The Steam Deck OLED is coming... November 16th!

The Valve Steam Deck has long been a head-turner among gamers thanks to its portability and power, especially for PC gamers. But now, the Steam Deck is back and better than ever before. The new OLED version boasts a high dynamic range screen, which means that colors are more vibrant and images are sharper than yesterday's model. This feature alone makes it worth upgrading to the OLED version when it comes to some gamers, but there are other improvements as well. Just like the Nintendo Switch, you have to really want that bump up in visual clarity to shell out more green, but at the same time, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I see collectors with various models of a system.

One of the most notable improvements is the longer-lasting battery. The OLED version can provide up to 8 hours of gameplay on a single charge, which is a significant improvement over the original version. This means that you can play longer without having to worry about running out of battery life.

In addition to the longer battery life, the OLED version also has faster downloads. This is thanks to the improved Wi-Fi hardware, which can download games and updates at a much faster rate than before. This means that you can spend less time waiting for your games to download and more time playing them.

Of course, all of these improvements come at a cost. The OLED version is available in two models, the 512GB version for $549.00 and the 1TB version for $649.00. This may be a bit steep for some gamers, but the improved features are definitely worth the investment for some gamers.

Parents in the market for gifts: If your teen doesn't have a Steam Deck, the upgrade could certainly be worth the investment... if you'd got it like that. It takes their existing games on PC (via their Steam account) and gives them the ability to enjoy their games on the go. If you're accustomed to buying them game multiple times throughout the year... the savings will ultimately surpass the initial investment if you're looking to get them a new system. They aren't locked behind a paywall with the Steam Deck if they want to play online. If you have internet, they have access to play online multiplayer.

If you choose to stick to discounted games... and a few new releases for the year, your gamers win because the Steam deals have a reputation of being crazy good. At the same time... I gotta keep it real, if you're big on Nintendo... you're saving some serious green if you get your hands on the Nintendo Switch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle for $299.00, but they'll make that money back with the price of the games + that paywall (although it's fairly inexpensive). By the way, you get 3 months of online play included in this bundle.

Anyway, if you're not ready to upgrade to the Steam Deck OLED version just yet, don't worry. The original version is still available at a reduced price ranging from $349.00 to $449.00. This is a great option for gamers who want to try out the Steam Deck but don't want to spend too much money.

However, if you're a true gaming enthusiast, you might want to consider the limited edition Steam Deck OLED. This version comes with a see-through shell, which gives it a unique and futuristic look. Quantities are limited, so if you want to get your hands on one, you'll need to act fast before they're all gone.

Overall, the Valve Steam Deck OLED is an improvement over the original version. With its improved screen, longer battery life, and faster downloads, it should please those who score one. Steam Deck OLED is available November 16 If you want to take advantage of the lower-priced LCD version, get it before it's gone because the existing units are the last ones Valve intends to manufacture.

You won't get a big difference between processors in the LCD & OLED versions, but the refresh rates and response times are very different... along with some additional upgrades.

The LCD version serves up 60 Hz, has the OLED version delivers 90Hz w/ <0.1 ms, but... the LCD version has a 7" screen, the OLED has a 7.4" screen. 5.0 Bluetooth is in the LCD version while 5.3 Bluetooth is in the OLED version. See more... here!

Air Twister: The Second Coming Of... Space Harrier? Possibly!

In the mood for a new Space Harrier-style game? Well, you may find an interest in Air Twister, the 3D shooting adventure game created by the legendary Yu Suzuki (YSNET). Shout out to the Inin team for supplying us with a copy.

If you aren't familiar with... Yu Suzuki, he's renowned for his iconic titles like Space Harrier, After Burner, Out Run, and the Shenmue series. So it was a pleasant surprise to see Inin and YSNET bring forth this fresh 3D arcade shooting adventure game with a symphony-rich soundtrack. I think the music is a perfect fit for this game.

Owners of Nintendo Switch + PlayStation 4 & 5 can get their hands on both physical and digital copies of Air Twister, while Xbox and PC users will have access to the digital version only. One thing I wish the team would have done was sweeten the pot for pre-orders. Nothing wrong with custom posters or perhaps a figurine or something. A little goes a long way in that regard, even if it's an exclusive digital skin, but... for physical copies, a physical item rocks to dial up the excitement as you prepare to embark on a mesmerizing journey through Yu Suzuki's imaginative realms.

In terms of the game, you represent... Princess Arch as she embarks on a whimsical quest to save her planet from impending doom. Equipped with arrows that leave behind graceful arcs of light, she confronts peculiar invaders with the same goal of taking her out. With over 20 unique enemies to conquer, Air Twister aims to deliver an unforgettable gaming experience.

In order to evoke a sense of nostalgia for traditional arcade games, Yu Suzuki has incorporated varying levels of difficulty into Air Twister, offering players an authentic old-school arcade feel. That old-school feel is undeniable in terms of the way some animations feel. While there is fluid movement in some aspects, with some enemies and even movement from swans and other winged creatures from Team Arch... feels a little stiff. If you're familiar with animation, you know what I mean, but... the goal was to capture that old-school feel.

Highlights of Air Twister:

Immerse yourself in 12 meticulously designed levels, each offering a unique and fresh experience every time you delve into the game. Embark on an enchanting journey reminiscent of Alice's adventures through the whimsical rabbit hole.

Test your skills against more than 20 dynamic Vanguard creatures and face off against 10 distinctive bosses, all while enjoying simple and intuitive controls that ensure a delightful and effortless gameplay experience.

Indulge in an extraordinary soundtrack created by Valensia, a renowned Dutch music composer who has spent over three decades preserving the timeless rock and opera legacy of Queen's greatest hits.

Unleash the full potential of replayability by unlocking Challenge Games in the Adventure Map, featuring exciting modes like Arcade, Turbo, Boss Rush, and more! Prepare for endless hours of thrilling gameplay.

Discover a multitude of fantastic Minigames that promise unexpected surprises and delightful elements.

Mark your calendars to take flight into the world of... Air Twister on November 10, 2023!

SEGA takes aim at Nintendo and it's a good thing!

Sega is fully embracing its roots and bringing back the old-school feel that made it a head-turning brand that rivaled Nintendo. As Nintendo's mainstay is the beloved Mario franchise, Sega has grown tired of the blue blur living in his shadow and wants to revamp the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise to surpass Mario in terms of quality and reach.

In a recent interview with Osamu Ohashi, Division Manager at Sega, he expressed his desire for Sonic to finally achieve the goal it was originally created for... to compete with Mario. Ohashi's vision is for Sonic to become a global phenomenon, just like Mario. He even envisions Universal Studios Japan creating a "Sonic Area" for fans to immerse themselves in the world of Sonic. It's clear that Ohashi and the entire team at Sega are passionate about making Sonic a household name once again. However, the question remains - is Sonic being held back by Mario's success, or is Sonic simply tripping over its own Sega-themed shoelaces? Only time will tell if Sega can revitalize Sonic and bring him back to his former glory and then some.

When it comes to video games, there's no denying that Mario's adventures are far more memorable, and it's not because people just want Mario to have better installments. There are Sonic fans who desperately want Sonic to catch his stride and not have this hit/miss reputation going on, they want Sega to go hard... to the degree that supporters can take a step back in awe.

Sega will have to study Mario games, especially the 3D ones... but Super Mario World is certainly one to take notes on also based on the depth it has. I can still go back and play that game but at the same time... I can go back and play certain Sonic games too. What has Nintendo done differently though?

They've kept it cohesive, borrowing from the past (Mario's movements from Super Mario 64... can be seen in Super Mario Odyssey), but... they kept things moving forward in solid ways that decrease frustration and rev up the fun factor. Put the necessary time in to make everything smooth on a fluid level, and bring in a writer who can draw someone in with a captivating story or something.

By the way, Mario rolling around... totally feels like something borrowed from Sonic (but he moves much smoother with it). What can Sonic borrow?

Oh yeah... the city from Super Mario Odyssey... totally reminds me of Sonic Adventure.

That's not to say that Sonic can't be as thrilling without using pointers from Mario's adventures, but Sega needs to get serious about what they want to do with him if they're going to take on Nintendo. While games like Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Frontiers have their merits, Sonic Adventure is the stand-out game for me that they should honestly consider exploring again but... in an all-new way and building upon it. I'm reminded of Sonic's movies and despite him living in a city, he has the ability to travel through rings. They can totally play on that and other emeralds from the past (see what I did there?). By the way, Super Mario Bros. Wonder also feels like the second coming of Super Mario World to me.

Mario has his adventures, but story isn't something Nintendo goes in-depth on by way of a script using voice acting. They let the captions and action do the talking. You play and proceed, and while you do get to enjoy progression as you make your way to big bad Bowser... an epic story showcasing Sonic's personality can help him win with little differences such as that. Add real comedy in there... Sonic has way more personality... and people saw it in the films.

This isn't to crap on Mario, he's the more squeaky-clean character... whereas Sonic was more of that cool character who's a little rough around the edges. By the way, Sega has other dope games... so it's not like they don't know how to deliver solid games, they just need to break things down to a science with Sonic.

Sega has tried in the past and continues to try in regards to the story... which is something I don't think they should abandon.

Anyway, Sega it's good to see this energy from Sega. Sonic Superstars is a step in the right direction, and if they continue to maintain a competitive spirit... we win. Sonic is still around for a reason, and it's because gamers want to support it. So keep on going Sega... keep what works while finding ways to wow the audience with new gameplay mechanics and exciting adventures. No longer should Sonic simply fly through environments though (I've always said this)... unless the section justified it. He needs to bring back the sense of wonder and excitement that made players fall in love with him in the first place.
