The Ultimate RPG Character Backstory Guide... will get you moving in the right direction in more ways than one.

This book is a great character booster for RPG gaming kits and should increase your interest in the actual game. It takes your character backstory to the next level by way of giving you a guide to follow when it comes to developing the life of your character. You even have idioms.

Based on where your character's level is, there are various tasks ranging between 1 - 5... like winning a bar fight. Levels 6 - 10... includes a scenario like Unseat a corrupt governor. Levels 11 - 15 includes... having your actions declared miraculous, etc. There are other things to do in these levels, but... you get the idea.

It's not only for your main character either... you also have your companions that have their experiences, personalities, and actions that affect other members of the party + situation. There is a situation involving a character losing something valuable, you decide on how they lost it (based on your experience with them). Did they lose it out of carelessness, robbed, etc.

You can even classify your villains. There are a hundred narratives in this book to fill the blanks on, prompts, and more... so you should be pleased if this is your sort of thing. (It goes beyond that for me.) There are so many things in this 272-page guide to flesh out a world, your characters, and more... which brings me to another reason I am doing a review. There are developers looking for ways to create characters for games, writers looking for ways to develop characters for books, and even scripts for shows and movies. I think this book is one heck of a tool to help with that because you aren't just coming up with a character with a vague backstory... this book has the right amount of depth to help you develop intriguing characters without them being... cookie cutter.

You don't have to necessarily follow the scenarios in the book either, but they're helpful. So while it benefits fans of (tabletop) RPGs by adding some oomph to their RPG experience, it can work wonders for character development in your own projects. Think about it... put you through the paces to really know these characters so they can benefit you in other ways.

It comes in paperback like I have... + an eBook. I recommend paperback to those of you who like to play tabletop RPGs while roughing it on a camping trip or something where electricity is used at a minimum. Some of you just prefer paperback... and that works too (I'm in a similar boat, I won't read eBooks as often). This will run you $14.99 on the publisher's website, while the eBook comes in at $10.99. I haven't used the eBook version, but it would be cool if they had active buttons to press based on your decisions made (not saying it does or does not, but it would be cool if it does).

Overall, I think this is a really cool book for those of you that enjoy RPG kits, but... I think its also a great tool for (aspiring) character developers. The price is right for either use, but... if you can get dual use of it it, that's even better... which is why I thought to share the idea.

What happened? The global Minecraft community of 91 million people each month (!!!) tuned in to celebrate MINECON Earth 2018 today, which was loads of fun! We announced some BIG NEWS and shared a first look at what’s to come later in 2018 and beyond, and have recapped the best-of-the-best moments for your reading pleasure below.

What’s the news?

• NEW GAME! – Yes, we introduced a whole new PC game from Mojang coming in 2019 – Minecraft: Dungeons! It’s an action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, where players will explore canyons, swamps, and – of course – mines! There will be new-and-nasty mobs, weapons and items to discover, and the option to either go it alone or with friends on this action-packed adventure. Minecraft: Dungeons something of a passion project from a small dedicated team, but it’s the first big step in the Minecraft’s franchise’s expanded direction – creating new experiences for our community to enjoy!

• The Village and Pillage Update is Coming – Jens ‘Jeb’ Bergensten took to the stage and talked about the next big update to Minecraft, which will give our villages a massive makeover and introduce a new threat in the form of a hostile mob, the Pillagers! Rather than update things here and there, we’re going to release one bit-impact update each year that will expand a different part of the game. Which brings us to the next bullet…

• The Taiga Biome is Getting Updated – During MINECON Earth 2018, we left it to the community to vote and decide which Minecraft biome would receive a major makeover first – either the Northern forest of the Taiga, the dry Deserts, or the plains of the Savanna. And the winner was…Taiga!! We’re so excited to see the updates to Taiga – in particular, the super-cute foxes – but don’t worry, we’re still going to update the other two at a later time! 

• Cute Mobs Incoming – Are you a cat person or a panda person? …well, it doesn’t matter because they’re both being added to Minecraft later this year! We’re super excited to be bringing these two fun, adorable mobs to the game. We even went to the Chimlong Park in Guangzhou, China to record audio for the pandas in-game, and are going to be immortalizing one of our community’s cats as a variant of the mob. <3 <3 <3

Eximius: Seize the Frontline

 

DESCRIPTION

Eximius is a Strategic Action Shooter (FPS/RTS Hybrid) that focuses on squad-based combat.


Eximius combines tactical First Person Shooter gameplay with high-level strategic decision-making of a Real-time Strategy(RTS) game. The game features a competitive 5v5 team battles where players square off in a post-apocalyptic urban environment.

Play as a Commander ( RTS); build bases, train an army and call down support abilities to help your allies on the ground to gain territory. 

Play as an Officer ( FPS); lead your infantry squad into combat and crush your enemies with your agile tactics or brute force. Capture resources for your team, upgrade weapons and equip your squad with suitable weapons.

Gameplay

Eximius provides a multi-role gameplay experience where each player could choose to play a diversely different role and fight not only with brawns but also with their brains. An expert shooter could be outnumbered, ambushed and overwhelmed if caught in a wrong position. While a scheming officer could be assassinated in the right moment at the frontline.

Objectives
The objective of the gameplay is to win by holding down the most victory points. Alternatively, if your forces are powerful enough, you can completely destroy your enemy’s base and win the match immediately. The command headquarters cannot be rebuilt and the game will be instantly over.


Factions

Axeron Corporation ( AXR )
AXR is a private research organization that turned into a security contractor out of global needs. Being at the forefront of science, many believe that this wealthy organization holds key technologies that could bring about global peace. With limited manpower, the Axeron industrial complex produces highly advanced drones for their workforce, both for military and nonmilitary use. This elusive organization operates in an extremely organized and stealthy manner. Nations that choose to fund AXR do so for their advanced scientific capability and confidence that they will be the solution to the growing mutant threat.

Global Security Force ( GSF )
A peacekeeping organisation set up after the first initial great war; the GSF foundation is built upon the principles of securing the walls, recovering human survivors and rebuilding the civilized world. They command the largest military force in the world and operates on a near limitless budget. Nations that choose to fund GSF do so for their vast armies and their global presence. 

Features

Seamless Transition
As a commander, you are also an officer. But you have the extra capability to switch to top-down RTS interface to build bases and command units. An aggressive commander can also join the battle in the front line but they are normally expected to stay in relative safety and manage base development. Commander needs to be nominated by the team.
Base Building

As the gameplay of Eximius revolves around Team vs Team battles, each team shares a base, resource and technology tree. RTS Commander to support the battle operations by training infantry units and vehicles, building bases and call in airstrikes or support abilities. 


Train Armies
Commander can train AI infantry and assign them to players. Leading them as a frontline officer; your squad will fight with you sensibly, taking cover and help you both offensively and defensively. 


Tactical Battles
Decide your combat roles and purchase weapons suitable to your play style and tactics. Your weapon and equipment determine your roles in the team. Respond to enemy strategy with appropriate firepower and equipment; be it vehicles, a massive amount of infantry or sneaky players. 


Unlock Technologies
As your resources and technology grow, you can construct increasingly powerful units such as armored vehicles, gunships, and elite soldiers. Your team can also gain powerful team abilities when you tech up to new tiers. Call down artillery, deploy quick-response force or launch EMP strikes. 


BattleSuits

The pinnacle of each team’s firepower is the legendary battle-suit. Equipping battlesuits allow players to use powerful abilities, have increased stats and is able to push the frontline much faster. Officers will have the option between several choices of battlesuits, each with their own play style and set of abilities.
