Why Gamers Are Buzzing About Game Science’s Upcoming Title: Black Myth: Zhong Kui

Game Science has once again stirred excitement in the gaming world with the announcement of its next myth-infused action RPG, Black Myth: Zhong Kui... and it has certainly grabbed our attention. While details remain scarce (like extremely scarce), the reveal has sparked speculation, curiosity, and plenty of hype—especially among fans of Black Myth: Wukong, the studio’s breakout title that reimagined Journey to the West with cinematic flair and challenging gameplay. You didn't know where to turn because there was an enemy waiting to take you on.

Who Is Zhong Kui—and Why Him?

Zhong Kui, a legendary demon queller from Chinese folklore, is a stark departure from the monkey king... Wukong. Known for his fierce appearance and righteous mission to banish evil spirits, Zhong Kui offers a darker, more mystical lens into mythological storytelling. Game Science chose him not as a sequel character, but as a way to expand their creative universe and challenge themselves with fresh ideas. So no, this isn't a part two, this is... Zhong Kui's Black Myth story.

Ties to the Black Myth Universe

Black Myth: Zhong Kui is officially the second title in the Black Myth series, sharing its foundation in ancient Chinese myth and folklore. While it’s not a direct sequel to Wukong, it exists within the same mythological framework, suggesting thematic and stylistic continuity. Fans can expect:

A single-player action RPG format, just like Wukong

A shared mythological tone, but with a new protagonist and perspective

Gameplay innovations that build on lessons learned from Wukong

Game Science has made it clear: The journey westward with Wukong isn’t over, but Zhong Kui represents a bold new chapter.

 Why the Hype?

Despite the project being in its early stages—“little more than an empty folder,” as the devs humorously put it (I say at least for the press)—there are several reasons gamers are already excited:

•  Fresh Mythology: Zhong Kui’s lore is rich, eerie, and underexplored in gaming.

•  Studio Credibility: After the visual and mechanical polish of Wukong, expectations are sky-high.

•  Creative Ambition: Game Science promises “refreshing changes” and “bolder features,” hinting at gameplay evolution.

•  CG Teaser: Though no gameplay was shown, the cinematic short released on August 20th teased tone, atmosphere, and artistic direction.

 What’s Next?

There’s no release date yet—not even a rough estimate... but that's okay. The developers are still outlining the story and experimenting with gameplay so let them cook so they can serve up the best dish possible. But they’ve confirmed that Black Myth: Zhong Kui will launch on PC and all mainstream consoles, and future updates will be shared via their unified “Black Myth” social accounts.

For fans of myth-driven action RPGs, Black Myth: Zhong Kui represents more than just a new game—it’s a signal that Game Science is building a universe. One where folklore meets finesse, and each title offers a new lens into ancient legends. If Wukong was the spark, Zhong Kui might just be the fire that keeps the series burning bright (or should I say... black?).
