find solutions. Don’t let your kids suffer in silence, let them know that the truth can bring solutions.

Schools and Teachers, Step Up

Schools have the power to remind students regularly to keep their hands to themselves, show respect, and aim to be great. Implementing a reward system for good behavior can also help curb bullying, as students won’t want to miss out on the rewards. Offering second chances and encouraging students to... make things right, can show bullies that they can change and do something positive. This can truly go along way, and good guidance counselor can play their part by showing them that there are opportunities ahead if they don't get in their own way. This is actually a message that can apply to all students.

Teachers can also play a significant role by creating a supportive classroom environment. From what I remember, our teachers had more flexibility to implement such systems if they wanted to, and it made a difference when it came to those who cared.

Embrace the New School Year

So, now that school is back in session for students, encourage them to have a fun and amazing year. Learn lots, especially about the things that elevate their talents and prepare them for the road ahead. You can implement milestones so they can see the progress in a fun way. If they find great interest in something, there are courses they can take that can elevate their skills without going to college, and it doesn't require them to be out of school either. If they're able to comprehend what's being taught, it's another tool in their arsenal that can open their eyes to their own potential and make them career ready before they even walk across the stage (students do it via dual enrollment). So remind them to be great + have fun in the process, enjoy their family and friends + game on!

Remember, school is a place for growth, learning, and making memories. It's good for students to figure problems out to a degree, but in terms of bullying when it comes to a school structure that's similar to a company. You can't just knock someone out, you have to go up the chain of command and respect their authority, so it's up to the authority to make a positive impact. Outside of that, if you have things that come to mind that you can contribute to your child's school to make the year that much cooler... see if it's possible or see if you can fund it or even chip in to help them fun it up even more. Let’s work together to make it a safe and positive experience this school year!
