The darkFlash V92 9.2-inch IPS Display falls into the second category—but thankfully, it isn't just decoration.

For $52.99 at the listing we're checking out, you're getting a slim ultrawide IPS display that can live inside or alongside your PC and show system information, animated artwork, videos, weather, news, stock information and more. And because this thing connects through USB rather than occupying an HDMI or DisplayPort connection, it can add another layer to your setup without taking a display output away from your actual monitors. So... Tech This Out (after this unboxing).

What Exactly Is the darkFlash V92?

Think of the V92 as a dedicated dashboard for your computer rather than another conventional desktop monitor.

The screen measures 9.2 inches, uses an IPS panel, runs at a sharp 1920 × 462 resolution, and has a 60Hz refresh rate. darkFlash also gives it an aluminum-alloy enclosure instead of wrapping the thing in plastic... because it conducts heat much better than plastic. If you're checking this out, you may have a desktop, and you know... that bad boy can kick out some heat. Doesn't make it the best choice for every product, but for this... it gets a thumbs up. Oh and before we continue, this product is laptop friendly.

darkFlash officially supports horizontal and vertical installation, and the included L-Bracket let builders work the panel into different case layouts rather than designing the entire computer around the screen.

And No... You Don't Need HDMI

No HDMI required? This is one of my favorite things about the V92.

A lot of little PC displays basically behaving like another monitor, meaning you're running another HDMI cable or sacrificing one of your GPU's display outputs.

The V92 can connect through USB-C or an internal motherboard USB 2.0 9-pin header, carrying the data it needs without HDMI or DisplayPort.

That also means cleaner cable management if you mount it inside the case. Just know what you're doing... so that you end up being that friend texting someone in a panic because you... did something.

Also, remember what you're buying! This is primarily a sensor/dashboard display, not a tiny replacement monitor where you're going to drag Windows applications around.

That's an important distinction for those who genuinely don't know. Does that make it pointless? Nope... it has its own uses that you can customize for your needs.

DF Space Is Where It Gets Interestingly Cool

Hardware monitoring screens aren't new. (Duh of the Day!)

What makes the V92 particularly appealing at this price is that you don't need to go buy AIDA64 Extreme just to make good use of it. So no $65.95 software license to worry about, once you buy it... its yours. I'm not taking shots... I'm just stating the facts here.

The accompanying software provides cool themes and customization while supporting things like system information, images, GIFs and MP4 video. Listings for the V92 also show support for widgets such as weather, news and stocks. There are plenty of free options... while others you will have to pay for. If you want to create your own, get creative.

So you could have:

CPU temperature.
GPU temperature.
CPU/GPU utilization.
RAM information.
Clock and date.
Weather.
A stock ticker.
Your logo.
An animated character.
A looping MP4.
Or just some ridiculous GIF that makes you laugh every time you look at your PC.

I'm not judging. It's your computer. That's the flex... instead of everybody with the same case having essentially the same RGB setup, the V92 gives you another surface that can actually represent you.

By the way, when it comes to the weather, you have to switch it over to "weatherapi" instead of "Qweather" if you're in the U.S. or your city will not be available. It's cool, but at the same time... this review is being done because I felt that it would something that could be useful as well.

For PC Gamers

If you've already put money into a showcase-worthy PC with a tempered-glass side panel, RGB fans, custom cables and a clean build... the V92 would set it off if you were looking for something to monitor your computers resources while adding another layer of awesome. Mounting the V92 where it's visible through your case gives you a useful digital centerpiece.

You could match it to your RGB theme, display artwork from your favorite game, your favorite cat, animate your PC-build name or keep CPU and GPU temperatures visible while you're gaming.

If your GPU temperature suddenly looks abnormal or your CPU utilization is sitting somewhere you don't expect, the information is right there without covering your game with another monitoring overlay.

For Content Creators

This is one of the professional uses that makes perfect sense. When I'm rendering video, encoding something, processing media or doing something else that puts a system under a heavy workload, I don't necessarily want another... monitoring window occupying valuable screen space.

The V92 can provide a quick glance at system activity while the main monitors remain dedicated to the actual project. It has helped me already, because... I'm the king of having 100s of tabs and various applications open.

Creators/Streamers can also load logos, animated graphics, GIFs or MP4s, so if your PC appears on camera during a video or livestream, the screen can become part of the studio presentation. That's useful and good branding. Represent!

For the Streamers: Don't confuse the V92 with a Stream Deck—it's a display, not a bank of programmable buttons.

For Day Traders (Useful... With an Asterisk)

This one actually does have some usefulness... because its software can display stock-related widgets, a trader could keep selected market information visible without giving up space on the primary trading monitors.

But let's be clear... I would not use a 9.2-inch PC sensor panel as a primary trading display.

Your actual charts, orders, news feeds and brokerage software belong on proper monitors. Think of the V92 as an at-a-glance ticker, not mission control. I'm mentioning this because... we speak with a number of you in Orlando, and this response to a visitor is worth the share.

I.T. Professionals and Workstations

There's potential here too, especially for someone running a powerful Windows workstation.

CPU and GPU temperatures, utilization and memory status can be useful when you're troubleshooting a machine, testing new hardware or watching how a system behaves under a sustained workload.

What I wouldn't do is describe the V92 as some magical enterprise network-monitoring display. It's primarily monitoring the Windows PC it's connected to.

That said, this is currently a Windows product. The V92 software support being advertised is for Windows 10 or above, not macOS or Linux. Third-party user feedback also indicates that its dedicated software needs to be running for its dashboard functionality. This isn't a stretch though, the software is free and there is no need to sign in before anything is displayed and customized. If you'd feel more comfy saving a copy of the software, do so... just incase.

So... Is It Worth $52.99?

For the right PC user? Absolutely.

You're getting a high-resolution 1920 × 462 IPS panel, a sturdy aluminum-alloy enclosure, flexible mounting, internal or external USB connectivity, system monitoring and a customization platform capable of displaying everything from performance information to animated media.

And that's ultimately why I wanted to feature it. The darkFlash V92 sits in that sweet spot between "I want my PC to look cooler" and "I'd actually like this upgrade to do something." For $52.99, that's a pretty fun upgrade.
