The merger of EA and NBCUniversal might have been a huge discussion in the gaming industry.
Electronic Arts (EA) CEO Andrew Wilson had negotiations with NBCUniversal CEO Brian Roberts to combine their companies together, however, no conclusion was made about this deal.
A report that EA also had discussions with Amazon, Apple, and Disney was also in the recent past. The timeline was not stated except for Disney where they were said to have been held as recently as March of this year.
However, the discussion between NBCUniversal ultimately fell through in the last month because of a lack of approval over price and structure, having talked to four close sources about the matter.
After weeks of negotiations, the merger between these two companies would have seen NBCUniversal take most control of the newly formed entity, which is headed up by Andrew Wilson.
EA has not commented on the speculation associated, while Apple, Amazon, and Disney refused to give comments.
The persistent pursuit of a sale has been the theme in recent years of EA, but why?
Lastly, Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot has debunked the reported news of his company being for sale. In an earnings call following their FY2022 financial results, he said they intend to remain independent. As long as the developers don't end up in the wrong has to limit our platform options and quality, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about.
If you're one of those people who made the decision to invest in an Amazon product, you may be thinking twice about that decision with the launch of Amazon Sidewalk. After this post, I hope to leave you better informed about keeping the service enabled or disabling it for personal reasons.
Amazon Sidewalk is software that uses IoT devices by way of turning them into a wireless hub for various smart devices. It uses your internet connection... which it should if the IoT device belongs to you, but the problem is that the Amazon Sidewalk allows others to use your internet connection through your devices (as part of a mesh network)... via their devices. Yeah... WTF, right?
When I first heard about it, my first thought was... "This is a security breach just waiting to happen", even if Amazon ensures that there are multiple layers of encryption and limited access will be granted only to the IoT devices via the Sidewalk Bridge, it's fair to be concerned.
The encryption may give some of you solace, but for me... I don't know if the risk is worth the benefit.
While it's cool that this could essentially provide you with a city-wide mesh network for the IoT's that help you track a missing pet, or notify you of your car alarm going off at a significant distance, it's only a matter of time before someone potentially messes it up for everyone else. That's the annoying thing about hackers, they're like that hideous pimple that shows up on your big day (whatever the occasion)... but they're far worse.
That's my concern, and I don't know how anyone would be able to do it... but I'm sure there are hackers out there cracking their knuckles ready to figure it out.
Amazon Sidewalk is a feature in the following devices (it was dormant until... today):
Echo Show
Echo Plus
Echo Dot (2nd Gen & Up)
Echo (2nd Gen & Up)
Echo Studio
Ring Floodlight Cam (2019)
Ring Spotlight Cam (2019)
Ring Car Alarm
Tile + More to come!
Oh... and another thing, I know it's a benefit to users, but what is Amazon getting out of this? I suspect that they will be able to get a boost in terms of logistics at no cost to them. So the product that you bought from them, which wasn't given to you free in exchange for this initiative could also potentially help them by way of this mesh network if you choose to keep your IoT devices enabled.
I can't say that for sure, but it's easy to assume that they will take advantage of the Sidewalk Bridge in some way even if it sells more of the products that will use this a lot. If you choose to leave it enabled because it's no big deal to you, that's cool... but consider any potential data caps you may have because if you're about to hit your limit... would Amazon know you're at your limit? They couldn't possibly know that, which could send you over... possibly for a complete stranger. It will only use 500MB per month, but that's something to keep in mind if you don't disable Amazon Sidewalk.
If you aren't comfortable with the internet sharing lovefest, you can opt-out by going to your Settings > and then your Account Settings > and then your Amazon Sidewalk settings> from there... turn it off!
I like some of the Amazon deals, I use select Amazon services, buy groceries every blue moon + other products including Prime deals where you can score a Fire TV for $99.99... so I'm not just some hater of Amazon. I do have a problem with things like what may potentially happen with Amazon Sidewalk.
So do what you will with the information, I personally haven't purchased any of the Echo products, and... the same can be said about the Facebook Portal or Google's Nest Speaker (because you never know what a company or a hacker will do).
Since I lean in the direction of... no, check out this video from TWiT that leans towards a... yes!
I'm not sure if anyone else has been wondering this, but Amazon should totally have a drawing tablet by now. It doesn't have to be this small... this is merely an example, but they could literally have a portable version and a desktop version of a good drawing tablet. They make nearly everything else.
Did you know that Amazon sells things like oil for your car and even... Ibuprofen? Those things sell... I totally get that, but I think that an Amazon drawing tablet would be a head-turner seller without there being a major stretch to make it happen. If they were looking for a way to truly make a noticeable revision to the Fire tablet... that would be it, at least for digital artists... but I don't think artists would be the only buyers.
A pen-enabled tablet would be something useful for a large number of people... even if they don't realize it. Make the Fire pen-enabled and you give owners the ability to draw + write + sign documents. The ability to sign documents digitally goes a long way because you don't have to worry about printing things out just to sign them and scan them back in, which saves paper (and trees).
For now, you have the ability to use the stylus pens with the nub, but... there are plenty of drawing tablets on Amazon for a reason and it wouldn't hurt if one of them was created by... Amazon.
A stand-alone drawing tablet would be great for portable use, and it wouldn't be a bad idea if Amazon created a pen display similar to other products like the 13.3" Wacom One. If you aren't familiar with the Wacom One, it's also a tablet... but it's not standalone and lacks an onboard OS. You have to connect these pen displays to an external device for use... which in this case you have the ability to connect the Wacom One to a computer or mobile device. The big thing would be the price, and if the quality is there... the competition would be on and poppin'. I think $150 to $199 would be a killer price tag.
The Wacom One has a Full HD Display at 1920 X 1080 resolution, covers 72% of the NTSC color space, and 4096 Levels of Pressure Sensitivity at $399.99.
Before I get to my post of the Top Audiences for Last Week, I'm doing a review for Amazon Restaurants service. Yep... me... señor Snack King (not to be confused with señor smoothy buns)! I'm doing the review this time around! Gwahahaha! Thank you to Amazon for covering the meal... we wouldn't pass up on that! Hehehehe (Hi Mom!)
So we went through Amazon using a prime account to access their restaurants' service, and based on our location... it populated tons of restaurants in the area. We're surrounded by restaurants big and small, so we looked through a few.
Once you find the type of food you have a taste for, check out their menu and food you want to add to your order. You don't get access to every single meal through some restaurants, but it's a simple... cool process for the meals that are on the menu. I wanted seafood.
You check out just like the regular Amazon orders, but it comes a lot quicker. Our food came in about 30 minutes and they didn't make the food until the delivery driver got there. So it was fresh... I like fresh, crispy, DELICIOUS. I guess the restaurants have delivery seals they put on the meals so that you can tell if it was opened or not.
They have a minimum $10 requirement for your order, but there is also a $3.99 fee that doesn't include tip. Blu isn't a fan of ordering in for a number of reasons, and fees are one of them... but the fee comes with the territory if you choose to use the service. They put a suggested tip amount there, but you ultimately decide on what that is. I don't know if you have the option to select no tip, but... if you do that for the sake of tipping cash, tip cash. Do that at restaurants too so the staff doesn't have to wait until payday. Those tips aren't always paid in full. The delivery lady was friendly, gave me the order and she was on her way. I don't want to say that's always the case, but Amazon should stress the importance of that (please please please)... because customer service is great for business online and in-person.
The service is quick and easy, but make sure that you call Amazon if the restaurant no longer has the item you ordered. This happened to us the first time we ordered, so we spoke with them, and they canceled the entire order quickly. LOVE IT!
