Is this the second coming of... NBA Street?! That's the goal!

EA vets create a new with the goal of bringing back that NBA Street energy with a new... IP!

Game Industry Biz, spoke to CEO Scott Probst and creative director Mike Young about what the sports games market is missing while serious simulations dominate. Clearly they're viewing a problem they hope to be a solution for, but... we can't overlook other studios like Playground Sports and their contribution to the arcade sports genre in recent times.

It is interesting to see EA vets form their own studio for the sake of releasing their own version of NBA Street. It will certainly break away from what EA would target legally if they aren't the publisher, but one thing I scratch my head about is will they have official players or... are they going their own way in terms of creating their own characters.

If they choose to take this route, the fun factor will have to be through the roof, because a number of people don't simply play these games just to play with... Jammin John Doe with the double dunk. They play sports games usually because they love gaming + sports and want to be a part of the experience when it comes the league and their favorite teams and players. All it took was inviting my parents to a Heats game back when the big three called the team... home, and they were hooked. Playing sports games of the past, just like the present, is also motivated by the fanfare a good chunk of the time. I won't say it's doom and gloom, because some of us grab arcade sports games just because they're fun (I've played some no name titles back in the day myself)... but there are also other options Play by Play can take if they approach the player associations rather than the league (i.e. What Playground Sports did with Wild Card Football).

I didn't see anything in the Game Industry Biz article about not grabbing the license to make things official, but... the way they use examples like "Nintendo's Mario-fronted sports games" and mentioning fighting games who got their start with unrecognizable characters, it's easy to assume that the characters won't be recognizable during this first go round.

Will it matter? We shall see, but... I wish them the best either way if gamers are satisfied.

New Survey - Wants VS Needs: Ease the fight for entertainment and wants!

According to a Mind & Money Connection survey, people are refusing to give up certain expenses even though they are considered non-essential.

The top expenses include:

  • 'Treat Yourself' Purchases (like morning coffee) - 30.1%
  • Health & Wellness (gym memberships, therapy, etc.) - 29.3%
  • Media & Entertainment (streaming, music subscriptions) - 26.9%
  • Experiences (movie tickets, concerts, theme parks) - 26.7%
  • Social Activities (dining out, clubs, sports) - 22.5%

I can understand the desire to maintain certain health/wellness, and some extras to add normalcy during tough times, but there are options worth considering.

For those who want to hold onto non-essentials, I suggest exploring more affordable alternatives:

The key is to budget and do your research, get creative with free/low-cost options, and prioritize covering essential expenses first. Resources like the $30 Now Home Internet service can help make entertainment and work accessible if you need to cut a cost.

Remember, there are also assistance programs in the U.S. for the less fortunate. With discipline and a good plan, you can hopefully get through this challenging time and establish a budget. For saving, Paypal actually has a saving account option that provides you with 4.30%, so if you plug a small amount of money into it on a consistent basis you can benefit.

Lastly, Rideshare drivers, you can make $1200/year without additional work by signing up for a tablet to entertain your passengers. There is no charge for you and tips may increase due to the added entertainment.

Steam Replay 2022 Stats for SDGT Entertainment!

I thought this would be a cool share for PC gamers. If you play video games on Steam, you have one of the same data breakdowns. How did you fair?

It's not surprising that the streak couldn't be higher, since other tasks have to be done. Maybe this will increase in 2023, but it's a trade-off because other products require attention.

Studios aren't reaching out for the sake of older video games being reviewed, so no surprise here.

Catching up on video games that were added to favorites is the reason for the 45% in this category.

0% for Classic Games category is understandable, but maybe one day. I must say that 50% keyboard + mouse and 50% controller usage is amazing, but also the data is awesome proof of the variety that we try to present. The variety is to give you an idea of what you can expect from games of different genres that you'd like to invest in for yourself or a gamer in your life.

We are days away from 2023, and we hope that you look forward to the new content that's in store.
