The digital event industry is shifting to a hybrid model next year with more focus on in-person experiences.
With the end of this year's Summer Game Fest, organizer and host Geoff Keighley announced that their next event will go head hunting in June 2023.
This year, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) president and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis announced that they are bringing back E3 as a physical and digital event next year. There is no specific date yet but it will be held in June 2023.
Summer Game Fest is an annual event that began in 2020, replacing E3 after the spread of coronavirus led to its cancellation. It followed Keighley dropping out as the host of the annual event.
The events ran side by side last year, but this summer, Keighley had free rein after the ESA's decision to cancel E3 again as an in-person and online event.
This year's Summer Game Fest highlighted almost 40 different video games, including new reveals like Flashback 2 and Goat Simulator 3. The Last Of Us Remake which is still a rumor, also had a surprise appearance during the event. Will E3 be able to recover, or will Keighley flood the zone with a plan to replace the sleeping giant?
I'm sure Geoff is thinking of profit, but there is plenty of love to go around as far as game events go. E3 can open the door for new announcers and a new lane as far as E3 goes. They have plenty of time to make it happen... if they're willing. - Blu
