CES 2024 Head Turners

CES 2024 showcased a plethora of innovative and exciting tech products. Here are some of the most popular products that were showcased at the event:

LG Signature OLED T: This transparent TV is truly unique tech furniture that combines LG’s wireless 4K HDR 120Hz streaming tech with a clear 4K OLED panel. It gives a transparent experience when desired but you use this award-winning television just like your standard OLED. If amazing could be defined by a TV, it would probably be this one, with Samsung's Frame TV as a close second. The screensavers alone could make this worth the purchase for some consumers.

You know who's been here before? PC Gamers! Oh yeah... you can take a look at the iBuypower Snowblind S Case as proof. On the side of the tower is a transparent LCD side panel that you plug in with a DVI connection or an HDMI connection depending on which case you get. They have a 1280 X 1024 display which you can display different images and videos, just keep in mind that if you want a more visible image or animation... they should be lighter in color + your RGB lighting should either be off or a light color. -  Blu

Samsung The Premiere 8K: This flagship projector for 2024 is the world’s first to support wireless 8K streaming. The Samsung Premiere 8K is the follow-up to 2020's 4K Premiere projector and can beam up to 150 inches of action onto a flat surface at a standard ruler's length from the wall.

This short-throw projector also packs an eye-catching 4,000 lumens of brightness, which beats out Awol Visions flagship LTV-3500 Pro by 500 lumens. Awol Vision is also an award-winning brand in this space, known for its Vanish TV.

MSI Claw A1MX (handheld gaming device): The Claw A1m is an upcoming gaming device showcased at CES 2024 and turned heads at the event. This handheld runs on Windows 11, with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor 155H, a 53 WHr battery, a system crafted and equipped for optimum cooling, and a game controller-like grip. The price will probably fall within the range of $599 to $799, which will be available in MSI's online store in February or March.

Replay Wireless Controller: This isn't a head-turner in itself, but it does get a head nod. Mainly, it's one of the first game controllers from my recollection that was made for a television. The PDP Replay rechargeable Bluetooth controller would turn heads... if it comes included with compatible Samsung Smart TVs & Monitors.

The Rabbit R1: This head-turning device is an AI companion for your pocket that works with your phone while performing tasks that your phone allegedly cannot. The controls are simple, giving you the ability to use a push-to-talk button, a scroll wheel, and use of the touchscreen to interact.

The R1 device also features a far-field mic designed to have a balanced treble-to-bass ratio and is ideal for capturing audio at a distance. This feature is to make sure that the device can listen to you or anything you need for it to analyze.

Additionally, it features a 360-rotating camera to analyze images or even the items in your refrigerator to present various recipes for a meal. The usb-c port my do more than charge the device, while the sim card slot makes us wonder if this is secretly a phone at the price point of $199.

The Rabbit R1 Specs:

Battery: 1000mAh capacity
Weight: 115g
Speaker output: 2W
Audio input: Dual microphone array
Bluetooth 5.0 | Wi-Fi 2.4GHz + 5GHz | 4G LTE
Display: 2.88in TFT Touchscreen
MediaTek MT6765 Octa-core (Helio P35)
Ram: 4GB
Storage: 128GB
Magnetometer + GPS
Accelerometer + Gyroscope
Photo resolution: 8MP | 3264x2448
Video resolution: 24fps | 1080p
SIM card slot
USB-C

Samsung Odyssey OLED G9: To reserve or not to reserve before the price reveal?

Dude, I'm not sure what's going on over at Samsung, but according to our friends at Digital Trends, they're asking customers to reserve the Odyssey OLED G9 before the price has been revealed it's crazy. Perhaps crazy like a fox.

It's crazy because they can slap any price on it and end up losing interest from people who become gunshy about spending that type of money, but crazy like a fox if it means that those who reserve give an idea of demand and reservations can result in some extras for those who do.

I get that it's a nice curved screen monitor, dual 1440p QD-OLED at 240Hz, and blazzay blah, but it's not that nice if I'm potentially looking at the cost of a new PC. So this could work out, it's not a pre-order, but you don't know how people will react when the price is revealed.

If you reserve the OLED G9 monitor, you get $50 off instantly + a $250 Samsung gift card. So if you were going to get one anyone, go ahead and jump on the reserve bus. Just make sure you cross your fingers that this thing is less than the 2,500 Euro as mentioned by Digitec Galaxus.

There are other options out there that don't require customers to take a leap of faith when it comes to price, but if it pays off they found a new way to win by rewarding customers, as long as they don't pull a fast one.

How To Buy A 4K TV With No Regrets!

Are you ready for a 4K UHD TV? 4K TV's like the Samsung AU800D feature a Crystal 4K processor that has a noticeable vibrant boost over the standard 4K display thanks to the full spectrum coverage of HDR. HDR broadens the contrast of the bright and dark range, but despite how powerful and vibrant 4K TV's like the LG OLED C2 are with a9 Gen5 AI Processors, you need the right content and connection speed to enjoy them without regrets.

Ultra HD Blu-ray is best for HDR, standard Blu-ray discs don't support HDR because they don't have the capacity. Ultra HD Blu-ray can hold 3D/object-based surround sound along with the video content.

Streaming HDR content is possible with connection speeds of at least 15Mbps. So based on what you desire to invest in your visual experience, it might help you ultimately decide if a UHD TV is right for you at this time. 4K UHD is 3840 x 2160 pixels, which is four times the standard 1920 x 1080 HDTV.

If you're a gamer, you're in good hands with an HDR TV. All are not created equal, but there are some really good options at lower price tags if you need to fall within a certain budget. The Hisense 65" A65H LED UHD TV is a good entry into 4K. Like the more pricy options, this television features Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10. The PS5 and Xbox Series X support HDR10 & Dolby Vision, as well as UHD Blu-ray. TVs featuring Samsung Gaming Hub.

8K options like the Samsung Neo QLED are also available, but I believe 4K will be where it's at for some time when you consider a number of consumers are still at standard HDTV resolutions.

TV size is also another area to consider. Despite being a gigantic overkill for the average home, you do have a place for larger TV like the Samsung 85" AU800D on the market. Larger living room spaces normalize this Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV because it provides better viewing in the space than a 40" to 43" option, but there is a place for each size.

If you're sitting at a distance of 11.5' to 15' from the TV, it's best to go with an 80" to 85" option. It covers the space and the Samsung AU800D features a dynamic crystal color technology that maintains its look from comfortable viewing angles. Sitting almost to the side isn't going to deliver a true viewing experience, so seating should be placed where it makes sense.

* Don't find yourself placing your couches and chairs at the weirdest angles to watch TV. If someone can see the wiring in the back of the telly... your seating is way too close and way off to the side. If someone is leaning like Smokey & Craig (reacting to a black eye), just to see the action, switch it up! If someone has to stand in the back of the main couch or on the side... the couch placement's off there (chief). If the floor in front of the coffee table gets more love than the loveseat, yep... you guessed it, update the placement. When you get the seating right... you also have the ability to improve your speaker placement (if you add surround sound to the mix). Consider a Cuddler + two chairs to round it out a bit. I think it makes sense, but... add things in overtime for the sake of your budget. -  Blu

So how do you upgrade to 4K without regrets? Avoid standard 4K, make it count with 4K UHD that comes with a great warranty. A great long-term warranty will ensure your investment is protected and makes it easier to take that step with peace of mind. Standard 4K is better than standard HD, but the long-term investment in 4K UHD will go a lot further.

Eyeing the... Samsung C43J89

Multiple monitors... widescreen monitors... I love em' (duh of the day). These are things I enjoy without a shadow of a doubt because they provide the screen space for better productivity. I'm sure many of you agree, especially if you're one of the many out there that need to switch between apps.
Gaming is a plus if you want to increase the monitor size for your pleasure, but... even still these monitors can fall a bit short (for me at least). Multiple monitors give me more productivity and a larger viewing space for gaming... but its divided between bezels. The standard widescreen monitor gets the job done for gaming on a larger screen, but... I still wouldn't go that route for a new monitor (I'll highlight my reasons for this).
Goodbye to Bezel Blindspots
Now if a company sent me a widescreen monitor... I wouldn't just turn it down because it wasn't the specific type that I wanted, heck no, but if I were going take some coins out of my Pikachu coin bank... it's going to be for what I have my eyes set on. What might that be? A curved monitor of course!!! Right now, as far as upgrades go... that's one of the few things I can think of as far as actual upgrades go because it's a step forward in functionality for me.

A curved monitor would be my monitor of choice for productivity and PC gaming. Anything else... I'd just use the telly. A curved monitor gives that widescreen view but... unlike the standard widescreen monitor, the curves allow for a comfortable viewing zone.
Curved for Comfort
Multiple monitor setups can achieve this by turning them towards you based on your position... but its just simpler with a curved monitor without being broken up between separate screens. The list of pluses don't stop there. The pluses of getting one of the more modern curved monitors like the Samsung CJ890... is the ability to utilize a built-in KVM Switch. As seen in the image here... you can connect a notebook, and even a cellphone via the DeX Station (a potential plus to capture on-screen video while streaming or something without the need to open software).
Connect and Collaborate
You can split the screen up the way you want... and it's all accessible from a single keyboard, mouse, monitors, and speakers. I just think that's awesome... because productivity can go up without jumping from system to system.

The Samsung C43J89 is a monitor I've had my eye on since last year sometime and it covers the specs that work for me. Going back to the old Pikachu coin back... I still wouldn't settle until I've compared a number of monitors at this $800 price point (especially if it can result in saving money without losing what matters). This is also a VA panel... but that's not the end of the world. I wouldn't go over $1000, there are plenty of monitors below a grand to appreciate... like the CJ890. This isn't exactly a review but... I have my eye on a variety of tech so stay tuned.

Here are the specs for the Samsung C43J89:

Screen Size 43"
Resolution 3840 x 1200
Display Type VA
Aspect Ratio 32:10
Height Adjustable Stand (it also swivels & tilts)
Wall Mountable... although I'm not a fan of placing mounts on my wall.
Flicker Free
Built-in KVM switch
2 x USB Type-C ports
HDMI
Display Port
Refresh Rate 120Hz
Built-In Stereo Speakers

Samsung Odyssey VR Headset... to wait or to buy? That is the question.

The Samsung Odyssey is coming out this fall... along with Windows VR headsets from Dell, HP, Asus and others. Prices will vary along with quality, look and comfort but... are you interested?

This looks bad ass. - Luis D. Lucha | Sdgt Ent
If you're looking to get a VR headset for your Windows 10 PC... first make sure it can handle the hardware through the official Microsoft compatibility app, but also take a step back and find out if it has the content worth buying the hardware for (when it comes to you). Luckily for gamers... SteamVR will be here for us, but even with that in mind... make sure the games are up your virtual alley. If you know what type of VR action you're into, that is.

I think it'll be worth it for the entertainment. - Yang | Sdgt Ent
Not everyone will get a chance to try before they buy, but try to get your eyes on plenty of reviews before you fire off on a specific one. Look out for the quality and make sure its something you can wear for a long period of time and often. Also, look out for the sound quality if it has built-in headphones, to make sure it's not crappy.

Weigh your options!!! What else can you get, if you're strapped for cash and you have to save up for one of these... then drop the money into one that's worth the money. In other words... avoid the ones that are understandably cheap.

These specific headsets are known as mixed reality headsets (that don't require additional sensors around the home) and... I look forward to the day these things are advanced enough to be wireless, allowing me to walk around my home freely. If I were going to get one this fall, it would probably be the Samsung Odyssey due to the AMOLED screens and the AKG headphones... because the quality needs to be there in order for me to get my actual worth out of it (especially for $499 + tax). The better the quality, the more I can appreciate the experience.

A game has to be... super good to get me back to motion controls. - RkRk | Sdgt Ent

The Samsung Odyssey gives you 2880 x 1600 in resolution, OLED display, 90Hz refresh rate, 110˚ max field view, headphones + dual array mics and motion controllers (the ones you see here). By the way... when it comes to VR controllers, it wouldn't hurt to have some with additional buttons for the purpose of advanced gameplay. Then again... I am completely fine holding a standard game controller while without flailing my arms about.

Samsung Odyssey VR Headset... to wait or to buy? Hmm, depends on if you're content with the cost mainly. There are people that go after the latest tech and want to maximize their experiences, so if you want to get your hands on one... do yourself the biggest favor and enjoy it to the fullest.
