Nintendo Switch 2: A True Successor? + Hands-On Experience!

The Nintendo Switch 2 (NS2) is set to put it's stamp on the gaming world with its innovative features and commendable specs. As we eagerly await its official release, let's dive into what makes this next-gen console a true successor to the original Nintendo Switch (NS1). After the first look trailer:

For the record, it feels like this was put out as a way to bring the axe down on assumptions.

By the way, if I were Nintendo... when it came to the design on the new logo, I would've made it a bit more cohesive and put an LED light on deck to light up the "2" on the dock and the controller attachment. So whenever the Switch 2 console is slid into the docking station to game on the TV... it would light up the "2" on the docking station. Also, whenever the Joy-con's are connected to the controller attachment, the 2 would light up on the controller attachment. The design isn't atrocious or anything like that, it's just not as cohesive... and if I had anything to do with it... this is how I would've done it.

While detailed specifications are still under wraps, here’s what we know so far:

  • Design: The NS2 boasts a larger screen and Joy-Cons that attach magnetically, ensuring a solid and secure connection.
  • Display: Rumors suggest an 8-inch LCD screen, though this hasn't been confirmed.
  • Processor: Leaks indicate it might feature an Nvidia T239 Ampere GPU with 1534 CUDA cores.
  • Memory: Expected to have 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
  • Performance: In handheld mode, the GPU clocks at 561 MHz, while in docked mode, it reaches 1007.25 MHz.

Backwards Compatibility

Nintendo has made a smart move by incorporating backwards compatibility into the NS2... because no one wants to part with their library and start all over. However, not all games may be supported or fully compatible, so let's keep your fingers crossed. This could be a strategic decision to clear the way for the next installment of games with huge online players bases.

Design

One of the standout features of the NS2 (to me) is its improved stand. Drawing what appears to be inspiration from drawing tablets, the adjustable stand promises to deliver far better stability. Additionally, the possibility of a Switch Stylus could transform the NS2 into a true drawing tablet as well, and would increase the justification of the purchase for the artists in the room. The Nintendo 3DS had one, but this could literally take it to another level, and I can't help but wonder if there might be one housed in a spring loaded chamber next to the volume controls.

The Joy-Cons have also seen significant improvements. The extended connection ensures a secure fit, eliminating looser feel of the original Switch. The new design allows for easier use of the SL, SR, and the newly added shoulder buttons.

Not sure what type of audio we'll have with the new handheld, but if it delivers a virtual surround sound experience... that would be badass.

Upcoming Events

Nintendo is set to reveal more details during a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025. Following the presentation, you can experience the Nintendo Switch 2 firsthand at various locations:

  • New York, NY**: April 4-6, 2025
  • Los Angeles, CA**: April 11-13, 2025
  • Dallas, TX**: April 25-27, 2025

Considering the ongoing fires in LA, it might have been wiser to shift the event to Las Vegas, NV, or here to... Orlando, FL, especially at Universal Studios City Walk, to prepare for Super Nintendo World at Universal Epic Universe opening on May 22, 2025 (or have it in LA & Orlando). It really makes us scratch our heads at times when it comes to who makes these decisions but... it is what it is.

Other locations include:

  • Paris
  • London
  • Berlin
  • Milan
  • Toronto
  • Tokyo
  • Amsterdam
  • Madrid
  • Melbourne
  • Seoul

Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to embark on a new gaming adventure with the Nintendo Switch 2!

Nintendo Direct + The Super Mario Bros Movie... is probably the only movie I'm going to see next year!

I'm not big on going to the movie theaters, especially after the big bad C reared its head, but... I might have to make an exception. The Super Mario Bros Movie is something I really want to see, outside of being a gamer, it looks amazing and... I'm just curious about the experience.

On top of that, Super Nintendo Land is headed our way in Orlando (also in 2023), so I'm just excited all around. Not to a fanboy degree, because I still have a love-hate relationship with Nintendo, but... Mario's a classic and great animation is always an eye-catcher. This poster might even find its way into the studio somewhere.

Check out The Super Mario Bros Movie Direct... below, and game on!

The Super Mario Bros Movie description

From Illumination and Nintendo comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, next summer's Illumination film Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo. The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and released worldwide by Universal Pictures.

The Super Mario Bros Movie is headed to theaters... April 7, 2023!

Super Nintendo World is coming in 2023 + Mask Up Mondays: Muse Dash - Etude -Sunset-

I don't know if you're excited about the title or not, but (dude) Super Nintendo World is finally coming to the U.S. It's going to Universal Studios Hollywood first, and that's cool for my family in Cali but what about us?

According to Universal Studios, Orlando won't be ready for Super Nintendo World in the Epic Universe Park until 2025 due to Covid. I want to schedule the weirdest date ever to visit the park in hopes that it's not as crowded, but the line wait time might be even longer than current attractions.

If you're in California, plan ahead with your tickets! If you're in Florida, enjoy some existing fun until the Epic Universe concept below is brought to life!
