FBC: Firebreak – Inside the Paranatural Spin-Off of Control

If the Federal Bureau of Control rings a bell, it should. Originally introduced in Remedy Entertainment’s 2019 hit Control, this shadowy government agency investigates supernatural phenomena with a blend of science, mystery, and... complete dimensional chaos. But with FBC: Firebreak, players step away from the iconic halls of the Oldest House and into the Bureau’s frontline response teams—armed with telekinetic tools and a mission to neutralize unstable paranatural zones known as Rifts.

So... What Is FBC: Firebreak exactly

At its core, FBC: Firebreak is a 3-player cooperative PvE (Player vs Environment) shooter set in the same universe as Control. Rather than continuing the story of Jesse Faden, Firebreak puts players in the boots of Bureau response agents—teams tasked with sealing off dangerous anomalies threatening to warp reality itself. The salary for that job must truly be out of this world.

Each match sends squads into a procedurally shifting Rift zone, where objectives, enemies, and layouts vary each time. Combat involves Bureau-issued weapons, psychic abilities, and unpredictable environmental manipulation. It’s not a horror game, but definitely leans into eerie and surreal territory that fans of the original Control will instantly recognize.

Firebreak doesn’t require prior knowledge of Control to play, but it does live within the same narrative framework. References to the Oldest House, Altered World Events (AWEs), and other Bureau terminology all reappear. It feels like a slice of the larger world Remedy built—and while it’s set elsewhere, the tone and identity remain rooted in the Control universe. It's smart to use preexisting universes to add substance if it makes sense.

Game director Mike Kayatta described the project as a “spin-off in the noble sense of the word,” emphasizing that it’s not a direct sequel, but instead a way to explore other parts of the world fans already love. It’s a chance to experience the day-to-day chaos that normal Bureau agents face, outside the once-in-a-generation events of Control's main story.

The development team’s goal was to “translate the Bureau’s unknowable weirdness into team-based gameplay,” giving players a sense of working together in unpredictable situations where no two missions feel quite the same.

 Features

  • 3-player co-op PvE action, with matchmaking and quick-play options

  • Paranatural threats including anomalies, time distortions, and reality fractures

  • Agent loadouts and abilities that can be customized as players progress

  • Rift zones that change layout and objectives between sessions

  • Lore-rich documents and references tying back to Control’s universe

If Remedy has no problem digging further into the Control universe, you never know what we'll see next. In the mean time, Remedy can add to the fun factor with additional content as the life of their first FPS multiplayer game rolls on. They're working on updates, so stay tuned as they continue to make the game worth every penny. If the game grabs your attention, grab some friends, grab some controllers and game on!

Lara Croft Swaps Tombs for Tilt: Tomb Raider Pinball Hits... Pinball FX!

Summer of Gaming just got a little more adventurous, and a lot more... bouncy (or should I say ricochet'ish?) with the launch of the new Tomb Raider Pinball Pack in Pinball FX. Whether you’ve been flipping paddles for years or just dipping into the pinball world for the first time, this latest addition from Zen Studios is an easy win.

The best part? Pinball FX is totally free to download, and the Tomb Raider Pinball Pack clocks in at just $9.99... giving you access to two beautifully designed tables packed with action, nostalgia, and plenty of ways to chase high scores.

Here’s a quick look at... Pinball FX - Tomb Raider Pinball

What’s in the Pack?

  • Adventures of Lara Croft This is your high-octane, globe-trotting adventure table. Relive iconic moments from the Tomb Raider franchise as you blast through ancient ruins, fight enemies, and unlock mythical artifacts with precision shots and clever combo chains.

  • Secrets of Croft Manor A slower-paced but equally rich table where curiosity rewards the bold. Explore hidden chambers, uncover family secrets, and help Lara prepare for her next big expedition—all within the shadowy elegance of her ancestral home.

Each table is layered with unique goals, cinematic flourishes, and dynamic physics... true to Zen Studios’ signature style. The blend of pinball mechanics and franchise fanfare gets two thumbs up.

A Shoutout to the Pinball Warriors

We’ve shared a suggestion with Pinball FX’s community manager: Consider giving the high scorers more shine! These players put in real work on the paddles, and a public leaderboard spotlight or seasonal showcase could really elevate the competiton. Let's just say... they're considering it!

For newcomers, the fun doesn't stop here! The beautiful thing about Pinball FX, is that it's a gaming platform in... itself. Tomb Raider Pinball is the latest offering among dozens of themed tables in Zen Studios’ expanding collection... that includes Marvel, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and more. So whether you’re flipping for nostalgia, Lara’s legacy, or just craving that sweet clack of a perfectly timed save, Tomb Raider Pinball is an easy recommendation.

This game was a beast back in the day—gave me Doom and Serious Sam vibes without trying to copy either. With a $39.99 price tag, I’m hoping it absolutely delivers and then some. When you’re reviving a classic, you’ve gotta go all in to make it feel like more than just a nostalgia trip—the Tomb Raider reboots nailed that. Honestly, the next throwback that comes to mind is Duke Nukem, but I’m not sure he’d survive in today’s gaming climate without being a changed man.

Inside a Rebellion of Circuits & Steel: Robots at Midnight Hits Hard!

If your summer needs a fresh adventure, Robots at Midnight is one of those hidden indie gems you shouldn’t miss. This action RPG from Finish Line Games puts you in the sneakers of Zoe—an agile, tough, and curious hero—waking up on the ruined luxury planet of Yob. What used to be a high-tech paradise is now crawling with rogue robots, fragmented factions, and secrets waiting to be uncovered.

Catch our gameplay coverage right here... right now and see why this $19.99 adventure is a great pick for anyone craving sci-fi action with personality.

You’ll face off against corrupted AI gangs, spar with towering bosses, and bounce between lore-rich areas controlled by groups like the human-engineered Brass Thorn Coalition, the intense Chrome Ecclesiasts, and the mysterious Null Protocol. The combat? Fast, fluid, and fun to learn—with stylish momentum-based movement powered by Zoe’s space-gauntlet, The MITT.

Now, I’ve gotta say—those first moments on the ship? A little too dim and dreamlike for my taste. Even with the sun technically shining after the fact, it felt dull. Increasing the vibrancy once Zoe awakens, would really help the world and help the characters pop (brightness was increased to 0.75). Still, once you're out in the wild, it’s a whole different energy with a beautiful toonish artstyle!

Whether you're new to the genre or a seasoned dodge-roller, Robots at Midnight brings charm, challenge, and a whole lot of style to your summer playlist.
