Once Upon A Puppet: A Theatrical Adventure + Make Your Own Puppet!

Once Upon A Puppet | SDGT Studio Title Art

The Strings That Bind the Story

What if a game felt like a live performance—where every movement, every scene change, and every puzzle was part of an unfolding act? Once Upon A Puppet, developed by Flatter Than Earth, takes players beyond the curtain and into the heart of a theatrical puzzle-platformer that seamlessly blends art, storytelling, and mechanics.

A Stage Unlike Any Other

Step into the role of Drev, a puppet mysteriously bound by enchanted strings, and Nieve, an exiled stagehand pulling his fate forward. Together, they journey through The Understage, a forgotten realm beneath a grand theater where lost tales and fractured dreams take shape. With stage-shifting mechanics, players can manipulate environments as if directing a live production, transforming the game into an experience that evolves with each act.

Mastering the Puppeteer’s Craft

This isn't your typical puzzle-platformer—it requires finesse and creative problem-solving. The controls make every interaction feel intentional, as players pull the strings to move, manipulate, and unlock hidden paths. The fluid movement system combined with dynamic puzzles makes every jump, twist, and sequence a carefully choreographed masterpiece.

A Visual Symphony of Light & Shadow

Theater-inspired backdrops, dramatic lighting, and intricate set pieces give Once Upon A Puppet an unmistakable stage-like atmosphere. The art style doesn’t just enhance the visuals—it actively shapes gameplay, making every transition feel immersive and every challenge feel part of a larger production.

Behind the Curtain: The Minds Behind the Magic

The team at Flatter Than Earth thrives on creating narrative-driven adventures that break conventions. Every detail—from the handcrafted dialogue to the meticulously designed environments—reinforces their dedication to storytelling, making Once Upon A Puppet a must-play for lovers of art, theater, and puzzle-solving.

Materials Needed:

  • Construction paper (various colors)

  • String or yarn

  • Hole puncher

  • Scissors

  • Glue or tape

  • Markers for decoration

  • Popsicle sticks or cardboard

Steps to Make Your Own Puppet:

  • Cut the Puppet Shape – Draw and cut out a puppet figure from construction paper. Get creative with different shapes or keep it simple.

  • Cut the Strings – Make sure the wrist strings are equal in length, and then make sure the longer ankle strings are equal in length. Compare the two, and feel free to lay the strings down next to your character with the popsicle stick over it. The shortest string will be connected to the head. This helps your puppet be able to properly move.

  • Dissect & Create Moving Parts – Separate the arms and legs from the main body. Instead of gluing or taping them rigidly, they’ll be attached with string for flexible movement through the joints.

  • Punch Holes for Joints – Use a hole puncher to create small holes at the top of the arms and legs, as well as corresponding holes on the puppet’s body where the limbs will be attached. Did you cut off too much of the body for the arms and legs? No worries, cut out circles to glue or tape in these area where the shoulders and hips would be. This would allow for the arms and legs to be comfortably attached. Don't forget to punch holes for wrists and ankle areas where the movement string will be placed. Do the same for elbows and knees to take things to another level.

  • Attach Strings for Mobility – Thread string through the holes and tie knots to connect the limbs to the body. The loose connection allows the arms and legs to move freely, creating a joint-like motion.

  • Make a Control Handle – Tape or paste popsicle sticks together in a capital X like layout or cardboard strips in a similar shape to attach the strings, letting you manipulate the puppet’s movements easily. Connect the head to the center area of where the sticks cross. Turn the X to the side and make the back area of the X so that you know which parts are for the ankles, where as the parts of the X in the front are for the wrists.

  • Decorate Your Puppet – Add personality with markers, stickers, or paper cutouts. You can create facial expressions, outfits, or accessories to bring your character to life.

  • Bring Your Puppet to Life! – Hold the control handle and move the strings to make your puppet wave, walk, or act out scenes.

This fun craft is a great way to bond with kids, spark creativity, and bring the magic of puppetry into your home—just like Once Upon A Puppet!

Life Sim Games: A Healthy Escape During Financially Challenging Times

When times are tough, finding ways to unwind without breaking the bank becomes more important than ever. Video games are definitely one of the go-to options with high replay value. One genre that has the ability to become a go-to escape for many gamers is... life simulation games. Titles like Krafton's inZOI offer a digital retreat, allowing players to build, design, and experience life in a way that feels both rewarding and inspiring.

But... beyond entertainment, life sim games provide real mental health benefits. They offer a sense of accomplishment, allowing players to create and shape their own worlds without the pressure of complex missions or competitive matches. This kind of low-stress engagement can be a great way to relax, reduce anxiety, and even spark... creativity. Capcom's Street Fighter illustrations were some of my faves growing up, I even remember taking out parts of my video game magazines and taping them up if they had cool art from Capcom. I'm an artist, so that was a great motivator. Now apply life sims in terms of life. It won't be the exact same, but if you find motivation to strive for something positive... during your escape, that's a bonus!

Driving in inZOI!
Studies suggest that fantasizing and immersing oneself in a simulated world can have positive effects on mental well-being (don't sleep on the benefits of using the right side of your brain). Games like The Sims have been linked to stress relief, self-expression, and even improved problem-solving skills. A psychoanalyst (Steve McKeown) has even noted that life sim games can serve as a healthy form of escapism, helping players disconnect from daily pressures while exploring new ideas and possibilities.

By engaging in virtual creativity, players can experiment with life choices, whether it’s designing a dream home, planning a wedding, or managing a city. This kind of fantasy-based play can inspire real-life goals and help players feel more in control of their future. So if you haven't played a life sim before, consider giving one a try.

Gaming doesn’t have to be expensive, and life sim games can be a cost-effective way to stay entertained. Pairing a game like inZOI with free activities on your daily agenda... such as working out, playing basketball, or cooking at home... can help reduce unnecessary spending while keeping life fulfilling. No spending out of boredom, and when it's not being spent... its being saved.

Even when money is tight, budgeting and planning ahead can make a huge difference. Life sim games encourage strategic thinking, which can... potentially... help with better financial habits in real life if you apply those budgeting strategies. Whether it’s saving for a big purchase or learning how to manage resources, these games can provide valuable lessons that extend beyond the screen.

Life sim games are more than just entertainment... they’re a mental health boost, a creativity spark, and a budget-friendly escape. Whether you’re designing a house or a city, building relationships, or simply enjoying the freedom of a digital world, these games offer a refreshing break from reality while helping players stay engaged and inspired. That's the goal, sometimes everything won't happen at once... but stay motivated. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to be still, meditate, take advantage of peace and relaxation to ease your mind, but make sure the time is dedicated to something other than boredom.

I could let my character chill while I zone out to this sounds of the water.

So if you’re looking for a way to relax, dream, and plan for the future, consider adding a life sim game to your routine. It might just be the perfect way to take the edge off + find motivation... while navigating life’s challenges. By the way... The Sims 4 (base game) is free to play.

Tech This Out: Making Your System Windows 11 Compatible

How to Check Your System for a TPM and Enable It for Windows 11 Compatibility

If you've run the PC Health Check tool and found that your system isn't compatible with Windows 11 despite meeting all other hardware requirements, don't give up hope just yet. The missing piece of the puzzle might be your Trusted Platform Module (TPM), and the solution could be waiting in your BIOS settings.

What Is TPM and Why Does It Matter?

The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a security chip that helps protect sensitive data such as encryption keys, credentials, and other critical security features. Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0 to ensure better security and integrity of the operating system.

If your hardware meets Windows 11's requirements but your PC Health Check tool still says it's incompatible, it's likely because TPM is either missing or disabled. Many modern systems already have TPM built-in but require manual activation in the BIOS.

How to Check If Your PC Has TPM

Before diving into BIOS settings, it's worth confirming whether your system actually has a TPM available. Here's how:

  1. Press Win + R, type tpm.msc, and hit Enter.

  2. The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) Management window will open.

  3. If you see a message stating "TPM is ready for use", then your system has TPM and it’s enabled.

  4. If it says "TPM is not detected" or similar, you may need to enable it in BIOS.

How to Enable TPM in BIOS

If your PC Health Check indicates that TPM is missing, it may simply be disabled in BIOS. Follow these steps to enable it:

  1. Restart your PC and repeatedly press the appropriate key to enter BIOS (usually F2, Delete, or Esc depending on your manufacturer).

  2. Once inside BIOS, navigate to the Security, Advanced, or Trusted Computing section. This varies by manufacturer.

  3. Look for an option called TPM, PTT (Platform Trust Technology for Intel), or fTPM (Firmware TPM for AMD).

  4. Set the TPM option to Enabled.

  5. Save and exit BIOS, typically by pressing F10 and confirming your changes.

Once TPM is enabled, boot back into Windows and run Windows Update to check if your system now qualifies for the Windows 11 upgrade.

Extra Precautions Before Upgrading

While enabling TPM should make your system compatible, consider taking extra precautions before upgrading:

  • Backup your data: Always back up important files in case anything goes wrong.

  • Clone your drive (Optional): If possible, clone your current drive before upgrading. This ensures you have a working version of Windows 10 in case of driver issues. You want the ability to keep working, especially if you work primarily on PC!

  • Rollback option: Windows 11 allows you to roll back to Windows 10 within a certain period (usually 10 days) if needed.

With TPM enabled and precautions in place, you should be all set to make the leap to Windows 11 with confidence. If you encounter any issues, double-check your BIOS settings or consult your PC manufacturer’s support for specific guidance.
