Dear Developers: Amazon Game Studios could help... Luna Premium + 3 Free Months of Fun!

I'm not one to dump on the Luna Standard included with Prime (this has nothing to do with that), but when it comes to the Luna Premium... I can throw out a critique or two, especially with the 3rd party platforms being pulled. It's done, Ubisoft, EA, and GOG are gone in that capacity (either they go through Luna without being an add-on fee or nothing). That's whatever, but... now what, Amazon?

You have Amazon Game Studios, and just like Microsoft has games coming out exclusively on the Xbox, along with PlayStation tightening up on exclusivity... where does that leave Luna? It's not a horrible tier, but if they want more people to subscribe to the Premium side for $9.99/month... they should make more Amazon games for the premium as well. That increases the incentive to dive in at an additional cost beyond what's included with prime. And anyone reading this who has met me in person... knows that I've mentioned Luna at least once to get you gaming again, they just have to get premium together is all.

By the way (as you see above), for Prime users who used the standard platform, check your email to see if you were offered 3-months of Luna Premium for free (offer expires September 8, 2026). Might as well enjoy it, because you will get access to games like Borderlands 3, Madden 26, and more. If nothing grabs your attention beyond what's included with prime, that should tell Amazon that they need to release some new first party heat on that end.

While you're in premium... there are plenty of games to play, especially when compared to Xbox Game Pass at it's lowest tier, but where are the premium experiences compliments of Amazon?
You see what I'm saying? Now... Amazon Game Studios is making exclusive games for Amazon Luna, and having those free options like the new Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite is great... but they should have gems that make premium worth it too.

 Amazon x Indie Exclusives

This could be a door that Amazon can open to indie devs interested in releasing titles on the platform, which can be exclusive for a limited time even. Indie devs will have solid games but lack the capital to cross the finish line... more often than some may realize, so platforms like Luna could be a viable move.

That would sweeten the pot, and it doesn't have to be online games. (Not every game has to be multiplayer.) I think those single player experiences would prevent a clock from being placed on a title the way it does with multiplayer games, because the newness wears off with a number of games before members of the player base look for something new. It would have to be a game that motivates them to stick and stay... which is why Fortnite games are on Luna standard and have been on the platform for quite some time.

Off the top of my head, a title I would consider for... Luna Premium would be Sega's Renegade Ops, (released in 2011) which is a twin stick vehicle based shooter (developed by Avalanche Studios).

It was a very fluid top-down adventure that delivered an awesome single player experience as well as couch co-op action (+ 4-player online fun). The game can be remastered (at minimum) or (preferably) we can get a full-blown remake with multiple campaigns they can drop season after season. This would make the most sense and would keep premium subscribers coming back to buckle up for more.

Speaking of Sega and vehicle based games... Crazy Taxi World Tour would also work by giving those without a console or PC access to the cross-platform action. It's not an experience where it's a one off... you're racking up scores to best the competition. The original Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast was through the roof, and there would be no difference on Luna Premium. It would be up to Amazon to get more active and actually fight for gems while creating their own.

There are those games out there that Amazon could consider, but single player experiences will fit a limited time exclusive much better when it comes to new releases. Again, if its multiplayer... make sure it's cross platform friendly and I think that would be a great approach. By the way, not calling this a gem but... why isn't Invisible VS on Luna?! The show is an Amazon Original... so why not add the game to the party or... deliver some sort of Invincible platformer... or something?

Going back to Amazon Game Studios, they're also working on new Tomb Raider games. Would I argue if they're on the standard Luna? Of course not, but if they're not available during the initial release date... it would make sense (for Luna standard). That said, if they're not on Luna premium during a reasonable window... that would be a real head scratcher. They're heading to PS5, Xbox, and PC with Legacy Of Atlantis coming in FEB 2027... so yeah, don't neglect your own "Premium" platform, pal!

Tomb Raider Catalyst will be coming at some point in 2027, but there's no specific release date. Could be planned for late 2027 in Q3 or Q4 to give LoA some breathing room. Speaking of Tomb Raider, Gamers(!), you can play the previous trilogy on Luna right now... absolutely free! So that's some good news to round things out.

So grab your Luna controller (especially if you don't have a console or a PC) and make this summer a... Summer of Gaming! Especially since you can game from anywhere. If you don't have a controller or want to grab an additional one... don't sleep on the Luna Wireless Bundle that comes with headphones!

This will allow you to play anywhere on your PC, TV, Phone or Tablet! If you don't have a Fire TV, just grab an Amazon Fire TV stick!

Tanuki: Pon's Summer (Demo) Is Cozy Chaos on Two Wheels | Summer Of Gaming

Summer is all about finding those games that make you smile the second they hit the screen, and Tanuki: Pon's Summer [Steam Demo] lands firmly in the category of being of those titles.

The first thing that caught my attention wasn't the colorful world, or the charming characters. It was more like, "Wait... is that a tanuki pulling off some X Games stunts on a bike?"

Yes. Yes, it is.

And somehow, that sentence only scratches the surface of what this game has going on.

Tanuki: Pon's Summer puts players in control of Pon, a lovable tanuki who spends the summer exploring, delivering packages, helping locals, and pulling off BMX tricks across a vibrant Japanese-inspired countryside. The result is a game that feels equal parts adventure, life simulation, and arcade-style action.

Want to see what all the fuss is about? Check out my gameplay footage below and join me as I take Pon for a spin through this wonderfully weird summer adventure (demo).

 Dreamcast Vibes

Oddly enough, the entire experience gave me some serious Dreamcast vibes. Especially when the music kicks up with rock once you're on the bike... grinding in more ways than one.

Maybe it's the bright colors. Maybe it's the quirky personality. Maybe it's the way the game isn't afraid to be weird and wonderful at the same time. Whatever the reason, it reminded me of the era when developers were constantly experimenting with creative ideas that made you stop and say, "I've never played anything quite like this before."

The BMX riding feels great, and there are plenty of opportunities to catch air, pull tricks, and zip through the environment. At the same time, there's a cozy atmosphere wrapped around everything like a warm summer blanket. You're never overwhelmed, but you're never bored either.

It's a unique balance.

Anime fans will appreciate the animations, playful energy and colorful presentation. BMX gamers will enjoy hopping on two wheels and exploring every corner of the map. Fans of Japanese games will probably find themselves completely charmed by the setting and its quirky cast of characters.

And if somebody happens to walk by while you're playing, don't be surprised if they stop, point at the screen, and ask:

"Is that a tanuki on a bike delivering packages?"

Again, the answer is yes. If they say racoon, technically that wouldn't be accurate but... it's all good.

The demo offers a solid taste of what the developers are cooking up and gives players a chance to get familiar with Pon's world before the full release arrives. From what I've seen so far, the complete game looks ready to take things to a whole notha level. (Seriously.)

The demo already feels packed with personality, but the full game appears ready to expand the world, activities, and adventures even further as you prepare the shrine for the big festival!

 The Full Adventure Awaits

If the demo leaves you wanting more, you're not alone. Thankfully, the full release looks ready to crank up the fun, the exploration, and the BMX action in a big way.

Check out the official trailer below to see what's coming next.

Tanuki: Pon's Summer is shaping up to be one of those games that combines charm, creativity, and pure summer vibes into something memorable. Whether you're here for the BMX tricks, the cozy atmosphere, the anime-inspired energy, or simply because you want to see a tanuki riding a bicycle, this is definitely a demo worth checking out during Summer Of Gaming.

NBA THE RUN – Streetball Is Back, Louder and More Electric Than Ever?

When Play by Play Studios said they were “taking it back to the streets,” they meant it. NBA THE RUN, launched June 9, 2026, and it's shaping up to be a nice revival shot at arcade‑style basketball reminiscent of NBA Street. Fast‑paced 3v3 action, iconic real‑world courts, and a roster stacked with NBA superstars all collide in a game built for highlight‑hunters, competitive grinders, and anyone who misses the style of early‑2000s... streetball.

Speaking of Streetball (or Black Basketball as it was called back then), came to life via Edwin E.B. Henderson (the Grandfather of Black Basketball). He was also the first Black male P.E. teacher and introduced his students to the game back in 1904. This took place in Washington D.C., although it's easy to assume it was New York. He actually established a wide scale... Interscholastic Athletic Association as well to have competitive leagues, which is where the Washington 12 Streeters came from. His 12 Streeter team consisted of former Howard University + local YMCA students who washed the competition by going undefeated for a whole season in the Colored Basketball World Championship.

When it comes to New York, I know some of you might be thinking of the Harlem Globetrotters, but... they were only called that by name. It was to tie in the Harlem Renaissance, but they were actually from Chicago... and hit the scene in the 1920s. They didn't play a game in Harlem, NY until the late 1960s!

So I wanted to stop and drop a little about the origin behind streetball. Now let's game! This is my third session with NBA The Run, and we were getting it in... there are some dogs online (vicious):

The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, with full cross‑play and two editions:

  • Standard – $29.99

  • Deluxe – $39.99 (includes rookie variants of Curry, Luka, KD + 1000 CRED)

A Game Built by Hoop Purists

Play by Play Studios is a small but veteran‑heavy team featuring developers who previously worked on major EA and Visceral titles. Their mission is simple: revive the feel of handcrafted arcade basketball—fluid, stylish, and personality‑driven.

They’ve been transparent about their inspirations, openly calling NBA THE RUN a spiritual successor to the classics. And from the gameplay, they’re not exaggerating.

What’s New Since the Open Beta

The team has made sweeping improvements based on community feedback. Here’s everything updated for launch:

Gameplay & Mechanics

  • Kyrie Irving added to the roster

  • 9 new dribble/style animations for deeper combo chains

  • Reduced goaltending frequency near the rim

  • Shorter blocking reach for elite shot blockers

  • Lower AI shove rates to reduce cheap physicality

  • Improved self off‑the‑backboard alley‑oop success

  • Slower ball speed off the rim + higher friction for more realistic rebounds

  • Polished jumpshot, dive, and general animations

  • Revised dribble‑move audio for cleaner feedback

Systems & Stability

  • Fixed Rank & XP display issues

  • Fixed stat‑swapping and MVP‑swapping bugs

  • Tuned player ratings

  • Rebalanced rulesets for more variety between rounds

  • Fixed end‑of‑game crash tied to stat reporting

These changes directly address the most common beta complaints—especially defensive imbalance, rebounding chaos, and animation inconsistencies. Although there are still some issues with screen transitions and animations at times.

Gameplay: Fast, Fluid, and Above the Rim

NBA THE RUN is built around rollback netcode, meaning online play feels snappy and responsive even in cross‑play matches.

Signature Gameplay Pillars

  • Explosive dunks and alley‑oops out of spin moves

  • Ankle‑breaking dribble chains with new style animations

  • Logo‑range shooting for players with deep‑range badges

  • Physical defense—dives, steals, shoves, and chase‑downs

  • Takeover‑style “In‑The‑Zone” abilities that temporarily unlock elite skills (unlimited stamina, enhanced range, etc.)

The game is intentionally not a simulation. It’s about swagger, momentum, and highlight‑reel moments—without sacrificing competitive depth.

Modes: Knockout Tournaments Are the Heart of the Game

The core mode is the online Knockout Tournament, where players compete in escalating rounds across global streetball courts. Win and advance; lose and you’re out. It's just that simple.

Courts include:

  • Venice Beach

  • Rucker Park (NYC)

  • The Tenement (Philippines)

  • Dongdan (Beijing)

  • Harlem

  • And more, including 4 nighttime finals variants designed as championship stages

You can play Solo or Squads, and every match feels like a mini‑event thanks to reactive crowds, stylized lighting, and handcrafted court details.

While its on my mind: One mode I feel is missing is... Practice. Let people get a feel for the game whether or not they're handling the ball. Let them do more than shoot around. Knowing how to play D goes a long way, knowing the value of teamwork and how to pass... goes a long way.

Roster: 32 NBA Stars at Launch

The lineup includes:

  • LeBron James

  • Stephen Curry

  • Luka Dončić

  • Kevin Durant

  • Kyrie Irving

  • LaMelo Ball

  • Victor Wembanyama

  • Joel Embiid

  • James Harden

  • And more fan favorites

Each player has:

  • Unique animations

  • Signature abilities (ITZ abilities)

  • Strengths tailored to their real‑life playstyle

The Deluxe Edition adds rookie variants for Curry, Luka, and KD.

Courts: A Love Letter to Streetball

Play by Play didn’t just recreate courts—they built atmospheres:

  • Venice Beach Finals – boardwalk lights, neon reflections, and a festival‑like crowd

  • Rucker Park at night – gritty, loud, and packed with spectators leaning over the fence

  • Dongdan (Beijing) – considered the “Holy Land” of Chinese streetball, with crowds reacting to every move

Each court has its own vibe, lighting, and crowd behavior, making every tournament feel like a world tour.

 Why NBA THE RUN Matters

Arcade basketball has been dormant for years. Simulation titles dominate the market, but players have been craving something different—something fun, fast, and expressive.

NBA THE RUN fills that gap with:

  • Rollback netcode for competitive reliability

  • Stylized visuals that stand apart from sim-heavy games

  • A focus on creativity and flair

  • A global streetball identity

  • A fair price point

Early impressions from creators and competitive players highlight the game’s smooth dribbling, responsive controls, and high replay value thanks to its tournament structure.

NBA THE RUN isn’t trying to replace simulation basketball—it’s in another lane (clearly). With its blend of arcade energy, and competitive structure, it’s poised to become the go‑to game for players who want pure fun with real skill expression.

For fans of NBA Street, AND1, or fast‑paced online competition, this might be the most enjoyable arcade basketball release in awhile. Lace up and we'll see you out there. Remember... teamwork!
